Dublin Aerospace Secures Long-Term Agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital
Dublin Aerospace has entered into a new long-term agreement with Dublin-based aircraft lessor SMBC Aviation Capital, under which a dedicated base maintenance slot. The arrangement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies and provides SMBC Aviation Capital with dedicated maintenance capacity. The agreement also reflects continued demand for reliable base maintenance support and strengthens long-term planning for aircraft maintenance activity in Dublin.
Aer Lingus and Bradley International Airport Celebrate 10-Year Milestone
Aer Lingus and Bradley International Airport marked 10 years of the direct Dublin–Bradley service on 28 September 2026, recognising a decade of connectivity between Ireland and the New England region. The route was launched in September 2016 with a daily service between Dublin and Bradley International Airport near Hartford, Connecticut. At launch, Aer Lingus operated the route using two-class Boeing 757-200(ER) aircraft wet-leased from ASL Aviation Ireland. The milestone highlights the long-term importance of the connection in supporting transatlantic access between Ireland and the northeastern United States.
Ethiopian Takes Delivery of Two Boeing 737 MAXs via Dublin
Ethiopian Airlines has added two Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet as part of its ongoing fleet modernisation and capacity expansion programme. One of the aircraft, ET-BCT, Boeing 737-8 c/n 43583, was delivered from Boeing Field via Dublin before continuing to Addis Ababa between 19 and 20 September 2026. The deliveries add further new-generation narrowbody capacity to Ethiopian’s fleet and support the carrier’s wider renewal strategy.

YR-AEA Boeing 757-223(F) Delivered to Mister Air
Mister Air has taken delivery of Boeing 757-223(F) YR-AEA, MSN 32391, formerly N197AN. The aircraft was routed from Amarillo to Łódź via Bangor between 6 and 7 October 2026.
D-AILI Airbus A319-114 Ferried for Part-Out
Lufthansa Airbus A319-114 D-AILI, MSN 651, was ferried from Frankfurt to Teruel on 7 October 2026 for part-out and scrapping. The aircraft was formerly registered D-AVYY.

Finnair Passenger Numbers Rise 9.6 Per Cent in September
Finnair carried 1.11 million passengers in September 2026, an increase of 9.6 per cent year on year, with growth across Asia, Europe and the North Atlantic. Domestic traffic was the only segment to record fewer passengers, while Middle East services remained suspended. Capacity increased by 6.8 per cent, or 0.4 per cent when aircraft leased to other airlines with crews were included. The passenger load factor reached 79.9 per cent, while revenue per available seat kilometre increased by 15.8 per cent.
LOT Resumes Warsaw–Bangkok Flights After 26-Year Hiatus
LOT Polish Airlines resumed scheduled Warsaw–Bangkok services on 7 October 2026, restoring a route last operated in March 2000. Boeing 787 Dreamliners initially operate three times a week, with flights taking around 10 hours 20 minutes outbound and 11 hours 15 minutes on the return. From 2 November, frequency will increase to six weekly flights in each direction. Warsaw departures will then operate at 2:45 pm every day except Friday, while Bangkok departures will operate daily except Saturday.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines Places Firm Order for Ten Airbus Aircraft
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed a firm order for four Airbus A350-900 widebodies and six A321neo aircraft. The order forms part of the carrier’s fleet modernisation programme. The aircraft will support international expansion from Dhaka, including planned new services to North America and additional capacity to Europe and the Middle East.
Syrian Airlines Unveils New Identity and Growth Strategy
Syrian Airlines unveiled a new corporate identity and strategic vision at Damascus International Airport on 5 October. The carrier plans to modernise its fleet, rebuild its international network and expand to 25 destinations, while its wider strategy includes doubling the fleet. The rebranding was presented in cooperation with Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport.
India Targets First Locally Made Civilian Aircraft Within Two Years
India aims to produce a locally made civilian aircraft within two years through a joint venture, according to Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu. The announcement forms part of efforts to establish domestic commercial aircraft manufacturing after decades of reliance on imported airliners. The aircraft type and companies involved in the proposed venture were not identified.
Marabu Airlines to Expand A320neo Fleet to 14 Aircraft in 2027
Marabu Airlines plans to add two Airbus A320neo aircraft in 2027, taking its fleet to 14 aircraft. The carrier will continue with an all-A320neo fleet, supporting fleet standardisation and additional capacity for its European leisure network. For summer 2027, Marabu will add new services to Lamezia Terme in Italy and Preveza in Greece.
KLM Takes Delivery of First Airbus A350-900 but business class seats not available
KLM received its first Airbus A350-900 on 2 October as part of an order covering up to 90 aircraft, including 50 firm orders and 40 options. The A350 is central to the airline’s seven billion euros fleet renewal programme. The aircraft will initially enter service without its new World Business Class seats being available for sale because certification has not yet been completed.
Emirates Restores 93 Per Cent of Pre-Disruption Capacity
Emirates has restored 93 per cent of its pre-disruption capacity and nearly 98 per cent of its global network following a period of Middle East airspace and regional disruption. The airline carried more than 8.6 million passengers during July and August. Emirates is now increasing operations and adding routes ahead of the winter travel season.
Brazilian Regulator Approves American Airlines Investment in Azul
Brazil’s competition authority, Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Econômica (CADE), has unanimously approved American Airlines’ proposed 100 million US dollars equity investment in Azul. The deal will be completed through subscription warrants and is expected to give American Airlines around an eight per cent shareholding and voting interest in Azul. The approval removes a key regulatory hurdle for the transaction.
Mauritania Airlines Plans Sale of Three Embraer Aircraft
Mauritania Airlines International is preparing to sell three Embraer aircraft from its fleet. The aircraft are E175s 5T-CLO, 5T-CLL, and ERJ-145LR 5T-CLD. The airline and Mauritania’s Ministry of Equipment and Transport have launched an international process to appoint an independent aviation consultancy to value the aircraft and support the planned sales.
EVIO Joins TrueNoord’s New Technology Hub
EVIO has joined regional aircraft lessor TrueNoord’s New Technology Hub, which supports the introduction of next-generation regional aircraft technologies aimed at reducing emissions. The companies will examine operational and economic factors including maintenance, financing, leasing and infrastructure. They will also share technical and market insights as part of the collaboration.

