New Discover Airlines Shannon–Frankfurt Service Takes Off

Discover Airlines inaugurated a new Shannon–Frankfurt service on 25 April, operated by Airbus A320-214 D-AIUV, msn 07174. The route will operate weekly until 24 October. Frankfurt provides onward connections across continental Europe as well as long-haul destinations in Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Morocco Secures Ryanair’s Biggest-Ever Winter Schedule

Morocco’s National Tourism Office has announced Ryanair’s largest-ever winter programme for the country for Winter 2026. The airline will operate 156 routes to and from Morocco, including 17 new routes from its Agadir, Marrakech and Rabat bases. Ryanair will offer 5.3 million seats, connect Morocco with 14 European countries and operate 16 based aircraft, with two additional aircraft added across a network serving 13 Moroccan airports.

Aer Lingus Operates One-Time Dublin–Manchester A330 Service

Aer Lingus operated a one-time Dublin–Manchester service on 1 September 2026 using a two-class, 313-seat Airbus A330-302 EI-EIN, msn 1951. The aircraft operated EIN204/5 in place of the usual two-class, 184-seat Airbus A321LR/XLR equipment. The substitution followed the UK bank holiday weekend, with the source citing higher demand as the likely reason.

Aer Lingus Regional Enhances Liverpool–Dublin Route for North American Connectivity

Aer Lingus Regional, operated exclusively by Emerald Airlines, is revising timings on its Liverpool–Dublin service to improve onward connectivity to North America. From 28 March 2027, a new morning departure from Liverpool John Lennon Airport will provide improved one-stop connections through Dublin Airport to Boston, Chicago, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto.

Qatar Airways Expands Winter Network to More Than 170 Destinations

Qatar Airways will serve more than 170 destinations during the 2026/27 winter season, operating nearly 1,800 weekly flights through Doha by December. The airline will resume daily Zanzibar services and Canberra flights via Melbourne, while increasing frequencies to destinations including Melbourne, Phuket, Malé, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur. In Europe, London Heathrow will rise to 56 weekly flights from 25 October, while Frankfurt will increase to 21 weekly services from 7 December.

Eurowings Opens Crew Training Centre Near Düsseldorf Airport

Eurowings and Lufthansa Aviation Training have opened a joint crew training centre near Düsseldorf Airport, the airline’s largest operating base. The 2,000-square-metre facility can train up to 150 cockpit and cabin crew members daily, with equipment for evacuation, aircraft-door, Airbus A320 and firefighting exercises. Virtual-reality training is planned from 2027, while Eurowings is also introducing a more practical recurrent training approach based on everyday flight operations.

Aer Lingus Deploys Airbus A330-300 on Dublin–Brussels Service

Aer Lingus operated an Airbus A330-300 on its Dublin–Brussels service on 9 September, replacing the Airbus A320 normally used on the route. The aircraft returned as flight EI631, departing Brussels at 11:39 and arriving in Dublin at 11:50 local time, around ten minutes late. The 784-kilometre route is usually served by a 174-seat A320, while the A330-300 offered around 315 seats, including 30 in business class, substantially increasing capacity.

Copa Airlines Highlights Long-Term Aircraft Acquisition Risk

Copa Airlines CEO Pedro Heilbron said aircraft purchasing requires airlines to make long-term commitments despite uncertainty around future market conditions. He noted that these decisions require careful risk assessment, with Copa currently scheduled to receive aircraft deliveries through 2034.

EgyptAir Plans Cairo–Singapore–Sydney Service from 2027

EgyptAir plans to launch a one-stop service between Cairo and Sydney via Singapore from 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. The proposed route would create a new air link between Egypt and Australia and provide onward connectivity across Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The service may be operated with EgyptAir’s new Airbus A350 aircraft as the airline expands into additional long-haul markets.

Frontier to Launch Three New International Routes to Colombia

Frontier Airlines will launch services from Orlando to Medellín, Bogotá and Cartagena starting in December 2026. Medellín flights will begin on 10 December and operate daily, while Bogotá will launch on 14 December with six weekly services before increasing to daily from 6 March 2027. Weekly flights to Cartagena will start on 19 December.

KLM Completes A350 Test Flights Ahead of First Delivery

KLM’s first Airbus A350 has completed two test flights ahead of its expected delivery later this month. The aircraft will be named The Night Watch, after Rembrandt’s painting, and is scheduled to operate services to Toronto, Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Zanzibar.

