United to Launch A321XLR Washington Dulles–Dublin Service from December
United Airlines will introduce its Airbus A321XLR on international services from Washington Dulles to Dublin and Amsterdam from 1–2 December, marking the aircraft’s entry into international service. The Dublin launch forms part of United’s largest-ever international network expansion, which will add 10 new international cities and three additional routes across Europe and Asia in summer 2027. Dublin Airport said the deployment reflects sustained transatlantic demand and will support greater connectivity between Ireland and North America.
ASL Aviation Holdings Adds Two Boeing 747-400ERFs Through Acquisitions
Dublin-based ASL Aviation Holdings has acquired two Boeing 747-400ERF freighters that were previously operated within the group under operating lease. The aircraft, MSN 33516 (OE-IFB) and MSN 33945 (OE-IFD), are operated by ASL Airlines Belgium and form part of the group’s long-haul freighter fleet. The acquisitions expand ASL’s owned aircraft portfolio as the group continues developing its international air cargo platform.
Dublin Aerospace Extends Honeywell APU Maintenance Partnership
Dublin Aerospace has extended its Honeywell Aerospace Channel Partner Agreement covering maintenance of 131-9A and 131-9B APUs. The agreement allows Dublin Aerospace to continue providing Honeywell-approved overhaul, repair, modification and testing services for both APU types. The extension continues the longstanding maintenance partnership between Dublin Aerospace and Honeywell.

Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-8 ET-BCR, MSN 43576, was delivered from Boeing Field to Addis Ababa via Dublin between 25 and 27 August 2026.
Aloha Airlines Boeing 737-48E(F) N454KH Delivered to Bangor
Boeing 737-48E(F) N454KH, MSN 28198, ex 2-RAJZ, was delivered from Shannon to Bangor via Keflavik on 23 August 2026 for Aloha Airlines.

Riyadh Air Expands Network with Three New September Routes
Riyadh Air will add Bangkok, Manila and Manchester to its network in September 2026 as it continues expanding following the start of commercial operations earlier this year. The airline will launch three weekly Boeing 787-9 flights to Bangkok from 2 September, daily services to Manila from 9 September and three weekly flights to Manchester from 19 September.
Global Passenger Demand Remains Broadly Flat in July
Global passenger demand increased just 0.2 percent in July 2026. Traffic was weaker in the Middle East (9.5 percent decrease) and North America (2.3 percent decrease), while Europe recorded growth (3.1 percent increase). Europe–Asia was the strongest major corridor (12.1 percent increase), while domestic demand also remained positive (0.6 percent increase; supported by Brazil and China). Airlines are planning almost 3 percent more global seat capacity in September, indicating continued confidence in demand.
Apollo Funds Acquires Major Stake in Atlantic Aviation
KKR has sold a significant interest in Atlantic Aviation to Apollo Funds while remaining a substantial shareholder. Atlantic has expanded from 69 US locations in 2021 to more than 100 today. The transaction values the FBO operator at nearly 10 billion dollars, compared with the 4.5 billion dollars KKR paid when it acquired the business in 2021.
NetJets and FlightSafety Revenue Rises in First Half of 2026
Berkshire Hathaway reported a 15.5 percent year-on-year increase in revenue from its aviation services businesses, NetJets and FlightSafety International, during the first half of 2026. Growth was supported by more aircraft enrolled in NetJets’ fractional programmes, higher flying activity, increased use of FlightSafety training and stronger pricing. Higher crew, instructor, maintenance, fuel and contract costs partly offset these gains.
BlueSky Extends Charter Pricing Access to Non-Members
BlueSky Jets is temporarily allowing non-members to request commission-free charter pricing without joining its membership programme. Travellers can submit trip details and compare pricing with other brokers, while BlueSky sources aircraft from FAA Part 135 operators across the US. Each trip is matched to a suitable aircraft category rather than priced from a fixed fleet or standard hourly rate.
SolitAir Adds New African Cargo Routes
Dubai-based SolitAir has launched flights to Port Harcourt International Airport in Nigeria and Egal International Airport in Hargeisa, Somaliland, expanding its African network to 20 destinations across 16 countries. Port Harcourt is a major cargo gateway linked to Nigeria’s oil and gas economy, while Egal International Airport supports exports including livestock and time-sensitive agricultural goods.
Global Freighter Capacity Increases in August
Global main-deck freighter capacity increased in August, with the Cargo Facts Freighter Capacity Index moving from 138.8 to 139.5. The index was also 1.6 points higher than a year earlier, showing that more freighter capacity was active in the global air cargo market.
One Air Adds Boeing 777F Flights to Avalon Airport
UK-based One Air added Avalon Airport in Melbourne to its freighter network in August with Boeing 777F charter flights from Hong Kong. The first flight operated on 10 August using 2025-built aircraft unit 68454 and was the first of five short-term charters operated on behalf of parent company Air One. The addition comes as dedicated freighter activity continues to expand in the Australian market.
Qantas Increases Trans-Tasman Capacity for Northern Winter 2026/27
Qantas plans to increase capacity across most of its Australia–New Zealand routes between 25 October 2026 and 28 March 2027. The largest increases are planned on Sydney–Auckland and Melbourne–Queenstown, with additional flights also scheduled on Adelaide–Auckland, Brisbane–Queenstown, Melbourne–Auckland and Sydney–Queenstown. Brisbane–Auckland will operate slightly fewer flights, although overall seat capacity on the route will still increase.
Etihad Expands North American Network to Eight Destinations in 2026
Etihad Airways will serve eight destinations across the US and Canada in 2026, its largest North American network to date. The airline currently flies to Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, New York, Washington and Toronto, and will add Calgary in late October. The Calgary route will become Etihad’s first direct link between the Middle East and Western Canada.