Brussels Airport Expects Around 140 Flight Cancellations on 9 October
Brussels Airport expects around 140 flight cancellations on Friday, 9 October, as Alyzia ground-handling staff join a national protest. The disruption affects 21 airlines served by Alyzia, with around half of scheduled flights expected to operate. Brussels Airlines plans to cancel approximately 40 per cent of its services, with affected passengers offered alternative travel or refunds.
Lufthansa Group Expands Japan Network for Summer 2027
Lufthansa Group plans to operate up to 50 weekly flights to Japan during summer 2027. Lufthansa will introduce a daily Frankfurt–Tokyo Narita service from 28 March and resume Frankfurt–Nagoya three times weekly from 29 March. Daily Tokyo Haneda services from Frankfurt and Munich will continue, giving Lufthansa three daily Germany–Tokyo connections during the summer schedule.
Widerøe Recognised at 2026 ERAA Awards in Belfast
Widerøe was named Europe’s leading regional airline at the 2026 European Regions Airline Association Awards in Belfast. The awards recognise achievements in regional connectivity, sustainability, innovation and workforce development. The ceremony formed part of the ERAA General Assembly, held at ICC Belfast from 6 to 8 October.
Ryanair to Withdraw from Leipzig/Halle and Dresden in Summer 2027
Ryanair will not operate from Leipzig/Halle or Dresden airports during summer 2027 after discussions with Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG ended without agreement. Both sides cited high airport and security-related costs as a key issue. Discussions on a possible return for winter 2027/28 remain open, although no commitments have been made.
Waterford Airport in Talks with Ryanair for 2027 Return
Waterford Airport is in discussions with Ryanair as it prepares to resume scheduled passenger services in 2027. Chief Executive William Bolster said flights are expected next year if construction continues as planned. The airport’s 30 million euros redevelopment includes a runway extension and terminal upgrades, with an annual passenger target of around 400,000.
Clare Council Seeks Further Information on Ryanair Shannon Hangar Plan
Clare County Council has placed Ryanair’s proposed 50 million euros four-bay maintenance hangar at Shannon Airport on hold while seeking further information. The council raised concerns about a planned two-metre-high berm intended to store contaminated soil on a site south-east of the hangar. The application was submitted by Ryanair applicant company Wonderlight Ltd.
IATA Marks Tenth Anniversary of CORSIA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has marked ten years since the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) adopted the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). Introduced through a 2016 ICAO Assembly resolution, CORSIA became the first global market-based measure for an industrial sector. IATA is calling on governments to reinforce the framework as aviation continues its decarbonisation efforts.
Apollo to favour aircraft financing for easyJet deal
Apollo Global Management is expected to use aircraft-backed financing for most or all of the 3.5 billion pounds debt package supporting its planned acquisition of easyJet Group. The longer-term financing could include asset-backed loans and other debt secured against easyJet aircraft. Banks are expected to launch the financing towards the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
Skift Global Forum Set for Dublin for the First Time
Skift is bringing its Global Forum to Dublin under the theme “Travel in a Fractured World”. The event will bring together government ministers, European Union officials, tourism organisations, airlines and travel technology leaders. Discussions will cover geopolitical pressures, European travel demand, artificial intelligence in destination discovery, new aircraft opening secondary routes and changing traveller behaviour.
Belfast City Airport Highlights Northern Ireland Distilleries in October
Belfast City Airport’s “That’s the Spirit” week will return from 25 to 29 October 2026. The event will showcase Northern Ireland’s distillery sector, with passengers able to sample products and meet local producers. The programme focuses on the craft and heritage behind regional spirit brands.
TUI fly, Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia Bring Aviation Learning to Brussels Airport
Around 180 secondary school pupils will take part in the Newton Room programme at TUI fly Belgium’s training centre at Brussels Airport. The two-week initiative, organised with Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia, will introduce students to flight planning and professional flight simulators. Activities include calculating routes, estimating flight times and understanding how mathematics, science and technology support aviation operations.
Irish Air Traffic Grows Faster Than Expected in First Half of 2026
Flights to and from the Republic of Ireland increased by almost seven per cent to 157,515 during the first six months of 2026, according to the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA). The regulator has also confirmed that additional take-off and landing slots will be available at Dublin Airport next summer. The move provides scope for further aviation growth as traffic continues to increase.
