ASL Aviation Holdings Boosts ASL Airlines, Australia Fleet
Dublin-based ASL Aviation Holdings will add four Boeing 737-800BCF aircraft to the ASL Airlines Australia fleet, expanding its operational capability across Australia and New Zealand. Some aircraft will transfer from ASL’s existing European fleet to the Australian AOC, with the first expected to arrive in Australia soon. The additional freighters will strengthen ASL’s existing network and provide further capacity for regional growth.
EirTrade Aviation Announces Acquisition of A330 Airframe
EirTrade Aviation has acquired an Airbus A330 airframe previously operated by Air Transat. The aircraft will be inducted for immediate disassembly at the company’s facility at Ireland West Airport Knock. EirTrade recently also secured new authorisations from Guernsey, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda for operations, transitions, parking and storage at the Knock facility.
Air Transat Operates One-Time Toronto–Dublin A321ceo Service
Air Transat operated a one-time Airbus A321ceo on its Toronto–Dublin service on 14 August in place of the scheduled Airbus A321LR. Airbus A321-211 C-GEZJ, MSN 4148, operated TSC230/231, arriving in Dublin at 1:46 PM and departing at 4:06 PM. The eastbound sector routed via Goose Bay, while the westbound sector operated via Keflavik.
United Deploys Boeing 777-300ER on Newark–Dublin to Meet Demand
United Airlines has deployed its four-class, 350-seat Boeing 777-300ER on one of its two daily Newark–Dublin services, replacing the 276-seat Boeing 777-200ER. The substitution adds 74 seats per sector, representing a 27 per cent capacity increase. Boeing 777-300ERs N2639U, MSN 62650, and N2332U, MSN 62643, operated the service on 25 July and 15 August, respectively.

Qantas Brings Forward Airbus A380 Replacement Plans
Qantas has brought forward the replacement of its Airbus A380 fleet by three to four years and is in discussions with Airbus and Boeing over exercising additional widebody options. Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said during the airline’s annual earnings media briefing that the A380 replacement process is now expected to begin in mid-2028. Qantas had previously indicated that A380 retirement would begin in fiscal 2032, which starts in mid-2031.
Engine MRO Uncertainty Tightens Spare-Engine and Material Markets
Uncertainty around engine removals, shop turnaround times and repair costs is adding complexity to maintenance planning across the aftermarket. Airlines and MRO providers are responding by building greater flexibility into their engine maintenance strategies. StarFlyer to Lease LEAP-1A26 Spare Engine from Engine Lease Finance
StarFlyer has approved a 10-year lease for one LEAP-1A26 spare engine from Engine Lease Finance Corporation, with the lease scheduled to begin in December 2027. The Japanese airline expects total lease payments of approximately 3.3 billion yen over the planned 10-year term.
Werner Aero Acquires Second Airbus A320-200 for Teardown
Werner Aero has acquired Airbus A320-200 MSN 2964, which is currently at eCube’s facility in St Athan, Wales, where it will be dismantled for spare parts. The acquisition is Werner Aero’s second A320-200 purchase in August, expanding its A320-family portfolio. The additional aircraft will support the company’s supply of components and aftermarket solutions to airlines, lessors, MRO providers and other aviation customers.
Britten-Norman Begins Ground Testing of First New UK-Built Islander
Britten-Norman’s latest Islander has entered its ground test programme ahead of a planned first flight in September. The aircraft was rolled out at the company’s Isle of Wight facility on 30 July and will undergo flight testing before being prepared for delivery to the Falkland Islands Government Air Service. The company is also opening its production line to customers and media ahead of the aircraft’s formal launch later this year.
FlightSafety International to Acquire Acron Technologies’ Commercial Training Solutions Business
FlightSafety International has signed a definitive agreement with Acron Technologies to acquire its Commercial Training Solutions business. The acquisition includes CTS’s Training Systems, Training Services, Aviation Academy and Driver Training operations, expanding FlightSafety’s commercial aviation training capabilities and complementing its simulator manufacturing and global training network.
LATAM Cargo Integrates IATA DG AutoCheck
LATAM Cargo has become the first airline in the Americas to integrate IATA DG AutoCheck into its dangerous goods handling process. The system validates Shipper’s Declarations for Dangerous Goods in real time, flags discrepancies and guides acceptance agents through a standardised physical inspection checklist. The integration also supports automated preparation of the Notification to Captain, improving digital traceability and helping streamline cargo acceptance procedures.

