AAI working on India’s first facial recognition-based passenger boarding system
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was working on the country’s first facial recognition technology-based biometric boarding system for passengers at Varanasi, Pune, Kolkata and Vijayawada airports. The proposed Digi Yatra central eco-system has been planned to go live in March 2022. Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said in an statement “This biometric boarding system is part of the first phase of Digi Yatra scheme’s implementation”.
Airbus Delivers Its 2,000th A320neo Family Aircraft to IndiGo
Indian carrier IndiGo last week took delivery of the 2,000th build A320neo Family aircraft. The aircraft an Airbus A321NEO msn 10654 was registered as VT-ILE. IndiGO CEO Ronojoy Dutta said “IndiGo was early to recognize the fuel efficiency and performance of the A320neo family, which resulted in large orders for neo family aircraft. The vision was not only to increase the efficiency, but also the sustainability of the fleet. IndiGo took delivery of the 1,000th A320neo Family aircraft produced in 2019 and just two years later is taking delivery of the 2,000th aircraft.”
Air Astana to Resume Flights Between Almaty and Delhi
Air Astana will resume flights between Almaty and Delhi from 16 December operating thrice weekly flights using Airbus A320 aircraft in a two-class configuration. The flights is timed enabling connections from Kyiv, Bishkek, Istanbul, Tbilisi and Baku.

Star Air wins the Highest average passenger load factor on RCS flights award by The Ministry of Civil Aviation
Star Air has been voted as the airline with the highest average passenger load factor on RCS flights by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Star Air had the highest Passenger Load Factor (PLF) among all Indian airlines in and the second-highest Passenger Load Factor (PLF) of 80.0% according to DGCA statistics.

395 routes operational now under RCS-UDAN scheme
India has till date operationalised 395 air routes under the Regional Connectivity Scheme ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’ or RCS-Udan. Under the scheme, which was launched in 2016, airlines are provided with a ‘Viability Gap Funding’ to keep fares affordable and accessible with the latest route between Delhi and Kushinagar commencing last week under RCS-UDAN.
