China Eastern Launches Direct Dublin–Shanghai Service
China Eastern Airlines has commenced a new three-times-weekly non-stop service between Dublin and Shanghai, giving Ireland its first direct connection to China’s largest city. The route is operated by Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with the inaugural inbound flight CES/MU231 flown by B-32FQ, an Airbus A350-941, msn 624. The new service strengthens direct connectivity between Ireland and one of Asia’s leading economic and cultural centres.
TUI Adds Cork–Palma Service for Summer 2027
TUI will operate a new weekly service from Cork Airport to Palma Airport every Tuesday from 18 May to 31 August 2027. The route will use 189-seat Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and will support TUI’s Marella Cruises offering for Irish holidaymakers. The service will provide travellers from the South of Ireland with access to Mediterranean cruise itineraries departing from Palma.
Dublin Aerospace Receives Former Spirit Airlines Airbus A320neo
Dublin Aerospace has welcomed a former Spirit Airlines Airbus A320neo to its Dublin hangar for base maintenance. The work will prepare the aircraft for its next operator, supporting its transition into service with another airline.

Cathay Pacific Posts Strongest First-Half Profit Since 2010
Cathay Pacific Airways reported its strongest first-half profit since 2010, supported by increased passenger and cargo demand. The Hong Kong carrier remains cautiously optimistic about the outlook for the remainder of the year. However, it warned that higher jet fuel prices resulting from the Middle East conflict are likely to persist.
Colombia Orders Two Embraer KC-390 Millennium Transport Aircraft
Colombia has signed a contract to purchase two Embraer KC-390 Millennium aircraft. The agreement was announced by Brazilian manufacturer Embraer on 4 August. The acquisition forms part of outgoing President Gustavo Petro’s effort to modernise Colombia’s military fleet.
Air India Appoints Tewolde Gebremariam as Chief Executive
Former Ethiopian Airlines chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam has been appointed as the new chief executive of Air India following a comprehensive leadership search. Air India announced on 5 August 2025 that Gebremariam’s track record at Ethiopian Airlines made him uniquely suited to the position.
FAA Awards US$870 Million for Airport-Infrastructure Projects
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded US$870 million for airport-infrastructure projects across the United States. The funding covers 339 grants across airports in 44 states and two United States territories. Projects include a new access road at Los Angeles International Airport and terminal repairs at Miami International Airport.
Suspected Explosive Drone Incident Disrupts Leipzig/Halle Airport Operations
Leipzig/Halle Airport partially suspended flight operations overnight between 4 and 5 August 2026. Police responded to reports of an unidentified flying object and a suspicious item discovered near the airport’s south runway. The Leipzig police directorate confirmed the response in a statement.
Eve Demonstrator Completes Partial Transition Flight
Eve Air Mobility has completed what it described as the first partial transition flight of its full-scale engineering prototype. The test marks the beginning of a campaign intended to achieve a full-speed forward transition by the end of 2026. The flights will help determine the final configuration of a conforming prototype for the four-passenger Eve 100, with a design freeze planned by year-end and assembly and flight targeted for the second half of 2027.
UrbanV and Brazilian Partners Plan Five São Paulo Vertiports
UrbanV has formed an alliance with Brazilian partners to develop an initial network of five vertiports supporting future eVTOL air-taxi services in the São Paulo area. The Italian advanced air mobility infrastructure company announced the agreement with PAX Aeroportos, Helicenter/Ponte Aérea and GL Events at the LABACE business aviation show. The event was held at São Paulo Campo de Marte Airport.
Technology Shipments Lift Asia-Pacific Air-Cargo Volumes
Asia-Pacific air-cargo demand, measured in freight tonne kilometres, increased by 3.2 percent year on year in June. Capacity rose by 0.2 percent, lifting the average international freight load factor by 1.8 percentage points to 62.6 percent. The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines attributed the increase partly to AI-related semiconductor shipments, following higher technology shipments and stockpiling activity in May.
Atlas Air Worldwide Completes Investment in Air Atlanta
Atlas Air Worldwide has completed its investment in Air Atlanta following the announcement of the transaction in May. Atlas subsidiary Titan Aviation Holdings will separately acquire aircraft owned by the Air Atlanta group and lease them back to the airline companies for continued operation. Headquartered in Iceland with operating platforms in Iceland and Malta, Air Atlanta provides CMI, passenger and cargo charter, management and ACMI leasing services.
Air France Launches Guadeloupe–Panama City Service
Air France will launch a new nonstop service between Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and Panama City from 11 December 2026. The seasonal route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays until 5 March 2027, using a 170-seat Airbus A320 configured with Business and Economy Class. Return services from Panama City will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays as part of Air France’s Caribbean regional network.
Riyadh Air Launches Daily Riyadh–Mumbai Services
Riyadh Air has launched daily nonstop flights between Riyadh and Mumbai, making Mumbai its eighth destination within eight weeks of beginning operations on 10 June 2026. Inaugural flight RX0697 arrived in Mumbai on 4 August. The Boeing 787-9 service connects King Khalid International Airport with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Volaris Carries 3.3 Million Passengers in July
Volaris transported 3.3 million passengers in July 2026 as demand remained strong during the peak summer travel period. Capacity, measured in available seat miles, increased by 14.4 percent year on year, while traffic, measured in revenue passenger miles, rose by 18.5 percent. Traffic growth exceeded the increase in capacity, lifting the airline’s load factor by three percentage points to 87.9 percent.

