Dublin Aerospace Secures Long-Term Agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital

Dublin Aerospace has entered into a new long-term agreement with Dublin-based aircraft lessor SMBC Aviation Capital, under which a dedicated base maintenance slot will be reserved at Dublin Aerospace. The arrangement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies and provides SMBC Aviation Capital with dedicated maintenance capacity. The agreement also reflects continued demand for reliable base maintenance support and strengthens long-term planning for aircraft maintenance activity in Dublin.

 

Aer Lingus and Bradley International Airport Celebrate 10-Year Milestone

Aer Lingus and Bradley International Airport marked 10 years of the direct Dublin–Bradley service on 28 September 2026, recognising a decade of connectivity between Ireland and the New England region. The route was launched in September 2016 with a daily service between Dublin and Bradley International Airport near Hartford, Connecticut. At launch, Aer Lingus operated the route using two-class Boeing 757-200(ER) aircraft wet-leased from ASL Aviation Ireland. The milestone highlights the long-term importance of the connection in supporting transatlantic access between Ireland and the northeastern United States.

 

Ethiopian Takes Delivery of Two Boeing 737 MAXs via Dublin

Ethiopian Airlines has added two Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet as part of its ongoing fleet modernisation and capacity expansion programme. One of the aircraft, ET-BCT, Boeing 737-8 c/n 43583, was delivered from Boeing Field via Dublin before continuing to Addis Ababa between 19 and 20 September 2026. The deliveries add further new-generation narrowbody capacity to Ethiopian’s fleet and support the carrier’s wider renewal strategy.

HZ-ASBC Airbus A321-253NY Saudia

HZ-ASBC, an Airbus A321-253NY c/n 13152 for Saudia, was ferried from Toulouse to Jeddah on delivery between 5 and 6 October 2026. The aircraft was previously registered F-WWAF and adds further new-generation narrowbody capacity to the carrier’s fleet.

 

N816VL Boeing 737-85R Avelo Airlines

N816VL, a Boeing 737-85R, c/n 42799, for Avelo Airlines was delivered to Bangor on 3 October 2026. The aircraft was previously registered OE-LAR, marking its transition to the US carrier.

Riyadh Air Opens Bookings for Jakarta Service from November 

Riyadh Air has opened bookings for a new nonstop service between Riyadh and Jakarta, starting on 16 November 2026. The route will operate three times a week with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, making Jakarta the airline’s 16th destination available for booking. Flights will depart Riyadh at 10:50 pm and arrive at Soekarno–Hatta Airport at 12:00 pm the following day. The return service will leave Jakarta at 3:00 pm and arrive in Riyadh at 8:15 pm, with all times local.
 

AEGEAN to Launch Athens–Damascus Service in December 

AEGEAN will begin direct flights between Athens and Damascus on 2 December 2026, adding another destination to its Middle Eastern network. The winter service will operate up to four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The airline is also considering direct services to Tripoli and Benghazi from May 2027, subject to completing the necessary assessments and regulatory procedures.

 

Icelandair Posts Record September Load Factor Despite Lower Passenger Numbers

Icelandair carried 466,000 passengers in September 2026, a decrease of 3 per cent year-on-year. Capacity decreased by 8 per cent, which helped increase the load factor by 3.2 percentage points to a September record of 84.9 per cent. Yield increased by 14 per cent to 10.30 US cents. Passenger traffic to Iceland increased by 7 per cent and outbound traffic increased by 11 per cent, while connecting traffic decreased by 15 per cent. Demand was particularly strong for Southern Europe and Greenland.
 

Aeroméxico Carries 1.85 Million Passengers in September 

Aeroméxico carried 1.853 million passengers in September 2026. Capacity increased by 3.4 per cent year-on-year, while passenger demand increased by 3.6 per cent, slightly outpacing capacity growth. This pushed load factor up by 0.1 percentage points to 87.1 per cent. The airline continued shifting capacity towards key international markets.

 

Volaris Carries 2.5 Million Passengers as International Traffic Strengthens 

Volaris carried 2.5 million passengers in September 2026, with international traffic increasing by 14 per cent. Capacity increased by 1.9 per cent year-on-year, while passenger demand increased by 3.1 per cent. As demand grew faster than capacity, load factor increased by one percentage point to 84.4 per cent.

 

AerSale Leases Boeing 757-200PCF to Mister Air for Cargo Operations 

AerSale has leased a Boeing 757-200PCF to Romanian cargo operator Mister Air Transport to support the launch of the airline’s own flight operations. The freighter is expected to enter revenue service during October 2026. Mister Air will operate it under its Romanian Air Operator Certificate with its own crews, replacing its previous model of sourcing cargo capacity through charter arrangements with other airlines.
 

SR Technics Introduces Bridgestone Digital Technology Across Spanish Operations 

SR Technics has completed the rollout of Bridgestone’s easytrack solution, becoming the first MRO provider to adopt the technology. The implementation follows a two-year joint project and builds on a partnership between SR Technics Spain and Bridgestone dating back to 1999. The system replaces largely manual processes with a digital workflow covering logistics, planning and inventory management. Following its introduction in Mallorca, the technology was expanded to Madrid and is now integrated across stores and wheel shop operations at both locations.

 

First Class Air Expands MRO Capabilities Through Vertical Aerospace Investment 

First Class Air has invested in and partnered with Vertical Aerospace, an MRO provider based in Bristow, Oklahoma, expanding its capabilities in complex structural repair, engineering and fabricated-part manufacturing. The investment adds technical capacity and resources to support complex aircraft structures and components. Vertical Aerospace will continue operating from its 226,000-square-foot Bristow facility under founder and General Manager Tray Siegfried.

