China Eastern Launches Direct Dublin–Shanghai Route
China Eastern Airlines has launched a new three-times-weekly non-stop service between Dublin and Shanghai, giving Ireland its first direct connection to the Chinese city. The route is operated with Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with inaugural flight MU231 arriving in Dublin shortly after 07:30 before outbound service MU232 departed for Shanghai at around 11:30.
Ryanair Focuses on CEE Expansion for Winter 2026/27
Ryanair is increasing its focus on Central and Eastern Europe for Winter 2026/27, with additional capacity planned across Slovakia and Poland. The shift follows the airline’s decision to close its seven-aircraft base in Berlin and three-aircraft base in Thessaloniki, while expanding fleet deployment and network activity across key CEE markets.
TUI Announces New Cork–Palma Route for Summer 2027
TUI will launch a new weekly service between Cork Airport and Palma for Summer 2027, operating every Tuesday from 18 May to 31 August. The route will use 189-seat Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and will support TUI’s Marella Cruises offering for Irish holidaymakers. The service will provide travellers from the South of Ireland with direct access to Palma, a key Mediterranean homeport for Marella Cruises.

Mozambique’s LAM Invests €30.2 Million in Five Aircraft
Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique invested approximately €30.2 million in five aircraft during 2025 as part of its fleet renewal and operational recovery strategy. The aircraft were fully paid for by year-end and are expected to reduce reliance on leased capacity while supporting domestic and regional operations. The investment forms part of a wider restructuring programme aimed at improving the airline’s long-term financial and operational stability.
MSC Air Cargo Orders Five Boeing 777-8 Freighters
MSC Air Cargo has ordered five Boeing 777-8 Freighters, marking its first commitment to Boeing’s next-generation widebody freighter. The aircraft will complement the carrier’s existing 777 Freighter fleet and support further expansion of its global cargo network. Boeing says the 777-8 Freighter is designed to offer higher payload capability, lower fuel consumption and improved operating economics for long-haul freight operations.
National Airlines Orders Additional GE90 and CF6 Engines
National Airlines has committed to purchase one GE90-110B engine and six CF6-80C2 engines from GE Aerospace to support its Boeing 777F and 747F freighter fleet. The carrier already operates 30 CF6-powered engines and eight GE90 engines, with the additional units intended to support growing cargo demand and improve operational flexibility.
NOEMI Receives €3 Million Grant for Electric Amphibious Aircraft Flight Testing
Norwegian startup NOEMI Aerospace has secured €3 million from Innovation Norway to support the flight-test programme for its electric amphibious aircraft. The funding will cover ground, water and flight testing of the prototype, which is under construction at Torp Sandefjord Airport, with rollout expected within 12 months and first flight targeted by the end of 2027. The aircraft is being developed for regional passenger, cargo, medevac, firefighting, search-and-rescue, and other special-mission operations.
Turkish Airlines Pursues New Acquisition Opportunities Across Asia and Latin America
Turkish Airlines is expanding its search for acquisition opportunities, with Asia and South America among the regions under consideration as it grows its global aviation portfolio. Chairman Murat Seker said the carrier widened its search following its agreement to invest €300 million in Air Europa, a deal expected to give Turkish Airlines a 25 to 27 percent stake once completed. The investment is intended to strengthen its reach across Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, where Air Europa’s network complements Turkish Airlines’ existing operations. Turkish Airlines also holds a 50 percent stake in leisure carrier SunExpress, with the remaining 50 percent owned by Lufthansa under a joint venture established in 1989.
Uganda Airlines Orders Boeing 737-8 and 787-9 Aircraft
Uganda Airlines has placed its first-ever order with Boeing for four 737-8 aircraft and four 787-9 Dreamliners as part of its fleet modernisation and expansion programme. Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, the order will support the airline’s plans to strengthen regional and long-haul connectivity while developing Entebbe as a key East African aviation hub. The 737-8s will serve routes across Africa, the Middle East and India, while the 787-9s will support longer-haul services to Europe, Asia and the Middle East. .
United Plans to Retire 80 Aircraft as 737 MAX 10 Deliveries Approach
United Airlines plans to retire 80 older, less fuel-efficient aircraft in 2027 as part of a wider fleet renewal and cabin refresh programme. Chief Financial Officer Mike Leskinen said the retirement figure represents a step up from previous years and is intended to help better align capacity with demand. The accelerated retirements should also support faster completion of upgraded interiors across the fleet while helping reduce costs and improve margins.
Vietnam Airlines to Lease 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft
Vietnam Airlines plans to lease 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from three global lessors, with deliveries beginning in 2028. The agreements cover 10 aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital, four from Avolon, and five from Phoenix Aviation Capital, managed by AIP Capital. Once delivered, the airline’s 737 MAX fleet will total 69 aircraft, supporting long-term fleet growth, improved operating efficiency and rising demand across domestic and regional international markets.
Virgin Australia Secures Sustainability-Linked Loan for Boeing 737-8 Fleet
Virgin Australia has secured a sustainability-linked loan to finance nine Boeing 737-8 aircraft in its delivery pipeline, four of which have already been delivered. The financing is linked to agreed carbon emissions reduction targets, aligning fleet investment with the airline’s wider sustainability objectives. The 737-8 is expected to use around 20 per cent less fuel than Virgin Australia’s Boeing 737-800NG fleet, supporting lower emissions intensity and improved operating efficiency.

Jackson Square Aviation Begins 20-Aircraft Sale-and-Leaseback Programme with IndiGo
Jackson Square Aviation has delivered the first Airbus A320neo to IndiGo under a 20-aircraft sale-and-leaseback agreement, with deliveries set to continue through 2028. The transaction expands the long-standing relationship between JSA and IndiGo while supporting the airline’s continued domestic and international fleet growth. The agreement covers 20 new-generation A320neo aircraft, providing additional capacity alongside improved fuel efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions.
NTSB Issues Letter Over Ryanair Comments on Thessaloniki Accident Investigation
The NTSB has written to Ryanair Group CEO Michael O’Leary and Malta’s Bureau of Air Accident Investigation over comments concerning the 10 July 2026 Malta Air Boeing 737-8AS accident near Polykastro, Greece. The aircraft suffered an uncontained No. 2 engine failure followed by cabin decompression. The NTSB reminded Ryanair that ICAO Annex 13 restricts technical advisers from publicly discussing investigative findings without consent. It also said no cause has yet been determined, with aircraft age and servicing issues still under consideration, and urged O’Leary to avoid further public statements while the investigation continues.
StandardAero Signs LEAP LeaseTEAM Agreement with Avolon
StandardAero has signed a LeaseTEAM agreement with global lessor Avolon, providing its customers with access to a broad range of CFM International LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engine services. StandardAero is an independent provider of aerospace engine aftermarket services, including engine maintenance, repair and overhaul and component repair. Avolon’s fleet includes approximately 150 delivered Airbus A320neo aircraft powered by LEAP-1A engines and 54 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft powered by LEAP-1B engines, giving the agreement relevance across a substantial new-generation narrowbody portfolio.
