Icelandair A320ceo Operates First Service to Dublin Airport

Icelandair Airbus A320-232 TF-IAT, MSN 6489, operated its first service to Dublin Airport on 16 September 2026 on flights ICE416/7 between Keflavik and Dublin. The aircraft arrived at 11:43 am and departed at 1:27 pm local time. It first flew in February 2015, was delivered to Wizz Air in March 2015 and later joined Icelandair on 7 June 2026 in a two-class, 154-seat configuration. Icelandair currently operates seven Airbus aircraft and has additional A320neo and A321LR aircraft planned, which would bring its Airbus fleet to 20 aircraft. 

 

Air India Express Boeing 737NGs Returned to Lessor at Shannon Airport

Air India Express Boeing 737-8AL VT-TGG, MSN 39065, was ferried from Larnaca to Shannon on 13 August 2026 as part of its return to lessor Macquarie AirFinance. The aircraft was re-registered as 2-AOIF on 26 August. A second Boeing 737-8AL, VT-TGH, MSN 39066, was ferried from Larnaca to Shannon on 17 August for return to the same lessor. 

 

Shannon Airport Tops One Million Summer Passengers

More than one million passengers travelled through Shannon Airport between May and August 2026, representing an increase of 11.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Growth was supported by new services to Rome, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Poznań and Madrid, along with increased frequencies on existing routes. The airport also welcomed strong inbound traffic, including visitors travelling for tourism, golf and major sporting events. Shannon Airport Group said its focus now shifts to the winter season while continuing to invest in the terminal and the overall passenger experience.

 

Aer Lingus Completes Starlink Rollout on Airbus A321neo Fleet

Aer Lingus has completed the Starlink Wi-Fi rollout across all 14 of its Airbus A321neo aircraft, with EI-XLV among the latest to be equipped. The airline said connectivity satisfaction scores on Starlink-enabled aircraft are 27 points higher than across the rest of its fleet. Around 85 per cent of passengers connect during each flight, often using more than one device. On some transatlantic services, data usage has reached up to 950GB in a single crossing.

HS-VZW Boeing 737-8200 Delivered to Thai VietJet Air 

Thai VietJet Air has taken delivery of Boeing 737-8200 HS-VZW, MSN 67958. The aircraft was routed from Boeing Field to Bangkok via Anchorage and Chitose between 29 September and 1 October 2026.

 

S2-STF ATR 72-600 Delivered to Air Astra 

Air Astra has taken delivery of ATR 72-600 S2-STF, MSN 1823, formerly F-WWEL. The aircraft was routed from Toulouse to Dhaka via Cairo and Abu Dhabi between 28 and 30 September 2026.

Ethiopian Airlines Orders Ten Boeing Freighters 

Ethiopian Airlines has placed a firm order for eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters to expand its cargo fleet and international network. The deal makes Ethiopian the first African airline to order the 777-8F. It also doubles the carrier’s firm order book for the 777X family to 16 aircraft, including eight 777-9 passenger jets already on order. Delivery dates and the value of the agreement were not disclosed.

 

Global Air Passenger Demand Decreases 0.8 Per Cent in August 

Global air passenger demand decreased by 0.8 per cent year on year in August 2026, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), with weaker traffic in the Middle East offsetting growth elsewhere. Excluding Middle Eastern carriers, demand increased by 0.6 per cent. Airline capacity still increased by 0.3 per cent, while the global passenger load factor decreased to 85.1 per cent. International demand fell by 0.9 per cent and domestic traffic by 0.5 per cent.
 

FLYONE Armenia confirms order for two Airbus A321neos

FLYONE Armenia has ordered two Airbus A321neo aircraft in its first direct purchase from the manufacturer. The deal builds on a memorandum of understanding announced in May 2026 and will support the airline’s planned fleet and network growth. Each aircraft will be fitted with CFM International LEAP engines and a 239-seat all-economy cabin. The carrier was established in 2021 and currently operates 11 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.

