New Discover Airlines Shannon–Frankfurt Service Takes Off
Discover Airlines inaugurated a new Shannon–Frankfurt service on 25 April, operated by Airbus A320-214 D-AIUV, msn 07174. The route will operate weekly until 24 October. Frankfurt provides onward connections across continental Europe as well as long-haul destinations in Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Morocco Secures Ryanair’s Biggest-Ever Winter Schedule
Morocco’s National Tourism Office has announced Ryanair’s largest-ever winter programme for the country for Winter 2026. The airline will operate 156 routes to and from Morocco, including 17 new routes from its Agadir, Marrakech and Rabat bases. Ryanair will offer 5.3 million seats, connect Morocco with 14 European countries and operate 16 based aircraft, with two additional aircraft added across a network serving 13 Moroccan airports.
Aer Lingus Operates One-Time Dublin–Manchester A330 Service
Aer Lingus operated a one-time Dublin–Manchester service on 1 September 2026 using a two-class, 313-seat Airbus A330-302 EI-EIN, msn 1951. The aircraft operated EIN204/5 in place of the usual two-class, 184-seat Airbus A321LR/XLR equipment. The substitution followed the UK bank holiday weekend, with the source citing higher demand as the likely reason.
Aer Lingus Regional Enhances Liverpool–Dublin Route for North American Connectivity
Aer Lingus Regional, operated exclusively by Emerald Airlines, is revising timings on its Liverpool–Dublin service to improve onward connectivity to North America. From 28 March 2027, a new morning departure from Liverpool John Lennon Airport will provide improved one-stop connections through Dublin Airport to Boston, Chicago, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto.

AerCap Airbus A320-214 9H-AOZ, c/n 3954, ex ES-SAA, was ferried from Lourdes to Riyadh on 9 September 2026 on delivery. Skyliner does not yet identify the receiving operator.

Lufthansa Technik Begins Final AeroSHARK Certification Phase for Airbus A330
Lufthansa Technik has entered the final certification phase for its AeroSHARK drag-reducing surface film on the Airbus A330-200 and A330-300. A Discover Airlines A330-300 will become the first Airbus aircraft fitted with the technology and will undergo several weeks of test flights before and after installation at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden. The EASA certification process includes technical documentation, ground and flight testing, followed by final validation in commercial service.
Finnair Carries 1.13 Million Passengers in August
Finnair carried 1.126 million passengers in August 2026, an increase of 2.3 percent year on year, with growth in European traffic offsetting declines on North Atlantic and domestic services. Overall capacity fell by 4.8 percent, or 8.4 percent including wet-lease operations, while capacity increased slightly in Europe and Asia and declined substantially across the North Atlantic network despite the addition of Toronto. Middle East capacity remained at zero following the suspension of flights on 28 February.
EgyptAir to Launch Stockholm–Cairo Route in December
EgyptAir will launch year-round flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Cairo International Airport on 18 December 2026. The route will operate four times weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays using a 182-seat Airbus A321neo with business and economy cabins. The service will support business, leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic while providing onward connections through Cairo to destinations across the Middle East and Africa.
TUI fly Belgium Aircraft Damaged by Passenger Bus in Varna
Around 188 passengers were left stranded in Varna after a passenger bus struck the wing of TUI fly Belgium Boeing 737 MAX 8 OO-TMT on 8 September. The aircraft had operated from Brussels to Burgas before continuing to Varna as flight TB2861 and arrived safely before the incident occurred during preparations for the return flight. The damage prevented the aircraft from operating back to Belgium, and flight-tracking data showed it remained in Varna.
Air Dolomiti Introduces New Blue Livery for Embraer E195 Fleet
Air Dolomiti will replace its traditional turquoise tail and fuselage titles with Lufthansa Group’s Core Blue as part of a revised livery highlighting its position as a wholly owned Lufthansa Group subsidiary. The first aircraft to receive the new colours is the fourth of 13 Embraer E195s being transferred from Austrian Airlines and is expected to enter service after final maintenance in the coming weeks. All 13 aircraft are scheduled to join Air Dolomiti progressively by 2028, supporting its expansion as a wet-lease operator connecting Italy with Lufthansa Group hubs.
airBaltic Passenger Numbers Increase 5 Percent in August
airBaltic carried 554,700 passengers in August 2026, an increase of 5 percent compared with the same month last year. The airline operated 4,801 flights, up 7.9 percent year on year, while its load factor declined by 2.3 percentage points to 83.9 percent as capacity growth outpaced passenger growth.
Boeing Records 15 Orders and 49 Deliveries in August
Boeing recorded 15 gross commercial aircraft orders in August 2026, comprising two 737 MAX aircraft and 13 787s for unidentified customers. The manufacturer also delivered 49 aircraft during the month, including 737 MAXs to customers such as Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, VietJet Air, Akasa Air and several lessors, alongside 787s, 777 freighters and 767-300 freighters delivered to other operators and customers.
New Zealand Reports Progress on Aviation Action Plan
New Zealand’s government says more than half of the Aviation Action Plan’s 25 priorities have been achieved within its first year. Measures include funding to make RNZAF Base Ohakea available as a 24-hour alternative airport for widebody aircraft from mid-2027, support for vulnerable regional routes, and industry-led work on aviation workforce challenges. Progress also includes updating pilot training programmes, assessing future infrastructure needs for fleet growth, fuel demand and next-generation aircraft, and accelerating changes to civil aviation rules.

