Belgium’s Government Jet Fleet Faces Limited Backup Capacity

Belgium operates two leased Dassault Falcon 7X aircraft for official government travel, leaving limited backup when one aircraft is unavailable. In September, one aircraft reportedly underwent maintenance for around six months, leaving a single jet available for official requirements. Prime Minister Bart De Wever had previously travelled to India on a commercial flight when neither Falcon was available. The reporting refers to the fleet situation in September and does not confirm whether the extended maintenance period is still continuing.

IATA Says 24 Per Cent of Airline Debt Matures Within 12 Months

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says 24 per cent of airline debt is due within the next 12 months and may need refinancing at higher interest rates. Around two-thirds matures beyond two years, including 43 per cent due within three to five years. Asia-Pacific has the highest 12-month maturity share at 37 per cent, followed by the Middle East at 26 per cent, Latin America at 21 per cent, Africa at 17 per cent, Europe at 15 per cent and North America at 12 per cent. IATA said higher refinancing costs could reduce funds available for fleet renewal, deleveraging and decarbonisation.

EU Court Says Dublin Airport Passenger Cap Must Be Considered in Slot Allocation

The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that Irish regulators must take Dublin Airport’s 32 million annual passenger cap into account when allocating take-off and landing slots. The cap originates from planning permissions granted in 2007 and 2008 and was found to represent a legally binding limit on the number of passengers the airport can handle. The court therefore considers it a legitimate capacity constraint for slot-allocation purposes. The case will now return to the Irish High Court.

Starlink is currently installed on more than 635 United aircraft and is available on almost half of the airline’s daily flights. United plans to complete installations across its fleet by 2027. The tool gives travellers a clearer indication of Wi-Fi availability before they fly.

Acumen’s Take

The latest DAB reflects an aviation market that continues to balance network growth, fleet activity, and operational performance with broader financial, regulatory, and infrastructure considerations. Airlines, lessors and service providers remain focused on capacity planning, asset utilisation, maintenance support and resilient operating models.
