Aer Lingus Deploys A321LR on Ireland West Airport Rotation
Aer Lingus operated an Airbus A321LR on its Dublin–London Heathrow–Ireland West Airport rotation on 9 August, marking the type’s second appearance at Ireland West Airport. Airbus A321-253NX(LR) EI-LRF, msn 10264, named “St Gelasius”, operated the four-sector EIN156/915/916/161 rotation. The aircraft flew Dublin–London Heathrow–Ireland West–London Heathrow–Dublin, replacing the route’s scheduled 186-seat A320neo.
EasyJet Connects Belfast International with Aberdeen
EasyJet will launch a new winter service between Belfast International Airport and Aberdeen International Airport from 4 January 2027. The route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Belfast International Airport said the new connection will support additional investment and job creation while improving direct connectivity for leisure travellers, students and businesses.
Ryanair Targets Major Growth in Shannon MRO Capability
Ryanair has submitted a planning application for a major expansion of its engineering operations at Shannon Airport, with plans to make it the airline’s largest aircraft maintenance facility in Ireland. The €50 million investment includes a new four-bay Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul hangar, expanding Ryanair’s existing maintenance and engineering operations at Shannon. Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the new facility scheduled to become operational in late 2028.

DAE Agrees Purchase-and-Leaseback Transaction with Saudia Covering Four Boeing 777 Freighters
Dubai Aerospace Enterprise has signed a purchase agreement with Saudia for four new Boeing 777F aircraft and entered into long-term leases covering the freighters. Deliveries are scheduled between October 2026 and May 2027.
Setna iO Acquires Airbus A320neo Airframe and PW1100G Components
Setna iO has acquired one 2019-vintage Airbus A320neo airframe and two sets of Pratt & Whitney GTF PW1100 QEC components. The acquisition expands its supply of used serviceable material for airlines, aircraft lessors and MRO providers.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways Plans to Add Eight Airbus A330s by April 2027
Vietnam’s Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to add eight Airbus A330 widebody aircraft, with four joining during 2026 and another four in the first four months of 2027. The first two are expected in September to support South Korea services and planned expansion into Russia and Kazakhstan, followed by a third aircraft in October and a fourth in December. The remaining four will arrive progressively in early 2027 to support planned services to Japan and Australia and potential future routes to the Czech Republic and Poland.
Embraer Posts Record Second-Quarter Revenue of US$2.2 Billion
Embraer reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of US$2.2 billion, setting a new all-time record for the April–June period. Revenue increased by 23 percent compared with the same quarter of 2025. The company also raised its 2026 guidance.
Vietjet Confirms Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok Services from Western Sydney Airport
Western Sydney International Airport confirmed Vietjet Air will begin flying to Ho Chi Minh City from January 2027, marking the Vietnamese carrier’s entry into the new international gateway. Services to Ho Chi Minh City will initially operate twice weekly before increasing to three weekly flights by March 2027. The announcement also confirms Bangkok as part of Vietjet’s planned Western Sydney network.
Lufthansa Group Begins Starlink High-Speed Wi-Fi Rollout
Lufthansa Group is beginning the rollout of Starlink high-speed internet across its airline fleets. A Lufthansa Airbus A320neo will become the first group aircraft equipped with the new service next week. Lufthansa Group says the onboard bandwidth will, in many cases, be faster than passengers’ home or office internet connections.
UK Launches Procurement Process for New RAF Trainer and Red Arrows Aircraft
The UK Ministry of Defence has formally launched procurement for a new advanced jet trainer for the Royal Air Force. A request for information published on 7 August 2026 covers both the RAF’s fast-jet training fleet and the aircraft operated by the Red Arrows. Under project code 700004994-RFI, interested suppliers have until 11 September 2026 to provide company details, a point of contact and their area of interest.
Delta Boeing 757 Evacuated at Atlanta Following Flight-Deck Fumes
A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-200, registration N555NW, was evacuated using emergency slides at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after the crew reported fumes in the flight deck shortly after take-off. Flight DL2204 was bound for Orlando with approximately 200 passengers and six crew members. The aircraft departed Atlanta shortly before 07:30 local time before returning after the pilots declared an emergency.
Belgium Blocks Acquisition of NHV on National-Security Grounds
Belgian authorities have blocked the proposed acquisition of Ostend-based helicopter operator NHV Group by GD Helicopter Finance. Authorities cited national security, strategic interests and NHV’s potential involvement in Belgian military helicopter maintenance. The transaction, announced in December 2025, would have seen GDHF acquire NHV from French private equity firm Ardian, which has controlled the operator since 2013.

ORIX Aviation Agrees Acquisition of AerFin
ORIX Aviation has signed an agreement to acquire aviation aftermarket specialist AerFin, which buys, sells, leases and repairs aircraft, engines and parts. The transaction will combine ORIX Aviation’s global aircraft leasing, asset management and investment platform with AerFin’s aftermarket capabilities and technical expertise. AerFin will become an ORIX Aviation-owned company, with completion targeted by the end of 2026 subject to required regulatory approvals.
Two Irish Credit Unions Partner with AFTA to Finance Professional Pilot Training
Clonmel and Elevate Credit Unions have established a loan fund with AFTA to support pilot cadets, addressing funding identified as a key obstacle in the Pathfinder for Irish Aviation report. The initiative is intended to make professional pilot training accessible to candidates across all income groups. Training is available at Waterford, Weston, Sligo and Cork airports, with full details presented at AFTA’s Open Day at Cork Airport on 8 August.
Irish Government Dassault Falcon 6X Departs for Scheduled Overseas Maintenance
The Irish Government’s 53 million pound Dassault Falcon 6X has travelled overseas for around one month of planned factory maintenance. The work cannot be carried out at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, so it has been scheduled during the Oireachtas summer break in August. The aircraft was delivered without the FalconEye enhanced vision system because the Department of Defence excluded it under its policy on Israeli defence procurement.

Dublin Airport handled 3,839,635 passengers in July 2026, up 2.3 percent year on year, with daily passenger volumes exceeding 100,000 throughout the month. Security screening cleared 93 percent of departing passengers in under 20 minutes. FIFA World Cup and EU Presidency traffic contributed to inbound volumes, while the first seven months of 2026 produced 22 million passengers, an increase of 5.2 percent.

Dublin Airport Prepares Operations for Ireland’s EU Presidency

Aer Lingus Warns of Summer 2027 Fare and Route Risks from Dublin Airport Capacity Delays
Aer Lingus has repeated its warning that fares and routes could face “acute” risk if reform of Dublin Airport’s passenger cap is delayed. The Dublin Airport (Passenger Capacity) Act 2026 has been signed into law, giving the Minister power to revoke the cap, although environmental assessments and judicial reviews could delay its removal. Shannon Aviation Museum will hold its Heritage Hangar Fest on 22 August 2026 as part of National Heritage Week. The free event will run from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with last admission at 7:45 pm, and will include museum access, guided tours, live music and family-friendly activities. Exhibits cover military, commercial and general aviation history, while the event will also highlight the museum’s growing collection and its role in preserving Irish aviation heritage. Aer Lingus Long-Haul Fleet Strategy Renews Discussion Around Airbus A350
Discussion around a possible future Airbus A350 role at Aer Lingus has resurfaced as the airline reviews its long-haul fleet strategy.