 

European Airport Traffic Gains Pace as Brussels Cargo Grows 

Passenger traffic at European airports increased by 3.9 per cent year on year in July and 3.1 per cent in August, according to ACI EUROPE. This was stronger than the 1.3 per cent growth recorded in the second quarter. Airports outside the EU+ market saw passenger numbers increase by 6.6 per cent in July and 6 per cent in August. EU+ airports, covering the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK, recorded increases of 3.4 per cent and 2.5 per cent, respectively.

 

Eurowings Expands Winter Network and Premium BIZ Seating 

Eurowings is expanding its winter 2026/27 network, with Berlin set to serve 38 destinations, including new services to Baghdad and additional routes across Europe and the Middle East. From 1 December, the airline will also extend its Premium BIZ Seat offering. Berlin gains new winter services to Rome, Bologna and Kuusamo, while London Heathrow and Nice continue from the summer schedule. Bilbao and Porto will operate twice weekly for the first time in winter, with extra December services also planned to Lisbon, Sarajevo and Jerez de la Frontera.
 

Interim Report Released on Vietnam Airlines Munich Runway Incident 

An interim investigation into Vietnam Airlines flight VN34 has found that the Boeing 787-9’s brakes were applied during its take-off roll at Munich Airport on 15 August 2026. The aircraft was departing for Hanoi and only became airborne after passing beyond the paved runway surface. The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) published the findings as part of its ongoing review of the incident.

 

Industry Groups Ask FAA to Pause Single-Pilot Exemption Decision 

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and Citation Jet Pilots Association have asked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to pause its decision to withdraw single-pilot exemptions for certain legacy Cessna Citation twinjets. The exemptions allowed eligible Part 25-certified CE-500 series aircraft to operate with one pilot instead of the usual two. Affected models include the Citation, Citation I, Citation II, Citation S/II, Navy T-47A, Citation V, Citation Ultra, Bravo, Encore and Encore+.

 

Great Wealth Transfer Could Reshape Air Charter Demand

A generational wealth transfer estimated at 84 trillion US dollars could influence how future business aviation customers access aircraft. UBS Global Wealth Management chief economist Paul Donovan said tax considerations may make leasing more attractive than ownership for some buyers. He noted that owned assets can be subject to capital gains tax, while leasing costs are treated differently, which could shape future demand across aircraft ownership and charter markets.

 

Embraer Supplier Council Explores Innovations 

Embraer used its latest Supplier Advisory Council meeting to focus on strengthening the aerospace supply chain through closer collaboration. Discussions covered digitalisation, automation, artificial intelligence and operational efficiency. Council members also shared progress on initiatives involving inventory management, systems integration and faster manufacturing processes. The meeting was hosted by Garmin at its headquarters in Olathe, Kansas.

 

Air France-KLM Submits Final Offer for Up to 49.9 Per Cent of TAP Air Portugal 

Air France-KLM has submitted its final proposal to acquire up to 49.9 per cent of TAP Air Portugal as the Portuguese government moves closer to selecting an investor. The plan covers TAP’s passenger, cargo, loyalty and maintenance, repair and overhaul businesses. Air France-KLM said TAP would remain a Portuguese carrier, with further growth planned across Lisbon, Porto and other markets in Portugal.

 

Azul Secures Up to 2.66 Billion Brazilian Reais in BNDES Financing 

Azul has finalised a long-term loan agreement with the Brazilian Development Bank, BNDES, for up to 2.66 billion Brazilian reais through the National Civil Aviation Fund. The airline received an initial 1.3 billion Brazilian reais on 29 September. A further 1.3 billion Brazilian reais is expected to become available during the fourth quarter of 2026.

 

AnimaWings Enters Judicial Reorganisation Amid Fleet and Cost Pressures 

AnimaWings has begun a judicial reorganisation process to stabilise its finances and continue operations. The Romanian carrier said recurring technical issues have reduced aircraft availability, affecting both operational capacity and commercial performance. Higher operating costs and broader economic pressures have also added to the airline’s financial challenges.

