China Eastern Launches Direct Dublin–Shanghai Route
China Eastern Airlines has launched a new three-times-weekly non-stop service between Dublin and Shanghai, giving Ireland its first direct connection to the Chinese city. The route is operated with Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with inaugural flight MU231 arriving in Dublin shortly after 07:30 before outbound service MU232 departed for Shanghai at around 11:30.
Ryanair Focuses on CEE Expansion for Winter 2026/27
Ryanair is increasing its focus on Central and Eastern Europe for Winter 2026/27, with additional capacity planned across Slovakia and Poland. The shift follows the airline’s decision to close its seven-aircraft base in Berlin and three-aircraft base in Thessaloniki, while expanding fleet deployment and network activity across key CEE markets.
TUI Announces New Cork–Palma Route for Summer 2027
TUI will launch a new weekly service between Cork Airport and Palma for Summer 2027, operating every Tuesday from 18 May to 31 August. The route will use 189-seat Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and will support TUI’s Marella Cruises offering for Irish holidaymakers. The service will provide travellers from the South of Ireland with direct access to Palma, a key Mediterranean homeport for Marella Cruises.

Abra Group Agrees to Acquire Up to 45 Embraer E195-E2 Aircraft
Abra Group has signed an agreement with Embraer for up to 45 E195-E2 aircraft as part of its long-term fleet growth and regional connectivity strategy across Latin America. The agreement includes 20 firm orders, 10 purchase options and 15 purchase rights. Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027, with the order to be added to Embraer’s backlog once all conditions are satisfied.
AIP Capital to Acquire 11 CFM LEAP-1B Spare Engines
AIP Capital and Bridgepoint Group have agreed to acquire 11 CFM International LEAP-1B spare engines to support Boeing 737 MAX family operators. The engines are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2029 and will expand the partners’ spare engine leasing portfolio for airlines, maintenance providers and other operators requiring additional engine capacity. The latest purchase follows their acquisition of 10 LEAP-1B spare engines in 2024.
Airbus Launches New Flight-Test Programme for Wing of Tomorrow
Airbus has launched a new flight-test campaign at the Farnborough International Airshow to evaluate high-span wings for next-generation single-aisle aircraft under its Wing of Tomorrow research and technology programme. Over the next three years, Airbus will design, build and flight-test full-scale wing extensions on an A321neo. The programme will assess how different wing geometries perform under real flight conditions and support the development of future single-aisle aircraft.
Air Elite Adds Two Australian FBO Locations
Air Elite, the World Fuel-sponsored global network of upscale FBOs, has expanded its Australian footprint with the addition of two service providers. One of the new locations is Machjet International at Sunshine Coast Airport near Brisbane, which offers dedicated VIP and crew lounges, direct ramp access and hangar space capable of accommodating bizliner-class aircraft.
AJW-ME Completes Third Airbus A320neo Disassembly
AJ Walter Aviation Middle East has completed its third Airbus A320neo disassembly, expanding its inventory of serviceable components for airline and MRO customers worldwide. The teardown has added a range of high-value assets, including engines, landing gear, auxiliary power units and airframe components. AJW-ME said the additional stock will support faster customer response and improve component availability for operators.
Akasa Air Reaches 40th Boeing 737 MAX Delivery Milestone
Akasa Air has taken delivery of its 40th Boeing 737 MAX, marking another milestone in the rapid expansion of India’s youngest major airline. The Mumbai-based carrier launched operations in August 2022 and still has nearly 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on order, supporting its long-term growth plans. Akasa currently operates 23 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with configurations ranging from 186 to 189 seats in single-class layouts, while two aircraft feature Business and Economy cabins.
BermudAir Orders 10 Airbus A220-300 Aircraft
BermudAir, through affiliate Odyssey, has ordered 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, becoming a new Airbus customer as it expands its fleet and network. The aircraft will be configured with 135 seats in a three-class layout and will support new nonstop routes across Bermuda, the Caribbean and North America. The order was originally recorded by Airbus in March under an undisclosed customer before being revealed at the Farnborough International Airshow.
Airbus Advances Next Design Evolutions Across A320 Family
Airbus is progressing the next phase of improvements across the A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR under its STEP4 development package. The initiative builds on the continuous evolution of the A320 Family, following the A321XLR’s entry into service in late 2024 with Iberia. STEP, or Synchronized Targeted Embodiment Point, is focused on incremental design and production improvements aimed at enhancing producibility and keeping the single-aisle family competitive beyond 2030.
Boeing Reports Certification Progress on 737 MAX Models and 777-9
Boeing says certification work on the 737 MAX models and 777-9 is approaching key milestones following years of flight testing, analysis and regulatory engagement. The 737-7 is the furthest advanced, with certification deliverables 95 per cent complete and flight testing finished after 686 flight-test hours across 441 flights, alongside 349 hours of ground testing. The remaining work includes final submissions to the FAA, technical approvals and certification of the engine anti-ice solution.
Dubai Airports CEO Sees Long-Term Middle East Aviation Growth Continuing
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths says the long-term outlook for aviation growth in the Middle East remains strong despite recent operational disruption across the region. Speaking at the Farnborough Airshow, he said short-term challenges have not altered the broader trajectory of passenger demand. Griffiths added that Dubai’s long-term aviation expansion remains firmly on track, supported by continued investment in capacity and connectivity.
Emirates Introduces A350 on Taipei–Dubai Route
Emirates has introduced its Airbus A350 on the Taipei–Dubai route, bringing Premium Economy to Taiwan for the first time. From 1 July, the A350 operates daily as EK386/EK387 alongside the airline’s existing daily A380 service. The aircraft is configured with 298 seats across Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class, and features Emirates’ latest cabin interiors, upgraded inflight entertainment and enhanced onboard connectivity.
