Icelandair A320ceo Operates First Service to Dublin Airport

Icelandair Airbus A320-232 TF-IAT, MSN 6489, operated its first service to Dublin Airport on 16 September 2026 on flights ICE416/7 between Keflavik and Dublin. The aircraft arrived at 11:43 am and departed at 1:27 pm local time. It first flew in February 2015, was delivered to Wizz Air in March 2015 and later joined Icelandair on 7 June 2026 in a two-class, 154-seat configuration. Icelandair currently operates seven Airbus aircraft and has additional A320neo and A321LR aircraft planned, which would bring its Airbus fleet to 20 aircraft. 

 

Air India Express Boeing 737NGs Returned to Lessor at Shannon Airport

Air India Express Boeing 737-8AL VT-TGG, MSN 39065, was ferried from Larnaca to Shannon on 13 August 2026 as part of its return to lessor Macquarie AirFinance. The aircraft was re-registered as 2-AOIF on 26 August. A second Boeing 737-8AL, VT-TGH, MSN 39066, was ferried from Larnaca to Shannon on 17 August for return to the same lessor. 

 

Shannon Airport Tops One Million Summer Passengers

More than one million passengers travelled through Shannon Airport between May and August 2026, representing an increase of 11.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Growth was supported by new services to Rome, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Poznań and Madrid, along with increased frequencies on existing routes. The airport also welcomed strong inbound traffic, including visitors travelling for tourism, golf and major sporting events. Shannon Airport Group said its focus now shifts to the winter season while continuing to invest in the terminal and the overall passenger experience.

 

Aer Lingus Completes Starlink Rollout on Airbus A321neo Fleet

Aer Lingus has completed the Starlink Wi-Fi rollout across all 14 of its Airbus A321neo aircraft, with EI-XLV among the latest to be equipped. The airline said connectivity satisfaction scores on Starlink-enabled aircraft are 27 points higher than across the rest of its fleet. Around 85 per cent of passengers connect during each flight, often using more than one device. On some transatlantic services, data usage has reached up to 950GB in a single crossing.

B-50031 Airbus A320-271N Delivered to Tigerair Taiwan 

Tigerair Taiwan has taken delivery of Airbus A320-271N B-50031, MSN 13167, formerly F-WWDG. The aircraft was routed from Toulouse to Taipei via Riyadh and Bangkok Don Mueang between 30 September and 2 October 2026.

 

B-KNA Airbus A320-251N Delivered to HK Express 

HK Express has taken delivery of Airbus A320-251N B-KNA, MSN 13422, formerly F-WMTK. The aircraft was routed from Toulouse to Hong Kong via Tashkent between 30 September and 1 October 2026.

 

N816VL Boeing 737-85R Delivered to Avelo Airlines 

Avelo Airlines has taken delivery of Boeing 737-85R N816VL, MSN 42799, formerly OE-LAR. The aircraft was routed from Lourdes to Bangor via Keflavik on 1 October 2026.

Pegasus Completes Acquisition of Czech Airlines and Smartwings 

Pegasus Airlines has completed its acquisition of Czech Airlines and the Smartwings Group after securing regulatory approvals and meeting closing conditions. The deal expands Pegasus’ presence in Central and Eastern Europe and combines its low-cost network with Smartwings’ leisure operations and tour operator partnerships. The combined fleet exceeds 175 aircraft, with firm orders for a further 140.
 

Emirates Launches Daily Airbus A350 Service to Helsinki 

Emirates launched its first service to Helsinki on 1 October, introducing a daily Airbus A350 connection from Dubai. The inaugural flight, EK167, departed Dubai at 7:30 am with a near-full passenger and cargo load. UAE and Finnish officials, business representatives and media were also aboard the first service.

 

Air France-KLM and Lufthansa Submit Final Bids for TAP Stake 

Air France-KLM and Lufthansa have submitted final bids to acquire a 44.9 per cent stake in TAP Air Portugal. State holding company Parpública will now assess both proposals and report its findings to the ministers responsible for finance and air transport. The Portuguese government will then have 15 days to take a position.

 

AnimaWings Files for Insolvency as Airbus A220 Fleet Remains Grounded 

Romanian carrier AnimaWings has filed for insolvency as it seeks to restructure following fleet and cost pressures. The airline said all six of its Airbus A220-300 aircraft are currently non-operational, leaving two Airbus A320s available for service. Persistent technical issues, high fuel costs, and resulting operational disruption have strained its cash reserves.

 

Boeing Receives First Full-Rate Production Order for MH-139A Grey Wolf 

Boeing has received an order for four MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters, marking the programme’s first full-rate production award. The contract follows the US Air Force’s declaration of initial operational capability earlier in 2026. It increases the number of Grey Wolf helicopters under contract to 42, with 27 aircraft delivered to date.

 

Flydubai Confirms Cockpit Incident on Flight FZ1073

Flydubai has confirmed a cockpit altercation aboard flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on 30 September. The aircraft diverted safely to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, with all passengers accounted for. Additional flydubai crew travelling on board helped secure the aircraft and complete the diversion, while both operating pilots were taken to hospital with injuries. India's embassy in Saudi Arabia later reported the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, as stable.

