Icelandair A320ceo Operates First Service to Dublin Airport

Icelandair Airbus A320-232 TF-IAT, MSN 6489, operated its first service to Dublin Airport on 16 September 2026 on flights ICE416/7 between Keflavik and Dublin. The aircraft arrived at 11:43 am and departed at 1:27 pm local time. It first flew in February 2015, was delivered to Wizz Air in March 2015 and later joined Icelandair on 7 June 2026 in a two-class, 154-seat configuration. Icelandair currently operates seven Airbus aircraft and has further A320neo and A321LR additions planned, which would take its Airbus fleet to 20 aircraft. 

 

Air India Express Boeing 737NGs Returned to Lessor at Shannon Airport

Air India Express Boeing 737-8AL VT-TGG, MSN 39065, was ferried from Larnaca to Shannon on 13 August 2026 as part of its return to lessor Macquarie AirFinance. The aircraft was re-registered as 2-AOIF on 26 August. A second Boeing 737-8AL, VT-TGH, MSN 39066, was ferried from Larnaca to Shannon on 17 August for return to the same lessor. 

 

Shannon Airport Tops One Million Summer Passengers

More than one million passengers travelled through Shannon Airport between May and August 2026, representing an increase of 11.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Growth was supported by new services to Rome, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Poznań and Madrid, along with increased frequencies on existing routes. The airport also welcomed strong inbound traffic, including visitors travelling for tourism, golf and major sporting events. Shannon Airport Group said its focus now shifts to the winter season while continuing investment in the terminal and overall passenger experience.

 

Aer Lingus Completes Starlink Rollout on Airbus A321neo Fleet

Aer Lingus has completed the Starlink Wi-Fi rollout across all 14 of its Airbus A321neo aircraft, with EI-XLV among the latest to be equipped. The airline said connectivity satisfaction scores on Starlink-enabled aircraft are 27 points higher than across the rest of its fleet. Around 85 per cent of passengers connect during each flight, often using more than one device. On some transatlantic services, data usage has reached up to 950GB in a single crossing.

SX-NBA Airbus A321-251NX Delivered to Aegean Airlines 

Aegean Airlines has taken delivery of Airbus A321-251NX SX-NBA, MSN 13358, formerly D-AZWY. The aircraft routed from Hamburg to Paderborn on 28 September 2026. 

 

S2-STF ATR 72-600 Delivered to Air Astra 

Air Astra has taken delivery of ATR 72-600 S2-STF, MSN 1823, formerly F-WWEL. The aircraft routed from Toulouse to Dhaka via Cairo and Abu Dhabi between 28 and 30 September 2026.

FTAI Acquires 27 Boeing 737-700s from WestJet 

FTAI Aviation Ltd., formerly Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC, has acquired 27 Boeing 737-700s from WestJet. The transaction includes a sale-leaseback of 17 aircraft, which WestJet will continue to operate, and the purchase of 10 off-lease aircraft for FTAI’s Aerospace Products business. The 17 leased aircraft were acquired through FTAI’s 2026 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), the second investment vehicle established by its Strategic Capital business.

 

ATSG Agrees to Sell Omni Air International to OAI Holdings 

Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) has agreed to sell Omni Air International, a passenger charter and Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) operator, to OAI Holdings. The sale will allow ATSG to focus on air cargo, aircraft leasing and related aviation services. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal is not subject to a financing contingency. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 or early 2027, subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions.

 

TUI fly Opens Flight Simulators to 180 School Students 

Around 180 secondary school students will take part in a two-week aviation programme at TUI fly Belgium’s training centre in Zaventem. The Newton Room project is organised with Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia. Students will learn how pilots prepare flights, calculate routes and estimate flight times before applying their work in a professional flight simulator with guidance from a TUI fly pilot.

 

Arriving passengers face five-hour queues at Brussels Airport

Some passengers arriving at Brussels Airport from outside the Schengen area waited up to five hours at border control last week. The delays mainly affected travellers using staffed passport checks before entering Belgium. Brussels Airport said technical issues with the European Union Entry/Exit System (EES) contributed to the longer waiting times. The system records the entry and exit of eligible non-EU travellers, and processing can take longer when technical problems occur.

 

Airbus A350F Completes Maiden Flight 

The Airbus A350F freighter completed its first flight on 29 September 2026, marking the start of its flight-test campaign. The first test aircraft, MSN700, registration F-WXLD, departed Toulouse at 10:30 am Central European Time. The aircraft was scheduled to remain airborne for around four hours before returning to Toulouse. The programme represents Airbus’ entry into the large new-generation freighter market.

 

Around 500 Airbus A321neo Aircraft Affected by Quality Issue 

Airbus has identified a manufacturing-quality issue affecting around 500 A321neo aircraft. The problem involves inadequate surface protection on structural components within part of the fuselage. Airbus said there is no immediate safety risk and affected aircraft can continue operating. The issue has nevertheless raised manufacturing and supply-chain quality considerations.

