Eight Airlines Remove 17 Airbus A380 Routes From Winter Schedule

Eight Airbus A380 operators have removed a combined 17 nonstop routes from their winter schedules compared with winter 2025/26, according to Cirium data cited in the report. The reductions reflect the particular operating requirements of the A380, which is best suited to routes with sufficient demand to support its high capacity. The type is more sensitive to changes in traffic levels than smaller aircraft. The report also notes that demand fluctuations, geopolitical tensions and airspace closures in the Middle East have contributed to changes in A380 deployment this winter.

New Chief Executive Steven Greenway said the Embraer E190 remains suitable for the airline’s current requirements, but larger aircraft could be evaluated if customer demand supports the move. He said some clients have shown interest in potential Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 operations. No immediate fleet change is planned, with the option remaining under consideration for the future.

ITA Airways Chief Executive Joerg Eberhart said the partnership will assess how electric air taxis could complement the airline’s network and improve connections between airports, city centres and other strategic destinations.

Amsterdam Schiphol Flight Cap Set at 478,000 Annual Movements

A new Airport Traffic Decree has set Amsterdam Schiphol Airport’s annual capacity at 478,000 flight movements. The legislation, introduced after more than a decade of debate, is intended to provide greater clarity around the airport’s long-term operating limits while also addressing protections for local residents. Work on the legislation began in 2022. It follows several years in which different movement caps, court rulings, appeals and competing views from environmental and aviation stakeholders created uncertainty around Schiphol’s permitted capacity.

IATA Forecasts Up to 214.8 Million Tonnes of CORSIA Offsetting Demand

IATA Economics expects the first phase of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), covering 2024 to 2026, to generate offsetting demand of between 169.5 million and 214.8 million tonnes of CO2. IATA said estimates for the 2026 Sector’s Growth Factor are moderately lower than those for 2025, reflecting changes in air traffic demand and a higher emissions baseline following the addition of Dominica and Vietnam as voluntary participants. The association also highlighted a significant supply gap, with around 43 million tagged CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units currently available against projected demand of approximately 200 million.

Ryanair H1 Profit After Tax Falls 15 Per Cent to 2.15 Billion Euros

Ryanair reported first-half profit after tax of 2.15 billion euros, down 15 per cent, despite higher passenger traffic and overall revenue growth. Passenger numbers increased by 6 per cent, while average fares were lower and rising fuel costs put pressure on earnings. Operating costs also increased as the price of unhedged jet fuel doubled. Ryanair has already hedged most of its FY27 fuel requirements and part of FY28 to provide greater cost certainty. The airline continues to expand, with 126 new routes and a new Rimini base on sale, and also repaid its final 1.2 billion euro bond in May.