JetBlue Raises Revenue Outlook but Flags Higher Costs

JetBlue has raised its third-quarter seat-revenue outlook as passenger demand remained steady despite higher fares, while its shares rose 1.5 percent in midday trading. The airline is also facing higher-than-expected costs as rising fuel prices increase pressure across the sector. Airlines have responded to higher fuel costs by increasing ticket prices and reducing capacity, although passenger demand has so far remained resilient.

Boeing Appoints Executive to Support Next Commercial Aircraft Development

Boeing has appointed Sean Black, who has led its Wichita operation, to oversee development of the company’s future production system. The role will support Boeing as it lays the groundwork for a new single-aisle aircraft programme.

Volotea Restructures Finances and Defers Debt Payments to 2028

Volotea has deferred 49.3 million euro in debt payments to 2028 as part of a financial restructuring. The airline ended 2025 with negative net equity of 77.5 million euro and expects a 33 million euro net loss in 2026. Aegean Airlines has invested 9.5 million euro as part of a wider 71 million euro funding round, while Volotea’s active fleet has been reduced to 41 aircraft.

Wizz Air Begins Rebuilding Middle East Network

Wizz Air is restoring 12 Middle East routes for the winter 2026–27 season, including eight services to the UAE. From 25 October, the airline plans to operate 32 weekly flights to the UAE, with 20 to Abu Dhabi and 12 to Dubai, as part of a wider 49-weekly-flight programme linking Europe with the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Six routes will serve Abu Dhabi, including new services from Budapest and Katowice starting on 25 October.

Ryanair Highlights Fuel Hedging Position and Winter Fare Outlook

Ryanair has hedged 80 percent of its oil costs at 67 dollars a barrel until March 2027, with a further 15 percent hedged at 85 dollars a barrel for the 2028 financial year. Group CEO Michael O’Leary said average fares may rise slightly this winter following a mild improvement since July. Winter schedule cuts have reduced the airline’s fiscal 2027 traffic target to 214 million passengers, while oil prices rose above 100 dollars a barrel during the week.

Bombardier Global 8000 Secures Approval for London City Airport

Bombardier has secured UK Civil Aviation Authority certification allowing its Global 8000 business jet to operate at London City Airport. The airport’s short runway and steep approach requirements limit the types of aircraft able to use it, making the approval a significant operational milestone for the Global 8000.

JSX CEO Raises Concerns Over Potential Jet Fuel Shortage

JSX CEO Alex Wilcox has warned that jet fuel shortages could emerge as crude oil prices remain elevated. He noted that US jet fuel averaged 4.04 dollars per gallon as of Tuesday, while crude oil had moved above 100 dollars per barrel. Wilcox said sustained high fuel prices and potential shortages could place additional pressure on financially weaker airlines.

Airborne Capital Marks First Deliveries for New Aircraft Investment Fund

Dublin-headquartered Airborne Capital has announced the first aircraft deliveries for MACH OE, an open-ended aircraft investment fund established with Japan’s Mercuria Investment and Mercuria Holdings. The fund received two new Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft on 29 and 30 July, which have been placed on long-term lease with United Airlines. The aircraft are the first assets acquired by MACH OE as it begins building its portfolio.

Clare Wind Farm Refused Over Shannon Airport Radar Concerns

An Coimisiún Pleanála has refused planning permission for an 11-turbine wind farm at the 12 O’Clock Hills in south-east Clare, citing aviation safety concerns. The proposed Ørsted development was located around nine kilometres north of Limerick city and less than five kilometres from Sixmilebridge. The decision, issued on 2 September, marks the second wind energy project in Clare to be refused this year on aviation-related grounds.

Registration Opens for EASA Annual Safety Conference 2026 in Dublin

Registration is now open for the EASA Annual Safety Conference 2026, which will take place in Dublin on 18–19 November. The event is EASA’s flagship high-level safety conference and will be held in cooperation with the Irish Aviation Authority. This year’s theme is “Safety Together: Turning Priorities into Action”, and the conference is recognised as an Associated Event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Acumen Aviation will attend ISTAT EMEA 2026 at the Bella Center Copenhagen from 13–15 September.