Turkish Airlines Invests in Sustainable Aviation Fuel Fund
Turkish Airlines has joined SAFFA Fund I, LP, managed by Burnham Sterling Asset Management, to support the production and adoption of sustainable aviation fuel. The fund invests in commercially mature SAF projects across different technologies and regions, with Airbus serving as the anchor investor. The investment supports Turkish Airlines’ sustainability strategy by strengthening access to SAF, improving supply chain security and providing exposure to emerging production technologies and feedstock development.
United Airlines CEO Says Brand Loyalty Strategy Is Driving Growth
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby says the carrier’s focus on brand loyalty is supporting stronger financial performance and resilience during periods of higher fuel costs. The airline reported second-quarter operating revenue of US$17.7 billion, up 16 per cent year on year, with revenue recovering around half of the increase in fuel prices during the period. United plans to continue investing across the customer experience as it builds on recent market share gains and strengthens customer retention.

AerCap Selects GEnx Engines for 15 Additional Boeing 787s
AerCap has selected GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines to power its latest order for 15 Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The agreement increases AerCap’s portfolio to approximately 200 GEnx engines owned or on order, while further strengthening its position as the world’s largest owner of Boeing 787 aircraft. GE Aerospace said the GEnx-1B has accumulated more than 50 million flight hours and delivers a 99.98 per cent dispatch reliability rate.
Aer Lingus Responds as US Maintains Dublin Airport Passenger Cap Action Threat
Aer Lingus has criticised Airlines for America after the US Department of Transportation decided to keep open the possibility of action over the Dublin Airport passenger cap, extending its deadline to 20 September. The airline argued that no US carrier has lost slots, been required to reduce traffic at Dublin or otherwise been harmed by the cap. Aer Lingus also noted that new Irish legislation has been signed into law to pave the way for removal of the passenger constraint.
Cork Scrapyard Owner Restores Rare Percival Pembroke Aircraft
A rare Percival Pembroke aircraft, XL954, is being restored in Cork by Eddie O’Sullivan of Cork Metal Company after arriving as a dismantled airframe. Built in the 1950s, the British-designed aircraft was developed for military communications and reconnaissance duties and served with the Royal Air Force and several European air arms. The restoration is giving the historic aircraft a new lease of life as a preserved piece of aviation history.
Dublin Airport (Passenger Capacity) Act 2026 Enacted
The Dublin Airport (Passenger Capacity) Act 2026 has been signed into law, giving the Minister for Transport powers to address the airport’s 32 million passenger cap. The legislation also protects daa’s live Infrastructure Application, which seeks permission for increased passenger capacity alongside projects including new piers, aircraft stands and an Integrated Transport Hub. The measures are intended to support Ireland’s hub strategy and enable future growth in passenger and cargo traffic.
Galway Approves Permanent Future for Key Air Ambulance Helipad
Galway City Council has approved the sale of a 3.69-acre site at Shantalla to the HSE, securing the long-term future of the helicopter landing facility serving University Hospital Galway. The site handles more than 200 medical helicopter landings each year and supports emergency transfers from across western Ireland. The decision follows years of discussion over the site’s future, although local residents and campaign groups have raised concerns about the loss of community green space and potential future use of the land.
Ireland Accounts for 65 Per cent of Firm Orders at Farnborough Airshow
Irish aviation companies accounted for around 65 per cent of the 327 firm aircraft orders recorded at the Farnborough Airshow, led by SMBC Aviation Capital’s 200-aircraft purchase and AerCap’s order for 15 Boeing 787-9s. SMBC’s deal alone represented more than 60 per cent of the show’s firm orders. Other announcements included orders from flynas, BermudAir and Abra Group, alongside Vietnam Airlines’ agreement to lease 19 Boeing 737-8s from SMBC, Avolon and Phoenix Aviation Capital.
Ireland–US Travel Falls 10.1 Per cent in June
Irish visitor numbers to the United States reached 37,479 in June 2026, down 10.1 per cent from June 2025. The rolling annual total stood at 473,800, down 3.9 per cent compared with the previous 12-month period. In June, 4.4 million non-US citizen air passengers arrived in the United States from overseas, representing a 0.2 per cent year-on-year increase.
Jackson Square Aviation Begins 20-Aircraft Sale-and-Leaseback Programme with IndiGo
Jackson Square Aviation has delivered the first Airbus A320neo to IndiGo under a 20-aircraft sale-and-leaseback agreement, with deliveries scheduled to continue through 2028. The transaction expands the long-standing relationship between JSA and IndiGo while supporting the airline’s domestic and international fleet growth. The agreement covers 20 new-generation A320neo aircraft, offering additional capacity alongside improved fuel efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions.
Ryanair Eyes Further Sarajevo Expansion
Sarajevo Airport says it is preparing a joint announcement with Ryanair covering future cooperation and planned additions to the route network. Ryanair has operated at Sarajevo since March 2024, with the partnership contributing to passenger growth and improved connectivity between Bosnia and Herzegovina and European markets. The airport said final arrangements are being coordinated ahead of further details for upcoming seasons.
SMBC Aviation Capital Places Landmark 200-Aircraft Orders with Airbus and Boeing
SMBC Aviation Capital has placed firm orders for 200 latest-generation narrowbody aircraft, comprising 100 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft and 100 Boeing 737 MAX jets. The Airbus order includes 65 A321neos and 35 A320neos, while the Boeing agreement covers 60 737 MAX 10s and 40 737 MAX 8s. The lessor has also agreed to acquire up to 90 additional CFM LEAP-1A engines, supporting a delivery pipeline of new-generation aircraft through to the mid-2030s.
