United to Launch A321XLR Washington Dulles–Dublin Service from December

United Airlines will introduce its Airbus A321XLR on international services from Washington Dulles to Dublin and Amsterdam from 1–2 December, marking the aircraft’s entry into international service. The Dublin launch forms part of United’s largest-ever international network expansion, which will add 10 new international cities and three additional routes across Europe and Asia in summer 2027. Dublin Airport said the deployment reflects sustained transatlantic demand and will support greater connectivity between Ireland and North America.

ASL Aviation Holdings Adds Two Boeing 747-400ERFs Through Acquisitions

Dublin-based ASL Aviation Holdings has acquired two Boeing 747-400ERF freighters that were previously operated within the group under operating lease. The aircraft, MSN 33516 (OE-IFB) and MSN 33945 (OE-IFD), are operated by ASL Airlines Belgium and form part of the group’s long-haul freighter fleet. The acquisitions expand ASL’s owned aircraft portfolio as the group continues developing its international air cargo platform.

Dublin Aerospace Extends Honeywell APU Maintenance Partnership

Dublin Aerospace has extended its Honeywell Aerospace Channel Partner Agreement covering maintenance of 131-9A and 131-9B APUs. The agreement allows Dublin Aerospace to continue providing Honeywell-approved overhaul, repair, modification and testing services for both APU types. The extension continues the longstanding maintenance partnership between Dublin Aerospace and Honeywell.

US Airlines Seek Further China and Cuba Route Waiver Extensions

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are seeking another extension of temporary route waivers as demand to China remains weak. The three carriers are requesting relief covering 79 of their combined 129 weekly China frequencies, while Southwest is also involved in requests for greater flexibility on Cuba services.

Kenya Airways CEO Resigns After Eight Months

Kenya Airways Acting Group Managing Director and CEO George Kamal is stepping down after eight months in the role, citing a family compassionate situation. He will remain with the airline during a 30-day transition period, with his formal departure scheduled for 30 September.

FAA Certifies Washington Manassas Airport for Scheduled Airline Service

The FAA has issued a Part 139 operating certificate to Washington Manassas Airport in northern Virginia, clearing the final regulatory step needed for scheduled airline service. The airport expects commercial flights to begin by late 2027, potentially with low-cost carriers. The approval is the first Part 139 certificate issued to a Virginia airport in 53 years.

Air Canada Announces Largest-Ever Intercontinental Expansion for Summer 2027

Air Canada will add seven international routes and five new destinations in summer 2027 as it expands across Europe, Asia and Latin America. New services include Vancouver–Guangzhou, Toronto–Oslo, Toronto–Shannon, Toronto–Nice, Montréal–Basel-Mulhouse and Montréal–Dubrovnik. The expansion will use Boeing 787, Airbus A321XLR and Airbus A330-300 aircraft across a mix of year-round and seasonal routes.

LOT Launches Seasonal Warsaw–Turin Service for Winter 2027

LOT Polish Airlines will operate a seasonal nonstop service between Warsaw and Turin every Saturday from 16 January to 27 March 2027. The route will use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with a scheduled flight time of around two hours and 15 minutes in each direction.

Air Canada to Launch First Nonstop Canada–Norway Service

Air Canada will launch a seasonal nonstop service between Toronto and Oslo on 3 June 2027, creating the first direct air link between Canada and Norway. The route will operate four times weekly until late October using a 182-seat Airbus A321XLR.

airBaltic Agrees Terms for Up to 257 Million Euro in Interim Financing

airBaltic has agreed terms with existing bondholders and third-party finance providers for up to 257 million euro in interim financing as it continues its restructuring programme. The funding remains subject to bondholder and shareholder approval, with 180 million euro expected to become available first. A further 77 million euro would be released once additional conditions are met.

ANA Holdings Orders Eight Additional Embraer E190-E2s

ANA Holdings has ordered eight additional Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, increasing its total firm order for the type from 15 to 23 aircraft. The group also retains options for a further five E190-E2s. ANA said the additional order will support the expansion of its regional network in Japan while helping reduce operating costs and environmental impact.

Embraer Delivers 2,000th E-Jet

Embraer has delivered its 2,000th E-Jet, an E195-E2 handed over to Azul Linhas Aéreas. Since entering service in 2004, the E-Jet family has grown to operate with more than 90 airlines across over 60 countries. The fleet has accumulated around 48 million flight hours and carried more than 2.85 billion passengers worldwide.

