Air Nostrum Acquires Two Former CityJet CRJ1000s
Air Nostrum has added two former CityJet Mitsubishi CRJ1000 aircraft to its fleet as the Spanish regional carrier continues to evaluate its future fleet strategy. The aircraft are EI-HIA, MSN 19006, now registered EC-OTF, and EI-HID, MSN 19024, now registered EC-OTG. Both aircraft previously operated for Scandinavian Airlines under CityJet’s wet-lease agreement.
Emerald Airlines UK Transfers ATR72-600 to Emerald Airlines Ireland
Belfast City-based Emerald Airlines UK has transferred ATR72-212A(600) G-CMJN, msn 1339, named “St Caillín”, to sister company Emerald Airlines Ireland as EI-GZY. According to Flightradar24, the aircraft operated its last commercial service on 7 June as EIN3648/9 on the Birmingham sector. The following day, it positioned to Dublin as EAG71P.
Hainan Boosts Dublin-Beijing to Daily Service
Hainan Airlines will operate its Dublin-Beijing Capital International Airport service daily from 22 June. Dublin Airport announced the update on its company LinkedIn page, noting that the year-round route will offer daily flights this summer and strengthen long-haul connectivity between Ireland and China. The carrier operates 292-seat, two-class Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the route.

Iberia Launches Direct Madrid-Toronto Service
Iberia has launched its direct Madrid-Toronto service, with the inaugural flight recording a load factor of more than 95 percent. The new route will operate five times per week and offer more than 37,000 seats during the summer season. Through Madrid, passengers will be able to connect to 46 destinations across Spain and more than 60 destinations across Europe.
JMB Aviation Group Submits Bids for UPS MD-11Fs
JMB Aviation Group has submitted bids for four MD-11 freighters retired by UPS as it looks to expand widebody freighter capacity. The bids were submitted on 28 May and 10 June through its leasing subsidiary, South Aircraft Leasing. The company is awaiting UPS’ decision on the winning bid.

J.P. Morgan has highlighted growing divergence in airline performance across global markets. Jet2 Launches Flights and Holidays to Tunisia
Jet2 has announced the launch of flights and holidays to Tunisia for summer 2027. The UK tour operator and airline will operate to Tunisia from Birmingham, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted and Manchester between 1 May and 31 October 2027. The launch follows demand from customers and independent travel agents for a value-led sun destination offering culture, cuisine, history and beaches.
Lufthansa Technik Expands in the Philippines With New Maintenance Hub
Lufthansa Technik will invest a three-digit million-dollar sum to build a second aircraft maintenance facility in the Philippines. The new 157,000 square metre site will be located at Clark International Airport in Pampanga and will have capacity for up to nine widebody aircraft. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2028, with around 1,200 highly skilled jobs expected to be created.

The NATA Ground Handling Safety Symposium 2026 will focus exclusively on general and business aviation ground handling safety. The event will address key challenges facing the industry and is positioned as a dedicated forum for ground handling safety discussions. National Jet Express Grows Passenger Fleet With 13th Q400
National Jet Express has announced the arrival of its 13th De Havilland Q400 aircraft, with entry into service planned for 29 June 2026. The 76-seat aircraft, registered VH-8QE, will join NJE’s Perth base in support of continued FIFO growth. With the aircraft, NJE’s FIFO fleet will increase to 21 aircraft, comprising 13 Q400s and eight Embraer E190 jets.
Norse Atlantic Expands Thailand Winter Programme
Norse Atlantic Airways has announced a significant expansion of its Thailand programme for winter 2026/27. The airline will add capacity from the UK, Norway and Sweden in response to strong customer demand for travel to Southeast Asia. The expansion reinforces Thailand’s position as one of the most popular destinations across Norse Atlantic’s network.
Qantas to Launch Non-Stop Sydney-London Flights
Qantas will launch non-stop services between Sydney and London from October 2027, marking the first time the Kangaroo Route will be flown without stops from Australia’s east coast. The announcement coincides with the unveiling of the airline’s first Airbus A350-1000ULR in Qantas livery at Airbus’ manufacturing facility in Toulouse. The aircraft forms part of Project Sunrise.

Qatar Airways Group has restored its network to 85 per cent of pre-crisis levels and created two new executive roles to sharpen operations and deepen customer focus. The milestone was reached with the launch of the airline’s summer 2026 schedule, which includes more than 140 daily departures from Doha to over 160 destinations worldwide. The Group had set the 85 per cent recovery target earlier this year.
Setna iO Completes Purchase of A319-100 Airframe
Setna iO has completed the purchase of one Airbus A319-100 airframe, previously operated by easyJet. The aircraft is one of three ex-easyJet A319-100 airframes acquired in the transaction and forms part of Setna iO’s teardown pipeline expansion. It will be disassembled at ecube in St Athan, Wales, with components routed through SETNA’s repair network for piece-part repair and recertification.
US Budget Airline Model Faces Continued Pressure
The US budget airline model remains under pressure despite some carriers benefiting from Spirit’s bankruptcy. Breeze Airways, Frontier and Avelo are among the airlines positioned to gain from market shifts, but the wider low-cost model faces challenges beyond jet fuel prices. Major carriers such as Delta and United continue to use scale, loyalty programmes and premium services to compete, while longer US route lengths can make low-cost operations harder to sustain.

GAA and daa Create Sporting Welcome at Dublin Airport
The GAA and daa have partnered to provide passengers arriving at Dublin Airport with a new Irish sporting welcome. A permanent exhibition has been installed in Terminal 1 at Pier 3 arrivals, showcasing Gaelic games through county jerseys and imagery from football, hurling and camogie. The installation features the 34 jerseys of counties competing in the senior football and hurling championships.
Peter Bellew and Mark Breen to Advise on Castlelake EasyJet Bid
Castlelake has disclosed a €5.6 billion takeover bid for EasyJet, valuing the carrier at 625 pence per share. The bid follows three previous proposals that were rejected by EasyJet. Veteran Irish aviation executive Peter Bellew is partnering with Castlelake on compliance as part of the proposal.

A request for information has been issued for a review of aviation fuel transport and storage infrastructure into and within Ireland. Ryanair Extends Michael O’Leary CEO Contract to April 2032
Ryanair Holdings has agreed a contract under which Michael O’Leary will remain Group CEO until April 2032. The new contract follows months of discussion and engagement with the Group’s largest shareholders. It includes a modest annual salary, a capped annual bonus and a one-off share option linked to ambitious profit and share price targets.
Shannon Airport Group Publishes First Sustainability Report
The Shannon Airport Group has published its first annual Sustainability Report, outlining progress in environmental stewardship and setting targets through to 2028. Key achievements in 2025 include a 54 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from the 2018 baseline and a 37 per cent reduction in direct fossil fuel emissions. The Group also launched Ireland’s first on-airfield solar PV farm, which now supplies up to 20 per cent of the airport’s electricity needs.
Sligo Air Ambulance Expected to Be Fully Operational by September
The new air ambulance in the North West is expected to be fully operational by September. The aircraft, based at Sligo Airport, is due to launch on 1 July and will operate during daylight hours. Crews have been carrying out training exercises across the region, with the service expected to support faster local response times and patient transfers to specialist hospitals.

Thompson Aero Seating Targets £1 Billion Sales as Orders Grow
Portadown-based Thompson Aero Seating has reported strong revenue growth and a significant increase in profit, supported by demand for its premium business and first class aircraft seating products. Revenue increased by more than 30 per cent in 2025, while profit before tax rose to £20.9 million from £12.1 million in 2024. The company designs, engineers and manufactures aircraft seating in Northern Ireland.