 

New Measures Introduced to Reduce Aircraft Noise over Northern Brussels 

Belgian Federal Mobility Minister Jean-Luc Crucke has announced two new measures for aircraft arriving at Brussels Airport’s runway 07L using the satellite-based RNP 07L approach. Under the revised procedure, aircraft will remain at a higher altitude for longer before entering Brussels airspace and then make a steeper descent. Arrivals will also follow a more direct path, reducing the time spent over populated areas. The measures took effect on 1 October and are intended to reduce noise for communities beneath the approach path.

 

Matthias Spohr Takes Over as Eurowings Chief Operating Officer 

Matthias Spohr joined the Eurowings Executive Board as chief operating officer on 1 October 2026, succeeding Edi Wolfensberger. Spohr previously served as managing director of Lufthansa Aviation Training. He will oversee flight, crew and ground operations, operational control, safety, security, compliance, crew training and technical fleet management, joining chief executive Max Kownatzki and chief financial officer Kai Duve on the three-member board.

 

Cosmos Aviation Capital Completes First Transaction with Croatia Airlines 

Cosmos Aviation Capital has completed its first transaction with Croatia Airlines by acquiring and leasing back a new Pratt & Whitney PW1500G-series spare engine. The engine will support Croatia Airlines’ Airbus A220 fleet. RESIDCO provided the equity for the acquisition, while Cosmos originated the transaction and will act as lease manager and servicer.

 

Altavair Appoints Matthew Hoesley as Chief Executive Officer 

Altavair has appointed Matthew Hoesley as chief executive officer and president from 1 January 2027 as part of a planned leadership transition. Stephen Rimmer, who has led the aircraft leasing and financing business since its founding in 2003, will become executive chairman. Rimmer co-founded the company as Guggenheim Aviation Partners and oversaw its transition to Altavair and expansion across Seattle, Dublin, London and Singapore.

 

Taiyo Oil Calls for Shared-Cost Framework to Support SAF Adoption 

Taiyo Oil deputy executive officer Jun Shinmachi said wider adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) will require a clearer system for sharing costs across the industry. Speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia, he said airlines currently show limited willingness to pay a premium for carbon-neutral fuel. Shinmachi argued that governments should help create a more equitable framework so stakeholders share the additional cost of SAF fairly.

 

Boeing Highlights Multiple Paths to Aviation Sustainability 

Boeing’s Head of Sustainability for Asia-Pacific, Kimberly Camrass, said aviation will need a combination of measures to improve sustainability. Speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia, she identified fleet renewal as an important factor alongside air traffic management, operational efficiency, sustainable aviation fuel, market-based measures and technology improvements. She added that the industry already has tools available to make progress.

 

Japan Airlines Highlights Aviation’s Role in National Infrastructure 

Japan Airlines chief executive Mitsuko Tottori said air travel remains a key part of Japan’s national infrastructure. She noted that inbound travel has recovered strongly since the pandemic, while outbound travel remains below pre-pandemic levels due to the weaker yen, inflation and fuel surcharges. Inbound tourism spending is now Japan’s second-largest export category after the automotive industry.

 

Retired Airbus A340s Repurposed for Strasbourg Stadium 

Parts from 30 decommissioned Airbus A340 aircraft are being reused in the redevelopment of Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg. Aircraft aluminium has been re-engineered into 196 panels covering around 4,050 square metres of the stadium’s south-facing façade. The panels will act as a fixed sunshade designed to reduce solar heat gain inside the building.

 

TSA Introduces Standing Requirement for Document-Check Officers 

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is removing chairs from Travel Document Checker positions at US airport checkpoints. Officers checking passenger identification and boarding passes are now expected to remain standing. The nationwide change was confirmed on 29 September, while AFGE TSA Council 100 said most commercial airports had already removed chairs.
 

Airlines Seek Support for Midway Atoll Diversion Airport 

Several airlines are urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to preserve Henderson Field on Midway Atoll as an emergency diversion airport. The airport has no scheduled commercial passenger services but supports transpacific operations between the Americas, Hawaii and Asia. Its continued role may depend on upgrades estimated to cost more than 100 million US dollars.
 

Lufthansa Prepares to Retire Final Airbus A340-600 

Lufthansa plans to operate its final Airbus A340-600 services on 18 October, with flights from Frankfurt to New York JFK and Washington Dulles. The airline announced the retirement in April as part of accelerated fleet and capacity measures linked to labour disputes and higher aviation fuel costs. Lufthansa had four A340-600s at the time and has operated 24 of the type since 2003.

Belfast City Airport Continues as Main Sponsor of 37th Cinemagic Festival 

Belfast City Airport is continuing its long-running partnership with Cinemagic as main sponsor of the 37th International Film Festival for Young People. The festival will run throughout October, and feature films, screenings, workshops, and other creative activities. Children from several of the airport’s adopted schools are also expected to take part.