 

Singapore Airlines to Close SilverKris Lounge at Taiwan Taoyuan Airport 

Singapore Airlines will close its SilverKris Lounge at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport from 1 November 2026 due to redevelopment works at the airport. Eligible business class passengers, PPS Club members and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members travelling on Singapore Airlines-operated services will instead be offered access to the Plaza Premium Lounge during the closure.

Norwegian Group Carries 2.8 Million Passengers in September 

Norwegian Group carried 2.8 million passengers in September 2026, including 2.4 million with Norwegian and 394,000 with Widerøe. Norwegian’s passenger traffic increased by 7 per cent year-on-year, while capacity increased by 6 per cent, helping load factor increase by 0.6 percentage points to 87.1 per cent. The airline completed 99.4 per cent of scheduled flights and recorded departure punctuality of 84.3 per cent while operating an average of 94 aircraft. Norwegian also received two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on 30 September, marking its 200th and 201st aircraft deliveries.

 

British Airways Chicago-Bound Flight Returns to Heathrow Following Technical Issue 

British Airways flight BA295 from London Heathrow to Chicago returned to Heathrow on 5 October following a technical issue. Flight tracking data showed Boeing 777-200 G-VIIA descending from around 36,000 feet to 9,000 feet over approximately ten minutes, around half an hour after departure. The aircraft subsequently turned back over Ireland, remained airborne for several hours and landed safely at Heathrow later that evening.

 

daa Car Park Earnings Reach 1.73 Million Euros per Week 

Airport operator daa generated 90 million euros from car parking in 2025, equivalent to around 1.73 million euros per week. The figure represented a 3.4 per cent increase on 2024 and covered parking operations across Dublin and Cork airports. daa manages 27,049 public short- and long-term spaces, with each space generating an average of roughly 3,330 euros during the year. Parking accounted for nearly 8 per cent of daa’s total 2025 group turnover of 1.18 billion euros.

 

Irish Aviation Industry Awards 2026 Shortlist Revealed 

The shortlist for the 2026 Irish Aviation Industry Awards has been announced, with winners due to be revealed at the official Awards Gala on 3 December at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin Airport. Shortlisted organisations span categories including Aircraft Engineering and Maintenance, Passenger Experience, Aircraft Leasing Company of the Year, Emerging Aviation Technology, Aviation Innovation, Best Use of Technology and Aviation Academic Education.

 

Shannon Airport Secures Three National Award Nominations 

Shannon Airport has secured three national award nominations, including two categories at the 2026 Aviation Industry Awards and a separate Digital Media Awards nomination. The airport is shortlisted for Green Impact and Passenger Experience, reflecting its work in environmental performance and passenger service. Sustainability initiatives highlighted include Ireland’s first on-airfield solar PV farm, a 54 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from a 2018 baseline and the electrification of half of the airport’s vehicle fleet.

 

Ireland West Airport Highlights Regional Partnership and Growth 

Ireland West Airport brought together representatives from seven local authority partners, tourism agencies and regional stakeholders on 29 September for an event focused on tourism, connectivity and economic development across the West and Northwest of Ireland. Participants included Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim and Donegal County Councils; Galway County Council; Galway City Council; Tourism Ireland; and Fáilte Ireland. Held during the airport’s 40th anniversary year, the event focused on strengthening regional collaboration and identifying further growth opportunities.

 

British Airways Confirms New Lounge for Heathrow Terminal 5 C Gates 

British Airways has announced plans for a new lounge at the Terminal 5 C Gates at London Heathrow as part of a wider programme to upgrade its Heathrow lounge portfolio. The investment also includes a complete redevelopment of the Terminal 5 Arrivals lounge and a new First check-in experience in Terminal 3 in collaboration with American Airlines. The programme follows recent lounge openings and refurbishments in Miami, Glasgow, Seattle and Washington, with further work underway in Boston and New York Newark and additional refreshes planned for Geneva and San Francisco next year.

 

Aquila Air Capital Appoints David Crull as Chief Financial Officer 

Ireland-based engine lessor Aquila Air Capital has appointed David Crull as Chief Financial Officer. Aquila is backed by funds managed by global alternative asset manager Wafra Inc. Crull brings more than 25 years of experience across airlines, the aviation aftermarket and aircraft leasing, and joins the leadership team with experience in both financial and operational management.

 

KLM Cityhopper Pilots New Sustainability Initiatives on Amsterdam–Dublin Route 

KLM and KLM Cityhopper took part in The Aviation Challenge at the end of September, using the Amsterdam–Dublin route to test new ideas to improve aviation sustainability. The SkyTeam initiative brings airlines together to trial solutions in real-world operations and share learnings across the industry. The 2026 edition, themed “Collective Momentum”, focuses on collaboration between airlines, passengers, crew, airports and partners to support further progress on sustainability.

 

Ryanair Updates Outlook for Boeing 737 MAX 10 Deliveries 

Ryanair has revised its delivery schedule for the first 15 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, now planned for delivery between January and May 2027. The airline expects one aircraft in January, followed by three in February, four in March, four in April and three in May. Five aircraft are set to be based in Dublin and ten at London Stansted, initially supporting operations from the airline’s two largest MRO bases. The new aircraft are expected to add around 2 to 3 per cent capacity in summer 2027 while supporting the gradual retirement of Ryanair’s Boeing 737-800 fleet.