Emirates A350s to Feature Electrically Powered Premium Economy Seats

Emirates plans to introduce electrically powered Premium Economy seats on newly delivered Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The new design will include full-height adjustable privacy screens between seats, operated through the seat controls. The A350 Premium Economy cabin will retain a 2-3-2 layout with 28 seats, offering up to 39 inches of pitch and a cradle-style recline designed not to intrude on the row behind.

British Airways Launches Fare Sale from Ireland

British Airways has launched a sale on fares from Ireland to destinations across North America, Europe and other international markets. Offers are available in World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club World and Club Europe. Bookings are open until 29 September 2026 for travel up to May 2027 through British Airways and Iberia booking channels.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg to Speak at Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference

Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg will speak at the Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference on 16 September. The appearance forms part of Boeing’s engagement with the investment community and may include updates on the company’s performance, strategy and outlook. A webcast and transcript will be available through Boeing’s investor website.

Virgin Atlantic Launches Direct Heathrow–Phuket Service

Virgin Atlantic will launch direct flights between London Heathrow and Phuket from 18 October, giving travellers from Shannon and Cork easier access to Thailand through Heathrow connections. The route removes the need for an additional intermediate stop beyond London for Irish passengers using regional airport connections. Shannon and Cork customers will also gain broader access to Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul network through Heathrow.

EU Proposes Tighter State Aid Rules for Regional Airports

The European Commission has proposed stricter rules on public funding for regional airports as part of an overhaul of its Aviation State Aid Guidelines. The changes are intended to support fair competition while aligning public spending with EU decarbonisation goals and the post-pandemic aviation market. The revised rules are currently under consultation and are expected to take effect in the first quarter of 2027.

Aer Lingus Regional Launches UK Seat Sale from Belfast City Airport

Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Emerald Airlines, is offering up to 30 percent off flights from Belfast City Airport across its UK network. The sale runs until 17 September, with discounted travel available between 15 September and 19 March. The carrier connects Belfast City with destinations across Great Britain, providing options for both business and leisure travel.

Air Canada Announces New Direct Shannon–Toronto Route

Air Canada will launch a new nonstop service between Shannon and Toronto on 10 June 2027, operating three times weekly until 3 October. The route will use the Airbus A321XLR and will be the only direct connection between Shannon and Canada. Through Toronto, passengers will have onward access to more than 150 destinations across Canada, the US, Mexico and South America.

Shannon Chamber Welcomes New Toronto–Shannon Connectivity

Shannon Chamber has welcomed Air Canada’s new direct Toronto–Shannon service, describing it as an important milestone for the airport and the wider region. The Chamber said the route will strengthen international connectivity and support business, tourism, education and investment links between Ireland and Canada. It also expects the service to create new opportunities for companies in the Shannon region looking to expand commercial ties with the Canadian market.

New Channel 4 Series Showcases Ireland’s Literary Tourism Appeal

Tourism Ireland has co-produced a new Channel 4 travel series, Sandi’s Ireland: A Literary Journey, which began airing in Great Britain on 3 September. The programme features Dublin, Sligo, Edgeworthstown, Monaghan, Belfast and Bellaghy, exploring the places and landscapes linked to Ireland’s literary heritage. The series forms part of Tourism Ireland’s efforts to promote the island to British audiences through culture, storytelling and destination appeal.

IAA Publishes Final Single European Sky RP4 Performance Plan

The Irish Aviation Authority has published Ireland’s final RP4 Performance Plan for the Single European Sky framework, covering 2025 to 2029. The plan applies to en route air navigation services and terminal services at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports. It allows for 1.06 billion euro to be collected through air navigation charges over five years, while AirNav Ireland could face rebates of up to 4 percent if staffing targets for controllers and engineers are not met.

IAA Survey Finds Increased Awareness of Irish Drone Regulations

An Irish Aviation Authority survey found that 40 per cent of respondents understand the requirements for drone operators in Ireland, up from 30 per cent last year. More than 90 per cent have at least some awareness that flying drones near airports or restricted areas is legally restricted. The survey also found that 22 per cent of people have felt uneasy when seeing a drone nearby.

CityJet Completes Transition to All-CRJ900 Fleet

Irish ACMI carrier CityJet has completed its transition to an all-CRJ900 fleet after phasing out its final two CRJ1000ER aircraft. The airline now operates 18 CRJ900s, deployed primarily on behalf of SAS under a long-term ACMI agreement based in Copenhagen. The two retired CRJ1000ERs, EI-HIB and EI-HIE, were ferried to Maastricht in August for return to their lessors.