Ryanair Links Spanish Capacity Reductions to Airport Charges
Ryanair has said its planned capacity reductions in Spain are related to airport fees and taxes rather than Boeing 737 MAX delivery delays. The airline expects to operate a larger fleet and carry more passengers in summer 2026 than in 2025. Ryanair has also said future aircraft allocation to Spain could be considered if airport charges are reduced.
Aer Lingus Restructuring Talks Face Delay over Employee Representation
Aer Lingus is planning a restructuring that could affect up to 500 roles, including 290 head office positions, 140 cabin crew roles and 70 pilot positions. Discussions have been delayed amid disagreement over the involvement of the IAG European Works Council in the consultation process. The airline reported a 34 million euro loss for the first half of 2026, while parent company IAG has linked future investment to Aer Lingus achieving a profit margin of between 12 per cent and 15 per cent.
Gatwick Reports Lower First-Half Profit Amid Weaker Passenger Demand
Gatwick Airport reported pre-tax profit of 136.5 million pounds for the six months to 30 June, an 18 percent decline from a year earlier. Passenger numbers fell 4.7 percent to 19.1 million, while long-haul traffic declined 9.2 percent. Revenue increased 4.8 percent to 515.2 million pounds, while costs rose 5 percent. The airport has also received clearance for its 2.2 billion pound second-runway expansion, while 82 employees left through voluntary redundancy.
World Aviation Festival Opens Ancillary Revenue Pitch Competition
The World Aviation Festival has opened entries for its Ancillary Arena competition, with a live final scheduled for 15 October 2026 in Lisbon. Five shortlisted innovators will present concepts covering airline retail, loyalty, new revenue opportunities or passenger service improvements to a panel of senior airline commercial leaders. The winner will receive a complimentary 6 sq m exhibition stand at the 2027 festival.
Air Travel Accounts for 34 Per Cent of ECCI Caseload in 2025
Air travel made up 34 percent, roughly one in three, of the 4,182 cases handled by ECCI in 2025. The centre recovered 421,000 euros for consumers, including 102,729 euros for Irish consumers. Businesses in England generated the most cases, followed by those in the Netherlands and Germany, with flight cancellations, baggage disputes and overbooking among the main issues. ECCI requires cases to involve a cross-border element and consumers to have contacted the airline before it intervenes.
United Selects Dublin for First International Airbus A321XLR Services
United Airlines has selected Dublin and Amsterdam for its first international Airbus A321XLR operations, with the Dublin–Washington Dulles service scheduled to begin on 2 December 2026. The aircraft will feature United Polaris suites, Economy Plus seating, Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members and upgraded in-flight entertainment. The deployment forms part of United’s wider international expansion, which includes 10 new destinations.
EasyJet Takeover Scheme Document Deadline Extended to 15 October
The deadline for easyJet’s takeover scheme document has been extended to 15 October 2026, allowing additional time for discussions with aviation regulators over EU ownership requirements. Apollo Global Management is acquiring easyJet through Eagle Bidco Ltd in a deal valued at 5.7 billion pounds, with an offer of 715 pence per share. The transaction remains expected to complete by the end of the first quarter of 2027, while daily flight operations remain unchanged.
EU EES Biometric Check Flexibility to End on 6 September 2026
The temporary option to pause EES biometric checks will expire on 6 September 2026, with Frontex confirming it will not be renewed despite requests from airlines, airports and nine EU countries. Border authorities will no longer be able to bypass biometric scanning during severe queues, raising concerns over longer passport-control times at major Schengen hubs. Ryanair has raised concerns over border-checkpoint efficiency, while some flight departures have already been affected by passenger delays.

Shannon Airport Ambassador Kathryn Thomas has filmed a new social media travel series, The Best Place to Fly From with Kathryn Thomas, which will launch this Friday across the airport’s channels. Ryanair has identified Athens, Trapani and Podgorica as its three most popular destinations among Belgian passengers during summer 2026. Athens is served from both Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi Airport, while Trapani and Podgorica are operated from Charleroi. The destinations reflect a mix of city-break, leisure and regional tourism demand across the airline’s Belgian network.