 

Boeing 767 Marks 45 Years Since First Flight 

The Boeing 767 has marked 45 years since the 767-200 first flew from Paine Field in Everett, Washington, on 26 September 1981. The aircraft family went on to play an important role in the economics of long-distance air travel. Today, the 767 remains in service globally as a passenger aircraft, freighter and military tanker platform.

 

interCaribbean Airways Focuses Growth on New Opportunities 

interCaribbean Airways chief executive Trevor Sadler said the airline is focused on expanding where it sees market opportunities. Speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Latin America & Caribbean, he said the carrier currently serves 24 cities across 18 countries. Sadler added that further network growth is planned.

 

American Airlines Highlights Role of Data and AI in Operations 

American Airlines Managing Director for the Caribbean, Central and South America, Pascual Alvarez, said data and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly important to airline operations. Speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Latin America & Caribbean, he highlighted computer vision as a tool for improving turn times, reliability, productivity and safety. Alvarez said these applications are built from airline data that is analysed to determine the operational products and solutions required.

Ireland West Airport Hosts Tourism and Regional Development Seminar Today 

Ireland West Airport is hosting a seminar today at the Sláinte Café focused on the airport’s contribution to the western economy. The event runs from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm and brings together tourism and regional development stakeholders. Contributors include Mayo County Council, Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland and RED C Research. Ireland West Airport Chairman Arthur French will deliver the welcome address.

 

Angela Walsh Appointed Chair of Cork Airport Development Council 

Angela Walsh has been appointed Chair of the Cork Airport Development Council, becoming the first woman to lead the stakeholder body since it was established in 2013. Her appointment comes as daa progresses a multi-year capital development programme worth 200 million euros at Cork Airport. Walsh is founder and chief executive of FROSCH Ireland, chief executive of The Relocations Company and a former President of the Irish Travel Agents Association.

 

Dublin Airport Develops Digital Twin for Expansion Planning 

Dublin Airport is developing a digital twin of its campus using ArcGIS technology, providing a single view of infrastructure from water pipelines to airfield ground lights. The system will support a capital investment programme of between five and six billion euros from January 2027. The airport is targeting an increase in capacity from its current cap of 32 million passengers to 40 million a year. daa also plans to use the digital model to support a 51 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and its net-zero target for 2050.

 

Low-Cost Carriers Take Different Approaches to Fleet Strategy

Ryanair and Southwest Airlines have taken different approaches to future fleet composition. Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary has confirmed talks with Airbus about potentially expanding the 30-aircraft Lauda fleet towards 200 aircraft, while the wider group operates 647 aircraft and remains almost entirely Boeing. O’Leary has said cost per seat is the main priority when assessing aircraft types. Southwest, meanwhile, evaluated the Airbus A220 but decided against adding it to its all-Boeing fleet.

 

Dublin Airport Opens New Fast Track Security Facilities 

Dublin Airport has opened new Fast Track security facilities in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The facilities, powered by Grant Thornton, form part of daa’s wider programme of passenger service improvements. The investment is intended to provide travellers with greater choice and a more efficient airport experience.

 

Shannon Airport Nominated for Prestigious Digital Marketing Award

Shannon Airport’s “The Best Place to Fly From” campaign has been shortlisted in the Best in Class – Brand category at the Digital Media Awards 2026. The semi-animated campaign features two characters, Robin and Wren, and focuses on the airport’s passenger experience. The nomination follows Shannon Airport being ranked Ireland’s top airport brand for three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025 in the RED C Brand Reaction Index Ireland.

 

Open Cockpit Day Returns to Shannon Aviation Museum 

Shannon Aviation Museum will host its Open Cockpit Day on 24 October. The event will give visitors access to a range of historic aircraft and the opportunity to view military and civilian cockpits that are normally closed to the public. The programme is aimed at aviation enthusiasts and families interested in aircraft history and cockpit environments.
 

Avolon Agrees Sale of 33-Aircraft Portfolio to Lesha Bank 

Avolon has agreed to sell a portfolio of 33 commercial aircraft to Lesha Bank LLC. The aircraft are currently leased to 25 airlines worldwide. Following completion, Lesha Aviation Services will manage the portfolio, increasing Lesha Bank’s managed fleet to more than 75 aircraft. The transaction also extends the existing relationship between Avolon and Lesha Bank.

 

New Summer Intake Announced for Aircraft Mechanic Apprenticeships 

Ministers James Lawless and Marian Harkin have announced a second annual intake for Ireland’s aircraft mechanic apprenticeship programme. From 2027, the new summer schedule will run from May to October and accommodate 45 apprentices each year. Training will be delivered through Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board facilities in Shannon in partnership with Atlantic Aviation Group. The additional intake is designed to align training more closely with airline and maintenance, repair and overhaul operating schedules.

 

ICAO Green Airports Seminar 2026 to Take Place in Cairo 

The International Civil Aviation Organization will hold the ICAO Green Airports Seminar 2026 in Cairo on 29–30 October. The two-day event will bring together States, airport operators, airlines, air navigation service providers and other aviation stakeholders. Discussions will focus on green and climate-resilient airports and on translating outcomes from the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly into practical implementation.
