AEI receives EASA approval for Boeing 737-800SF conversion Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is excited to announced the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has approved AEI’s STC (ST02690LA) for the 12-pallet position B737-800SF freighter conversion. This is an important milestone for the company as AEI’s B737-800SF is an ideal freighter for European market route structures. Multiple European customers have already expressed interest in AEI’s B737-800SF conversion. Air Senegal Adds New Service from Dulles International Airport The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced Friday that Air Senegal will launch one-stop direct service from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Dakar, Senegal’s Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) beginning September 2, 2021, with two flights weekly. Service to and from Dulles International will include a stopover at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), where inbound passengers will clear U.S. Customs. Passengers on this new route will travel aboard Airbus A330-900neo aircraft operated in conjunction with Hi Fly. Avelo Expands To East Coast; Announces Tweed New Haven Airport Base Avelo Airlines announced its first East Coast base at Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN). Avelo will start operations at HVN in 3Q 2021, bringing choice, low fares, and convenience to Southern Connecticut with a mix of popular to-be-announced nonstop flights to popular destinations with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft. Boeing Expands Capacity for 737-800BCF to Meet Strong Customer Demand Boeing announced a new partnership with a Costa Rica-based maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider to create additional conversion capacity for the 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter. Boeing will open two 737-800BCF conversion lines with Cooperativa Autogestionaria de Servicios Aeroindustriales (COOPESA) in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The first of the new conversion lines is expected to open in early 2022, with the second anticipated later that year. Boeing forecasts 1,500 freighter conversions will be needed over the next 20 years to meet growing demand. Of those, 1,080 will be standard-body conversions, with nearly 30% of that demand coming from North America and Latin America. Global Crossing Airlines Acquires Crowdsource Travel Platform Flugy.com Global Crossing Airlines Group announced that it has completed its acquisition of democratized crowdsource travel platform Flugy.com. The acquisition combines the Flugy member platform with the deep charter operations expertise of the GlobalX leadership team and access to its growing fleet of Airbus A320 family of charter aircraft. Vortex Aviation Inducts First GTF PW1000G Engine in New Davie, Florida Facility Vortex Aviation announced the induction of the first Pratt and Whitney Geared Turbo Fan (GTF) PW1130G-JM engine at its new Davie, Florida US facility. The induction of the GTF PW1000G series engine adds to the capabilities of the Vortex facility including CFM LEAP 1A/1B, CFM56, IAE V2500 and other commercial jet engines.
