Cathay sets new 2030 carbon intensity target

Cathay announced setting a new target to improve its carbon intensity by 12% from the 2019 level by 2030. ​ The carrier plans to scale up SAF usage on all fronts. Cathay will use SAF to offset 10% of the carbon emissions from employee duty travel on Cathay Pacific flights from 2024 onwards.

Cathay Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said “Despite being a major airline with one of the best carbon intensity performances in the world*, we are determined to improve our climate performance even further via accelerating the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), modernising our fleet and driving operational improvements. This new carbon intensity target will provide necessary drive for actions in the immediate future towards achieving our long-term goals.”

 

China Southern Airlines connects Frankfurt to Shenyang

China Southern Airlines announced a new connection between Frankfurt and Shenyang as a stopover on Guangzhou which will operate weekly effective from 24 April 2024.

 

Greater Bay Airlines appoints CEO

Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) announced the appointment of Ms Liza Ng, current Chief Operating Officer, as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 April 2024. Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) Chairman Mr Wong Cho Bau,  said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Hui for taking up the position as Chief Executive Officer in June 2022, replacing our former Chief Executive Officer Mr Algernon Yau, who assumed the post of the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Mr Hui’s significant contribution in laying a very solid foundation for the airline is greatly appreciated.”

 

Hainan Airlines and IHG announce partnership

Hainan Airlines and IHG Hotels & Resorts announced a new a two-year partnership to provide integrated travel experiences for passengers travelling between Hainan Free Trade Port, China, and other major cities. IHG Greater China Chief Operating Officer Jerome Qiu,  said “Partnering with Hainan Airlines extends this commitment to the air, providing both groups’ members with more immersive travel experiences. From the moment they step onto the plane, guests will be able to enjoy the sense of true hospitality for good, which we aim to convey every day."