BDO Ireland Launches Aviation Advisory Practice
BDO Ireland has launched a dedicated Aviation Advisory unit serving aircraft lessors, airlines, investors, financial institutions and other participants in the global aviation finance market. The practice is led by Stan Barnes, Partner and Head of Aviation Advisory, alongside Donal Boylan and Gerry Power, who together bring more than 100 years of experience across aircraft leasing, aviation finance, asset management and aviation technology.
BOC Aviation to Lease 12 New A320neos to Avianca
BOC Aviation has agreed to acquire 12 Airbus A320neos for long-term lease to Avianca, expanding its relationship with the Colombian carrier and supporting Abra Group’s fleet growth strategy. The aircraft will be purchased directly from Airbus, powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines and delivered in 2029.
UK Airport Disruption Continues into Second Day
Delays and cancellations continued across major UK airports for a second day following the NATS flight-processing system outage, with more than 2,000 flights affected. NATS said at 12:55 PM on 9 September that operations were stable and that it was working with airports and airlines on recovery. The organisation also confirmed that a full investigation would be conducted into the outage.
SWISS Plans to Donate Last Airbus A340 to Swiss Museum of Transport
SWISS plans to donate the final Airbus A340-300 in its fleet to the Swiss Museum of Transport after the aircraft leaves commercial service. Its final journey from Zurich Airport to the museum in Lucerne is expected in early 2028, subject to funding, regulatory approvals and a workable method of transporting the 125-tonne aircraft by land. The project would preserve an aircraft type that has operated within SWISS’s long-haul network for more than two decades.
Dublin Airport Handles 3.83 Million Passengers in August
Dublin Airport handled 3,825,140 passengers in August 2026, an increase of 1.1 percent year on year. Passenger volumes exceeded 100,000 every day during the summer, with 11.3 million passengers handled across the period and 134,700 travellers recorded on the busiest day, 16 August. Through the first eight months of 2026, the airport handled 25.6 million passengers, up 5 percent.
IATA Welcomes Pratt & Whitney Canada Contract Changes
IATA has welcomed changes by Pratt & Whitney Canada to contractual terms that had raised competition concerns in the used engine parts market. The changes remove restrictions on maintenance shops within P&WC’s network that could have limited independent suppliers’ access to used engine material and related services. They apply to used parts for PT6 and PW100-series turboprop engines, but do not cover larger Pratt & Whitney commercial jet engines or regulator-approved alternative parts and repairs.
Airlines Assess Impact of UK Air Traffic Control Failure
Analysis suggests around 219,000 passengers were affected by the UK air traffic control failure, including more than 100,000 passengers across easyJet and Ryanair and approximately 46,500 British Airways passengers. A total of 728 outbound and 549 inbound flights were cancelled as airlines continued to assess the wider operational impact.
