Air Canada To Launch New Service to Kauai, Double Frequency of Western Canada Flights to Hawaii With New Boeing 737 MAX Fleet
Air Canada announced 7 March it will be launching new service to Kauai with its new mainline Boeing 737 MAX-8 fleet this winter. The airline will also be doubling the frequency of its flights from Western Canada to Hawaii, and all flights from Western Canada to Honolulu, Maui and Kona, and other popular sun destinations will feature Air Canada’s new 737 MAX aircraft. All 737 MAX flights are now available for purchase via the Air Canada app, at aircanada.com and through travel agents.
American Airlines Applauds Brazilian Senate Ratification of Open Skies Agreement With United States
American Airlines welcomed the decision by the Brazilian Senate to ratify an Open Skies agreement with the United States. The U.S.-Brazil Open Skies agreement is a prerequisite for the U.S. Department of Transportation to approve American’s proposed Joint Business Agreement (JBA) with LATAM Airlines Group. American’s Chairman and CEO Doug Parker said “Open Skies agreements have proven to increase travel choices and enhance competition, resulting in greater benefits for consumers and positively impacting economic growth. American applauds the actions of the Brazilian Congress to approve this Open Skies agreement with the U.S., paving the way for the approval and implementation of our joint business with LATAM.”
American Airlines Names Janelle Anderson Vice President of Global Marketing
American Airlines announced 9 March that Janelle Anderson has been named vice president – Global Marketing. She will report to Kurt Stache, American’s senior vice president – Marketing, Loyalty and Sales. In this role, Anderson will lead American’s global marketing efforts, including the development and implementation of brand and marketing strategies across the entire travel journey.
Boeing Expands Pilot Development Program with Okay Airways
Boeing has expanded its commercial Pilot Development Program (PDP) with the addition of Okay Airways to its growing customer list. The airline joins recent customers Kunming Airlines and YTO Airlines. All three carriers are based in China. The comprehensive program includes ab-initio—pilot training from zero-flight-hour experience through advanced flight training—and is designed to develop cadets into 737 type-rated first officers.
Boeing, Hawaiian Airlines Announce Purchase of 10 787 Dreamliners
Boeing and Hawaiian Airlines announced 6 March that the carrier has selected the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as its flagship aircraft for medium to long-haul flights. As part of the selection, Hawaiian intends to purchase 10 787-9 jets valued at $2.82 billion at list prices. Hawaiian also has purchase rights for 10 additional 787s.

Hawaiian Airlines selected the GEnx-1B engine to power its intended purchase of 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The engine order will be valued at more than $520 million (USD) list price.
LORD Corporation Wins Biggest Contract In Company’s 94-year Histor
LORD Corporation will develop and manufacture the auto throttle module for Boeing’s 737 MAX. The cockpit control will be designed and produced at LORD Electromechanical Solutions (formerly Fly-by-Wire France) facilities in Saint-Vallier, France and in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, USA. The development of the cockpit control systems will take place over the next few years with production beginning in 2020.
SpiceJet, CFM sign $12.5 billion engine/services deal
SpiceJet and CFM International announced 10 March a $12.5 billion U.S. agreement that finalizes the purchase of LEAP-1B engines to power a total of 155 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes, along with spare engines to support the fleet. The airline also signed a 10-year Rate per Flight Hour (RPFH) agreement with CFM Services that covers all LEAP-1B engines powering SpiceJet’s 737 MAX airplanes. RPFH agreements are part of CFM’s portfolio of flexible aftermarket support offerings. Under the terms of the agreement, CFM guarantees maintenance costs for all SpiceJet’s LEAP-1B engines on a pay -by-the-hour basis.
Spirit AeroSystems Celebrates 10,000 737 Deliveries to Boeing
Spirit AeroSystems Inc 9 march celebrated the 10,000th shipset delivery on the Boeing 737 program. The 10,000th shipset was delivered to Boeing in February. Spirit has design and build responsibility for approximately 70 percent of the 737 structure, including the entire fuselage, along with propulsion and wing work packages.
StandardAero Component Services Announces Plans for 260,000 Square Feet Expansion at Three Primary U.S. Facilities
StandardAero Component Services has announced a significant investment and expansion at three of the company’s U.S. sites during 2018 and will increase shop capacity by a total of 260,000 square feet (sq. ft.) collectively, with expansion of facilities in Cincinnati & Hillsboro, Ohio, and Miami, Florida locations. The total investment to fund the expansions exceeds $16 million in construction and capital equipment.
