United to Launch A321XLR Washington Dulles–Dublin Service from December
United Airlines will introduce its Airbus A321XLR on international services from Washington Dulles to Dublin and Amsterdam from 1–2 December, marking the aircraft’s entry into international service. The Dublin launch forms part of United’s largest-ever international network expansion, which will add 10 new international cities and three additional routes across Europe and Asia in summer 2027. Dublin Airport said the deployment reflects sustained transatlantic demand and will support greater connectivity between Ireland and North America.
ASL Aviation Holdings Adds Two Boeing 747-400ERFs Through Acquisitions
Dublin-based ASL Aviation Holdings has acquired two Boeing 747-400ERF freighters that were previously operated within the group under operating lease. The aircraft, MSN 33516 (OE-IFB) and MSN 33945 (OE-IFD), are operated by ASL Airlines Belgium and form part of the group’s long-haul freighter fleet. The acquisitions expand ASL’s owned aircraft portfolio as the group continues developing its international air cargo platform.
Dublin Aerospace Extends Honeywell APU Maintenance Partnership
Dublin Aerospace has extended its Honeywell Aerospace Channel Partner Agreement covering maintenance of 131-9A and 131-9B APUs. The agreement allows Dublin Aerospace to continue providing Honeywell-approved overhaul, repair, modification and testing services for both APU types. The extension continues the longstanding maintenance partnership between Dublin Aerospace and Honeywell.

China’s Three Biggest Airlines Post Heavy First-Half Losses as Fuel Costs Rise
Air China, China Eastern and China Southern reported a combined first-half net loss of about 1.2 billion dollars. Jet fuel costs increased by around 35 to 38 percent across the three carriers, while revenue rose by about 10 percent at each airline as international travel strengthened. Summer typhoons also disrupted peak-season travel, adding uncertainty to the outlook for the second half of the year.
Kenya Airport Staff Strike Delays Thousands of Passengers
Flight delays at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport affected thousands of travellers as a go-slow strike by airport workers continued into its second day. The main union said negotiations were still ongoing.

The aircraft stopped climbing, entered an extended holding pattern over the English Channel and later continued towards Amsterdam after spending nearly two hours airborne.
Air Atlanta Europe Boeing 747 Diverts to Amsterdam After Departure from Liège
An Air Atlanta Europe Boeing 747-400 freighter, 9H-AKA, diverted to Amsterdam Schiphol after encountering an unspecified issue shortly after departing Liège for Kinshasa. The aircraft entered an extended holding pattern before continuing to Amsterdam, where it landed safely after nearly two hours airborne. The crew did not select emergency transponder code 7700, and the reason for the diversion has not been disclosed.
Airlink Stadium Flypast Prompts Safety Debate in Cape Town
Two Airlink Embraer jets performed a flypast over Cape Town’s DHL Stadium on 29 August ahead of the Springboks–All Blacks rugby Test. Flightradar24 analysis estimated the lead Embraer E195 passed around 12 to 14 metres above the stadium roof, prompting discussion over the low clearance.
Global Knafaim Leasing Completes A330-300 Transition to New European Lessee
Global Knafaim Leasing has completed the transition of a 2000-built Airbus A330-300 from Sunclass Airlines to a new European lessee. The aircraft was returned on 26 August 2026, with the follow-on lease and delivery to the new customer completed at the same time. Global Knafaim Leasing owns the airframe, while a Rolls-Royce group company holds the engine rights, with existing commercial arrangements updated for the new lease.
Jetstar Launches Australia’s First Low-Cost Nonstop Service to Sri Lanka
Jetstar has launched nonstop services between Melbourne and Colombo, marking the first low-cost direct link between Australia and Sri Lanka and the airline’s first route into South Asia. The year-round service will operate three times a week using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, adding more than 100,000 seats annually. The inaugural flight operated on 25 August 2026 with 271 passengers and 13 crew onboard.

Discover Airlines Retains Frankfurt–Shannon Service for Summer 2027
Discover Airlines will retain its once-weekly Frankfurt–Shannon service from April 2027 as part of its summer schedule. The airline will also launch Frankfurt–Glasgow six times weekly from 29 March, add services to Bristol and Inverness, and introduce twice-weekly Munich–Glasgow flights from 16 May. All of the announced routes will operate seasonally using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Dublin Excluded from Latest 2027 Transatlantic Route Announcements
Four US carriers have announced additional European services for 2027, with Dublin not included among the latest route additions. Alaska Airlines will launch Seattle–Athens and Seattle–Paris, while American Airlines will add Philadelphia services to Porto, Vienna and Reykjavik. Delta will begin daily Austin–Paris flights, while United will add new European destinations including Luxembourg, Ljubljana and Ibiza, alongside Washington Dulles–Milan and Denver–Paris services.
Cork Airport Progresses Mezzanine and Car Park Expansion Projects
Cork Airport’s new mezzanine floor remains on schedule for completion in December 2026, while the holiday blue car park extension is due to be completed by the end of October. CEO Niall McCarthy toured the construction sites with design partners AtkinsRéalis Ireland. Both projects remain on budget and on schedule and are intended to improve facilities for passengers across Munster.
Two Dublin Flights Cancelled Amid US East Coast Thunderstorms
Two overnight services from the US to Dublin were cancelled on 29 and 30 August due to severe thunderstorms and widespread FAA ground stops along the US East Coast. United Airlines cancelled more than 200 flights during the weekend disruption, with major airports including Newark, JFK, LaGuardia, Washington National, Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta and Miami affected. Airlines also extended flexible rebooking options through the end of August.
GMAS Expands HEMS Operations Across Ireland
Gulf Med Aviation Services is expanding its role in Ireland’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Service network, supporting the HSE from bases at Rathcoole and Sligo. Since beginning operations in January 2023, GMAS has undertaken around 500 missions annually. Mission numbers are expected to increase as the new Sligo base strengthens national coverage.
Aer Lingus Launches Major Sale Across More Than 100 Routes
Aer Lingus has launched a major sale covering millions of seats across more than 100 routes. North American fares are available from 199 euro each way, including services to Cancún, Nashville, Hartford, Pittsburgh, New York and Boston. The airline is also offering discounts of up to 30 percent on European and UK routes, including Marrakesh, Seville, Tromsø, Turin and the Canary Islands.

Aircraft Leasing Ireland Welcomes Government’s Renewed Finance Strategy
Aircraft Leasing Ireland has welcomed the Government’s Ireland for Finance Strategy 2026–2030, which recognises aircraft leasing as an important part of Ireland’s international financial services sector. Launched on 25 August, the strategy includes 31 actions focused on competitiveness, innovation, skills development and digital transformation. ALI said the framework supports Ireland’s position as a global centre for aircraft leasing and aviation finance.
Irish Air Corps Included in Proposed National Spitfire Monument in Southampton
The Irish Air Corps will be represented in a proposed National Spitfire Monument at Southampton’s Mayflower Park, recognising Ireland among the 30 nations that operated the aircraft during its service life. The monument will feature a stainless-steel Supermarine Spitfire at one-and-a-half times full size, with the Irish Air Corps roundel displayed around its base. The project highlights Ireland’s place in the wider operational history of one of aviation’s most recognised military aircraft.
