airBaltic Recommences Dublin-Riga Route
airBaltic has recommenced its direct Dublin to Riga service for the summer season, with the first flight departing on 3 June operated by Airbus A220-300 YL-ABG, MSN 55154. The twice-weekly service operates on Wednesdays and Sundays until 30 August, with an additional Friday frequency added during August to support peak summer demand. The route strengthens Dublin’s connectivity to Eastern Europe, while airBaltic’s onboard Skynet platform, powered by Starlink connectivity, supports an enhanced passenger experience on the sector.
EI-HXH Airbus A321LR Delivered To ITA Airways
ITA Airways has taken delivery of Airbus A321-271NXLR EI-HXH, c/n 12949, which was handed over at Hamburg-Finkenwerder and ferried to Rome Fiumicino on 12 May 2026 as flight AZA8021. The aircraft entered commercial service on 15 May, operating the Rome Fiumicino-Brussels rotation as AZA156/159. Configured with 165 seats across Business, Premium Economy and Economy, the aircraft supports ITA Airways’ medium-haul network strategy with improved range, cabin flexibility and narrowbody operating efficiency.
Ireland West Airport Aims For French Connectivity
Ireland West Airport welcomed French Ambassador to Ireland Céline P. Place as part of her official visit to the West and Northwest of Ireland. The airport outlined the demand for services between the West of Ireland and France, noting that more than 50 percent of French visitors to Ireland travel to the West and Northwest. Securing direct French access would support regional tourism, improve inbound connectivity and strengthen Ireland West Airport’s role in linking the west of Ireland with key European markets.

Iberia Strengthens Engine Maintenance Strategy With CFM LEAP Licence
Iberia, together with International Airlines Group, has reached an agreement with CFM International to obtain a CFM LEAP Premier MRO licence covering LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines. Under the agreement, Iberia’s engine shop in La Muñoza, located next to Madrid-Barajas Airport, will be positioned as a strategic LEAP maintenance, repair and overhaul hub in Europe. The first LEAP engine inductions are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
Jetex and iGA Istanbul Airport Unveil World’s Largest VIP Terminal
Jetex and iGA Istanbul Airport have inaugurated the Jetex iGA Terminal, described as the world’s largest VIP terminal. The strategic investment strengthens Istanbul’s position in the international aviation ecosystem and reinforces Türkiye’s standing for global investors. The opening ceremony was attended by Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, iGA leadership, Jetex Founder and CEO Adel Mardini, aviation industry representatives and members of the press.
Lufthansa Group Revamps Climate Projects Portfolio
Lufthansa Group has announced an expanded portfolio of climate protection projects, including support for new direct air carbon capture and storage technologies. The group, which includes Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, ITA Airways and Swiss, said passengers can contribute to CO2 savings through its 14 climate protection projects.
Menzies Aviation Hits 25 Percent Electric GSE Target
Menzies Aviation has achieved its global target of 25 percent electric ground support equipment, supported by a USD 200 million investment in modernising its vehicle fleet. The company added more than 620 electric GSE assets in 2025, increasing the global share of electric GSE from 22 percent in 2024 to 25 percent by year end. Menzies said 11 locations now operate fleets with more than 70 percent electric GSE, while more than 20 locations exceed 50 percent.
MJets Reevaluates Freighter Fleet Diversification
Malaysia-based MJets Air has removed a Boeing 737-800 freighter from its fleet as it diversifies and reassesses its widebody strategy. MJets’ parent, MMAG Holdings, agreed with lessor Genesis on 23 April to cancel the purchase of a 2005-vintage Boeing 737-800BCF, MSN 29670, formerly operated by SpiceJet, and return the freighter off lease to Genesis.
Modern Aviation Breaks Ground at Meacham International
Modern Aviation has broken ground on a new hangar complex at its Fort Worth location at Meacham International Airport. The project will include two hangars on parcel 14C, totalling approximately 87,150 square feet of combined hangar and office space. Each 39,200-square-foot hangar will include a 4,375-square-foot attached office and is designed to accommodate the largest business jets available today. The project is targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2027.

National Airlines has taken delivery of its second Boeing 777 Freighter, N792CA, from Boeing’s production facility in Everett, Seattle. The aircraft will support National Airlines’ customised global charter cargo solutions for customers and industries worldwide.

The Netherlands-based trading and leasing specialist for narrowbody aircraft parts, engines and landing gear will add used serviceable material from recent A320 Family teardowns to its inventory at its facility close to Schiphol Airport.

Norse Atlantic Airways has appointed Frans Leenaars as Chief Commercial Officer, effective immediately. Leenaars joins the airline with more than two decades of international leadership experience across aviation, travel and customer-focused businesses. He has held senior commercial roles within Air France-KLM and Disney Parks & Resorts, along with executive leadership positions at TUI Group.

Dublin Airport Passenger Numbers Up Almost 3 Percent in May
Almost 3.5 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in May, up 2.7 percent on the same month last year. The airport recorded more than 100,000 passengers on 28 of the 31 days, with more than 120,000 passengers travelling through on at least eight days. During the first five months of 2026, 14.3 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport, up 7 percent year-on-year. Travel between Dublin and North America was 13 percent higher in May compared with the same period last year.
Irish Air Corps Learjet 45 Withdrawn From Service
The Irish Air Corps’ sole Learjet 45, serial 258, has been officially withdrawn from the Air Corps fleet after more than two decades in service. Delivered in December 2003 and entering service in early 2004, the aircraft formed a core part of the Ministerial Air Transport Service fleet. It operated alongside the Gulfstream IV, serial 251, which remained in service until 2014.
Irish Leasing Industry Backs Credits System to Boost SAF Adoption
Aircraft Leasing Ireland has announced its support for the expedited development of book-and-claim accounting under voluntary reporting and compliance frameworks. The proposal was made at ALI’s third Global Aviation Sustainability Day Conference in Dublin. The group said the move would enhance access to Sustainable Aviation Fuel, which is a key part of the global aviation industry’s strategy to meet carbon emissions reduction goals.

NI Travel Trade Representatives to Attend Westminster Event
Northern Ireland’s travel trade industry is seeking government support and recognition as representatives travel to the House of Commons this month. ANITA co-chair Damian Murphy and Sharon Thompson will attend the UK Outbound Group’s inaugural Westminster reception on 16 June. Sharon Thompson has also been liaising with Carla Lockhart MP, with previous correspondence sent to Dr Caoimhe Archibald MLA and Hilary Benn MP to generate support for the industry.