 

StandardAero Appoints Paul McElhinney as Chief Executive Officer 

StandardAero has appointed Paul McElhinney as Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Russell Ford, who will remain executive chairman of the board through the end of the year. McElhinney brings more than 30 years of aerospace and industrial leadership experience, including senior roles at GE Aviation Services and GE Power Services. He has also served on StandardAero’s board since 2019, giving him prior knowledge of the company’s strategy, customers and operations.

Star Alliance Paris Charles de Gaulle Lounge Named World’s Best by Skytrax 

The Star Alliance lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport has been named the World’s Best Airline Alliance Lounge at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards. This marks its third consecutive win in the category. The Star Alliance lounge at Los Angeles International Airport placed second, giving the alliance the top two positions in this year’s ranking.

 

High Winds Affect Flights to and from Ireland 

Ryanair reported delays to some flights to and from Ireland on 29 September 2026 due to high winds affecting operations across the country. The airline said passengers on affected services were being notified directly. Travellers were advised to check the Ryanair app for the latest information before travelling. The advisory was issued as weather conditions continued to affect flight schedules.

 

Aer Lingus Completes Starlink Rollout Across Narrowbody Transatlantic Fleet 

Aer Lingus has completed the rollout of free Starlink Wi-Fi across its narrowbody transatlantic fleet. The installation covers eight Airbus A321LR and six Airbus A321XLR aircraft and was completed in just over two months. Passengers travelling to more than 10 North American destinations can now stream content and stay connected during flight.
 

Lufthansa Group Keeps Options Open for Lufthansa Technik Partnership 

Lufthansa Technik remains a key part of Lufthansa Group’s portfolio, although the group has not ruled out a future equity partnership in the aftermarket business. Lufthansa previously explored selling a minority stake after the 2020 downturn as part of efforts to strengthen its balance sheet. Those discussions ended after three years without a deal, and the group instead continued investing in Lufthansa Technik’s global aftermarket operations.

 

Mallorca Increases Winter Air Links with Madrid 

Mallorca will increase winter air connectivity with Madrid by 37 per cent. The additional frequencies are intended to support year-round travel and extend demand beyond the summer season. Forecast occupancy for the autumn period stands at 53 per cent, indicating further room for growth.

 

Irish-Registered A321LR Joins ITA Airways in Star Alliance Colours

ITA Airways has taken delivery of the Airbus A321neo-LR, registration EI-HXI, MSN 13121, in Star Alliance livery. The aircraft flew from Hamburg-Finkenwerder to Rome Fiumicino on 9 September under callsign ITY1234. It is configured with 165 seats, including 12 Business Class, 12 Premium Economy and 141 Economy seats. ITA Airways deploys its A321LR fleet from Rome on a mix of domestic, short- and medium-haul routes, including Accra, Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Brussels, Catania, Dakar, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Paris and Palermo.

 

Aer Lingus and Into Norway Showcase Irish-Norwegian Connectivity 

Aer Lingus and Norwegian tourism partners highlighted travel opportunities between Ireland and Norway during an Into Norway Day event in Dublin. Aer Lingus currently operates its Dublin–Oslo service four times a week until 31 October, providing Irish travellers with direct access to Norway. Aer Lingus and the Norwegian Embassy hosted the event at the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence in Dublin on 15 September, bringing together Irish and Norwegian travel trade partners.

Ryanair Calls for Lower Dublin Airport Passenger Charges 

Ryanair has called for lower passenger charges at Dublin Airport, describing them as important to restoring growth and competitiveness in Irish aviation. The airline made the comments in a submission to the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA). The regulator is considering the level of airport charges that will apply from next year through to 2031.

 

EU Court to Rule on Dublin Airport Passenger Cap Challenge 

A European Union court is due to rule in two weeks on a legal challenge to Dublin Airport’s annual passenger cap of 32 million. Aer Lingus, Ryanair and a group of US carriers brought the case in 2024. It challenges the regulators' decision to consider the cap when allocating take-off and landing slots at the airport. The High Court referred questions from the case to the EU court for a ruling.