Shannon Airliner Update Details Latest Maintenance, Storage and Aircraft Movements
The latest Shannon Airliner Update highlights continued maintenance, painting, storage and aircraft transition activity at the airport. Recent movements include Spirit Airbus A320neos entering Atlantic Aviation maintenance before transfer to EirTrade Aviation, alongside Boeing 757 and 767 freighter maintenance visits. Air India Express Boeing 737-8AL VT-TGG was re-registered as 2-AOIF for Macquarie AirFinance following maintenance and return-to-lessor activity, while Antonov An-124 UR-82007 arrived for painting by IAC. ASL aircraft also recorded re-registration and transition activity, alongside further ferry and delivery movements through Shannon.
Northern Ireland Airports Record Passenger Growth in Q2 and First Half of 2026
Belfast International, Belfast City and City of Derry all recorded a positive second quarter in 2026, following a solid start to the year. The latest CAA figures show an encouraging overall picture for Northern Ireland’s airports compared with 2025. Belfast’s comparison comes against a softer 2025 base, when passenger numbers were around 55,000 lower, a 2 percent decrease, than the previous year.

Aircraft Leasing Ireland has welcomed the Government’s updated Ireland for Finance Strategy 2026–2030, saying it recognises the strategic importance of aviation finance to the Irish economy. ALI said the strategy also supports Ireland’s position as a global centre for aircraft leasing.
Iberia Launches Autumn Fare Campaign Across Spanish and International Routes
Iberia has launched an autumn promotional sale running until 23 September 2026. Fares start from 24 euro on domestic routes in Spain, 29 euro to European destinations, 170 euro to the US, 258 euro to Latin America and 462 euro to Tokyo. The offer applies to travel between October 2026 and June 2027.
IATA Reports Continued Air Cargo Demand Growth in July
Global air cargo demand increased 3.9 percent year on year in July 2026, with North America recording the strongest regional growth. Asia–North America was the best-performing major trade lane, while Gulf-linked corridors remained under pressure from Middle East disruption. Global trade also continued to expand, supporting demand across key cargo markets.
IATA World Sustainability Symposium to Focus on Aviation Decarbonisation
IATA will hold its fourth World Sustainability Symposium in Brussels on 13–14 October 2026. The event will bring together leaders from aviation, energy, finance, technology, academia and government to discuss the policies and actions needed to support air transport’s transition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
EASA Extends Middle East Airspace Restrictions Until 30 September
EASA has extended its regional airspace warning until 30 September 2026, with the advisory now focused on waters over the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The recommendation to avoid Jordanian airspace has been lifted, although caution remains advised. Restrictions covering Iran, Iraq and Lebanon remain in place, while flights required for arrivals and departures may continue where appropriate safety measures are applied.
Plans Submitted for New 24-Hour Bus Links to Dublin Airport
Plans are progressing for two new 24-hour bus services connecting north Kildare and west Dublin directly with Dublin Airport. Dublin Coach has submitted an application to the NTA for a Maynooth–Dublin Airport service via Dunboyne, Clonee and Blanchardstown. A second application is due for an hourly service linking Celbridge, Leixlip, Lucan and Liffey Valley with the airport.
Shannon Airport Hosts AIB Press Photographer of the Year Exhibition
Shannon Airport is hosting the AIB Press Photographer of the Year Awards 2026 exhibition, featuring more than 100 photographs capturing moments from across Ireland in 2025. The exhibition will remain on display at the airport for the next fortnight. It includes work by Mark Condren, who was named Press Photographer of the Year for a record seventh time.