Ryanair Launches Record Morocco Winter Schedule
Ryanair has announced its largest-ever winter schedule in Morocco, offering 5.3 million seats across 156 destinations and introducing 17 new routes. The additions include services from Rabat to Stockholm and Krakow, Marrakesh to Wroclaw, and Agadir to Milan, Nuremberg, Bratislava and Gdansk.

Cork Airport has marked two milestones, welcoming its two millionth passenger of 2026 while celebrating the 20th anniversary of its terminal building. Staff from across the airport campus gathered under the theme “Twenty years young and two million strong” to recognise the occasion.
London Court Orders VietJet Air to Pay Additional US$18 Million to FW Aviation
The London Commercial Court has ruled that VietJet Air must pay an additional US$18 million to Shannon-based lessor FW Aviation. The judgment covers the cost of restoring two Airbus A321neo aircraft to an airworthy condition, export expenses and lost rental income following lease termination due to rental defaults. A previous judgment ordered VietJet to pay more than US$181 million in termination fees and liquidated damages, with the latest ruling arising from a third trial concerning contractual indemnity provisions.
Orix Aviation Agrees Acquisition of AerFin
Orix Aviation has agreed to acquire English aftermarket specialist AerFin, expanding its aviation-aftermarket services. The source describes the transaction as a €638 million acquisition and values AerFin at approximately ¥100 billion, or US$638 million. AerFin employs more than 230 people and operates in Wales, Miami, Singapore and Dublin, while Orix Aviation owns and manages more than 230 aircraft.

Emerald Airlines Chief Highlights Regional Aviation Priorities for Ireland’s EU Presidency
Emerald Airlines chief executive Keith Butler has highlighted aviation priorities ahead of Ireland assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In an interview with the European Regions Airline Association, he described Ireland as both an aviation-dependent island nation and a global aircraft-leasing centre. He said the Presidency provides an opportunity to support balanced policies covering regional connectivity, airline competitiveness and sustainable growth across Europe.
Government Says Air Corps Falcon 6X Retains Full Bad-Weather Capability
The Government has stated that the Air Corps’ new €53 million Dassault Falcon 6X retains full operational capability in bad weather. The aircraft was purchased without the FalconEye system because of Ireland’s 2024 policy on Israeli defence contracts. Minister Jack Chambers said the Department of Defence had confirmed that the aircraft had no operational limitations. Completed at a Dassault Aviation facility in the United States last year, the jet will be operated by the Air Corps and used primarily to transport the Taoiseach and senior ministers.
Belfast City Airport Retains Highest Accessibility Rating for Ninth Year
Belfast City Airport has received a “Very Good” accessibility rating for the ninth consecutive year, the highest rating available.