 

IATA to Hold Joint Finance and Passenger Symposiums in Macao 

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) will hold its World Finance Symposium and World Passenger Symposium together in Macao on 28 and 29 October 2026. Discussions will cover artificial intelligence, digital payments, biometric identity and airline retail modernisation under the theme “From Vision to Value: The New Era of Air Travel”. Speakers will include executives from Hainan Airlines, Lufthansa Group, Air India, Kenya Airways and Air France-KLM.

 

Cathay Pacific extends cancellation of Hong Kong-Dubai passenger flights

Cathay Pacific has extended the suspension of passenger services from Hong Kong to Dubai and Riyadh until at least 1 February 2027. The airline had previously planned to resume the routes on 25 and 26 October 2026. Cathay Cargo’s freight service to Riyadh also remains postponed. Passenger and cargo operations to both cities were first suspended on 28 February.

 

Lufthansa Expects Additional Jet Fuel Costs to Exceed 1.5 Billion Euros 

Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr said the group’s additional jet fuel costs this year are expected to exceed the 1.5 billion euros forecast in August. The increase comes as higher oil prices continue to affect airline operating costs. Fuel currently accounts for around 30 to 40 per cent of airline costs, and other carriers, including Ryanair, are also highlighting the impact of elevated prices.
 

Wizz Air Retains Belgrade Base for Winter 2026/27 

Wizz Air will maintain its Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport base for the 2026/27 winter season after Serbia postponed revised rules governing foreign airlines. Government Gazette 93/2026 delays implementation of the amendments until 28 March 2027. Wizz Air had previously warned that the regulations could affect its Belgrade operation and had planned to make a final decision by late September.

 

Dublin-Based Jackson Square Joins airBaltic Creditors’ Committee 

A five-member unsecured creditors’ committee has been formed as part of airBaltic’s Chapter 11 restructuring in the United States. Members include Airbus Canada, Dublin-based Jackson Square Aviation Ireland Limited, AVAP Leasing Europe VI, AS Tallinna Lennujaam and JSC Lithuanian Airports. The committee will represent unsecured creditors during the restructuring process, with the first creditors’ meeting scheduled for 22 October 2026.
 

Airbus Announces Board of Directors Changes 

René Obermann has stepped down from the Airbus Board of Directors to focus on his role as Non-Executive Director and incoming Chairman of SAP’s Supervisory Board. Airbus has co-opted ASML chief executive Christophe Fouquet to complete Obermann’s remaining term. Fouquet is expected to seek a three-year mandate at the 2027 Annual General Meeting.

 

Ryanair Expands Winter 2026 Milan Schedule 

Ryanair will offer 8.7 million winter seats across Milan Bergamo and Malpensa, representing an 11 per cent increase. Malpensa capacity will increase by 27 per cent, adding more than 640,000 seats, while the wider Milan network will cover 125 routes, including 10 new winter services. Two additional aircraft will be based at Bergamo, representing an extra investment of 200 million US dollars. Ryanair’s Milan-based fleet will reach 33 aircraft, representing a total investment of 3.3 billion US dollars and supporting more than 16,200 local jobs.
 

Cork Airport Handles More Than 360,000 Passengers in August 

Cork Airport welcomed 360,535 passengers in August, an increase of 21 per cent compared with August 2019. Passenger numbers since the start of the year reached 2.34 million, up 30 per cent on pre-COVID levels but down 2 per cent compared with 2025. UK provincial traffic increased by 5 per cent, including increases of 36 per cent on Aer Lingus Regional’s Glasgow route and 35 per cent on Ryanair’s Liverpool service. Passenger numbers also increased by 74 per cent on Milan Bergamo, 43 per cent on Amsterdam and 12 per cent on Paris Charles de Gaulle.

 

Airlines Respond to IAA Draft on Dublin Airport Charges 

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has published submissions received on its Draft Determination covering maximum airport charges at Dublin Airport from 2027 to 2031. The responses include views from airlines, industry organisations and other stakeholders on the airport’s future funding and development. The IAA will review the submissions before issuing its Final Determination by the end of 2026.

 

Shannon Records Strong Summer Passenger Growth

Shannon Airport passenger traffic increased by 8.8 per cent in August compared with the same month in 2025, the strongest increase among Ireland’s major airports. Between May and August, passenger numbers increased by 11.5 per cent, making Shannon the fastest-growing major Irish airport over the summer period. More than one million passengers used the airport during those four months, with work underway to support further growth.
 

City of Derry Airport Unveils Artwork Honouring Amelia Earhart 

A new artwork celebrating Amelia Earhart has been unveiled in the Amelia Earhart Lounge at City of Derry Airport. The project involved the Amelia Earhart Legacy Association, Derry-Shrove artist Eileen McLaughlin of Emick Creative and Geraldine Mullan of the Mullan Hope Centre. The artwork developed from a collaboration marking what would have been the birthday of Geraldine Mullan’s late daughter, Amelia, and the unveiling also featured the restored 1951 Leyland Tiger known as The Little Red Bus.
