Avelo Airlines Announces 2 New Chicago Routes
Avelo Airlines has announced the launch of two new Chicago routes, new services connecting Detroit and Central Florida, and the return of three previously operated routes to Atlanta and Nashville. Avelo will be the sole carrier offering nonstop service across all five routes, which will be operated using Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said the expansion supports Avelo’s continued growth across its Central Florida, Charlotte, and Philadelphia bases, while offering customers more affordable and convenient travel options. The additions reflect Avelo’s strategy of selectively expanding point-to-point routes where demand and aircraft utilisation align.
Boeing Completes Acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems’ Commercial Operations
Boeing has completed the acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems’ Boeing-related commercial operations, bringing key manufacturing and aftermarket capabilities back in-house. The transaction includes 737 fuselages, major structures for the 767, 777 and 787 programs, as well as commercially procured fuselages for the P-8 and KC-46 platforms. Boeing also acquires Spirit’s spare parts and aftermarket businesses, expanding its global MRO footprint and rotable, lease, and exchange portfolio. Spirit’s Belfast operations will operate as an independent Boeing subsidiary under the Short Brothers brand. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg described the move as a pivotal step toward stabilising production, improving quality, and strengthening long-term delivery performance.
EVIO Launches Hybrid-Electric Aircraft Program with 450 Pre-Orders
EVIO Inc. has launched its EVIO 810 hybrid-electric regional aircraft programme, securing conditional purchase agreements and options for 450 aircraft. The clean-sheet design targets the 50–100 seat segment and is expected to enter service in the early 2030s. EVIO aims to deliver lower emissions, improved operating economics, and flexibility for passenger, cargo, and defence missions. With more than 5,000 regional aircraft expected to require replacement over the next 20 years, EVIO estimates total demand could exceed 7,500 aircraft in this category. CEO Michael Derman said the programme focuses on profitability for regional operators while maintaining strong sustainability credentials.
Acumen’s Take
On Avelo’s Network Expansion
Avelo’s route additions reinforce the strength of underserved point-to-point markets in the U.S. leisure and VFR segments. Exclusive nonstop services help protect yields while supporting efficient fleet deployment across secondary airports.
On Boeing’s Spirit AeroSystems Acquisition
Bringing Spirit’s commercial operations in-house is a strategic move to regain tighter control over production quality, supply chain stability, and delivery timelines. The acquisition signals Boeing’s intent to address structural challenges that have constrained output across multiple programmes.
On EVIO’s Hybrid-Electric Programme
EVIO’s early orderbook highlights growing interest in next-generation regional aircraft solutions. While entry into service remains long-dated, hybrid-electric platforms could play a meaningful role in fleet renewal as operators seek cost efficiency and emissions reductions without sacrificing range or capacity.
