Aer Lingus Deploys A321LR on Ireland West Airport Rotation
Aer Lingus operated an Airbus A321LR on its Dublin–London Heathrow–Ireland West Airport rotation on 9 August, marking the type’s second appearance at Ireland West Airport. Airbus A321-253NX(LR) EI-LRF, msn 10264, named “St Gelasius”, operated the four-sector EIN156/915/916/161 rotation. The aircraft flew Dublin–London Heathrow–Ireland West–London Heathrow–Dublin, replacing the route’s scheduled 186-seat A320neo.
EasyJet Connects Belfast International with Aberdeen
EasyJet will launch a new winter service between Belfast International Airport and Aberdeen International Airport from 4 January 2027. The route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Belfast International Airport said the new connection will support additional investment and job creation while improving direct connectivity for leisure travellers, students and businesses.
Ryanair Targets Major Growth in Shannon MRO Capability
Ryanair has submitted a planning application for a major expansion of its engineering operations at Shannon Airport, with plans to make it the airline’s largest aircraft maintenance facility in Ireland. The €50 million investment includes a new four-bay Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul hangar, expanding Ryanair’s existing maintenance and engineering operations at Shannon. Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the new facility scheduled to become operational in late 2028.

IndiGo Airbus A321-251NX VT-NOJ, c/n 13385, formerly registered as F-WWSG, routed Toulouse–Abu Dhabi–Delhi on 10–11 August as part of its delivery to IndiGo.

Archer Aviation Moves to Acquire Boeing’s Wisk Aero, Insitu and SkyGrid Businesses
Archer Aviation plans to acquire Boeing subsidiaries Wisk Aero, Insitu and SkyGrid in an all-stock transaction. The deal would give the eVTOL developer a major position in autonomous flight, uncrewed aircraft and airspace management technology, while Boeing would take an approximately 16.5 percent equity stake in Archer.

DHL Express Expands Shenzhen Facility and Adds New China–Europe Freighter Route
DHL Express has expanded its Shenzhen “Super” Gateway facility at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport with an investment of 177 million euros, tripling processing capacity to around 900 tonnes per day. The expanded facility will support cross-border trade, e-commerce shipments and time-definite international express services. DHL has also launched a new dedicated Boeing 767 freighter route linking Shanghai, Bangkok, Bahrain and Brussels, as it targets growing demand from the data centre and pharmaceutical sectors.
Air Astana Targets Zero Pratt & Whitney PW1100G Groundings in 2027
Air Astana Group has reduced aircraft groundings linked to Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine issues by around 60 per cent year on year. The group secured 11 additional engines during the first half of 2026 and expects engine inductions this year to exceed three times the 11 completed in 2025. Air Astana operates 35 aircraft at its mainline carrier and has set a target of eliminating GTF-related groundings by 2027.
Namibia Air Secures Five-Year Operating Licences and Outlines Embraer Fleet Strategy
Namibia Air has received scheduled and non-scheduled air service licences valid for five years from 6 August 2026. The airline is targeting its first commercial flights for the first week of December and plans to acquire four Embraer E145s and three E170s/E175s for 35 million dollars. It must still obtain an air operator certificate through a 90-day process before operations can begin. FlyNamibia remains the country’s only scheduled passenger airline following the liquidation of Air Namibia in 2021.
Germany Moves to Enforce ReFuelEU SAF and Fuel-Tankering Requirements
Germany has drafted legislation to enforce the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation rules. Airlines could be fined 1,332 euros per metric tonne if they fail to meet sustainable aviation fuel blending requirements, while reporting and notification breaches could lead to additional penalties of up to 50,000 euros. The rules also require airlines to take on at least 90 percent of the fuel they need at the departure airport, helping limit excessive fuel tankering. Enforcement will be handled by Germany’s Federal Aviation Office.
Lufthansa Prepares First Starlink-Equipped Airbus A320neo for Entry into Service
Lufthansa’s first Airbus A320neo equipped with Starlink high-speed internet connectivity is scheduled to enter service on 19 August 2026. The service will be free for passengers with a Travel ID or Miles & More account, although voice and video calls will not be permitted. The aircraft marks the first operational deployment of Starlink on a Lufthansa aircraft, with the group planning to extend the technology across its fleet of 850 existing and newly delivered aircraft.
Baykar Establishes Commercial Air Cargo Airline in Turkiye
Baykar has established a new commercial air cargo airline in Turkiye, with plans to operate domestic and international cargo services from Istanbul. The company is recruiting Airbus A321P2F pilots and ground staff, indicating that the freighter type will form part of the planned operation. Details on fleet size, launch timing and the initial cargo network have not yet been disclosed.
World Star Aviation Leases Boeing 737-800SF to Northern Air Cargo
World Star Aviation is preparing to deliver a Boeing 737-800SF to Alaska-based Northern Air Cargo, which will double the carrier’s 737-800 freighter fleet to two aircraft. The 2004-vintage aircraft, c/n 32277 and formerly operated by Air Explore, arrived in Shannon on 4 August and is being painted and prepared for delivery.

Dublin Airport Records Busiest Month in Its History with More Than 3.8 Million July Passengers
More than 3.8 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in July, making it the busiest month in the airport’s history. The total reached 3,839,635 passengers,an increase of 2.3 percent compared with July last year and marking the 16th consecutive month of passenger growth. During the first seven months of 2026, just under 22 million passengers used the airport, an increase of 5.2 percent year on year.
Belfast International Airport Rated ‘Very Good’ for Accessibility
Belfast International Airport has received a ‘Very Good’ rating in the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Airport Accessibility Report 2025/26. In 2025, 120,000 passengers used the airport’s assistance services, an increase of 8 percent from the previous year. The airport is continuing to improve accessible facilities, staff training and passenger support as part of its wider 100 million pound infrastructure modernisation programme.
Air Astana Targets Zero Pratt & Whitney PW1100G Engine Groundings in 2027
Air Astana Group has reduced groundings linked to Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine issues by around 60 per cent year on year and secured 11 additional engines during the first half of 2026. Engine inductions this year are expected to exceed three times the 11 completed in 2025. The group operates 35 aircraft at mainline carrier Air Astana and is targeting zero GTF-related groundings by 2027.
Brussels Airlines Halts A330 Expansion and Ends Wet-Leases for 2027
Brussels Airlines will not add the two Airbus A330-300s that had been planned for 2027, while four wet-leased AirBaltic A220-300s will also not return for Summer 2027. Fuel costs increased by 64 million euros in the first half of 2026 compared with the previous year, while the airline recorded an adjusted EBIT loss of 70 million euros. Brussels Airlines currently operates eight A320neos and plans to increase this to 13 aircraft by the end of 2028.
Irish Passport Renewal Reminder Service to Launch in 2027
Ireland’s Passport Service will introduce an opt-in electronic reminder service in 2027 for citizens applying for a first passport or renewing an existing one. The service will include passport-expiry notifications, although data-protection requirements mean reminders will only apply to passports issued from 2027 rather than those already due to expire in coming years. Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee confirmed the change as part of wider upgrades to the Passport Service’s systems.
Ryanair Could Become Europe’s Last Independent Low-Cost Airline
Ryanair Group Chief Executive Michael O’Leary expects further consolidation to reshape European aviation, potentially leaving Ryanair as the continent’s only major independent low-cost carrier.
