EirTrade Aviation Acquires A320 and Boeing 737-800 Airframes
EirTrade Aviation has acquired an Airbus A320-200 previously operated by Royal Jordanian and a Boeing 737-800 formerly operated by Nok Air. Both aircraft are due to undergo immediate disassembly at the company’s facility at Ireland West Airport Knock. EirTrade has also recently secured authorisations from the Bailiwick of Guernsey (2-REG), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI, VP-C) and the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA, VP-B), supporting aircraft operations, transitions, parking and storage at the Knock facility.
flydubai Boeing 737 MAX 9 Delivered via Shannon
flydubai has taken delivery of Boeing 737 MAX 9 A6-FND, MSN 66574, configured with 172 seats across two classes. The aircraft travelled from Boeing Field in Seattle to Dubai via Shannon between 31 August and 2 September 2026. The delivery brings flydubai’s Boeing 737 fleet to 98 aircraft, comprising 26 737-800s, 68 737 MAX 8s and four 737 MAX 9s, supporting a network of more than 120 destinations across 56 countries.
Aer Lingus Operates One-Time Dublin–Brussels A330 Service
Aer Lingus operated a one-off Dublin–Brussels service on 9 September 2026 using two-class, 317-seat Airbus A330-302 EI-EDY, msn 1025, instead of the usual 174-seat Airbus A320-200. The higher-capacity aircraft was deployed amid increased demand linked to meetings associated with Ireland’s EU Presidency. The operation also highlighted the A330-300’s flexibility across both short- and long-haul routes.
Ethiopian Airlines Takes Delivery of Two Boeing 737-8s via Dublin
Ethiopian Airlines has taken delivery of two new Boeing 737-8 aircraft, both routing through Dublin on their delivery flights from Boeing Field to Addis Ababa. ET-BCR, msn 43576, was delivered between 26 and 27 August 2026, while ET-BCS, msn 43577, followed the same routing between 27 and 29 August 2026.

Smartwings and TUI Extend Flight Partnership for Three Years
Smartwings and TUI have extended their air transport agreement for another three years, continuing package-holiday flights from Central and Eastern Europe. Under the renewed partnership, Smartwings will carry TUI customers to leisure destinations across the Mediterranean, Turkey and Egypt, with summer operations focused on Mediterranean resorts and winter services including Hurghada and Marsa Alam. Both companies highlighted the importance of reliable operations and direct connectivity within the charter market.
TAROM Receives Romania’s First Boeing 737 MAX
TAROM has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, becoming the first Romanian airline to operate the 737 MAX. Named Mircea Lucescu, the aircraft is the first of two 737-8s leased from CDB Aviation. The deliveries form part of TAROM’s fleet-modernisation programme and will support the renewal of its single-aisle fleet, which currently includes four previous-generation Boeing 737s.
flydubai to Launch Dedicated Boeing 737-800 Freighter Operations
flydubai will begin dedicated freighter operations on 1 October using three Boeing 737-800 freighters wet-leased from SolitAir. The aircraft will be based at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport and offer payload capacity of up to 23 tonnes per flight. The operation marks the first phase of flydubai’s cargo fleet expansion and will add main-deck capacity ahead of the fourth-quarter peak freight season.
Red Sea Airlines to Add Two Boeing 737 MAX 8s
Red Sea Airlines has agreed to lease two new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital as part of plans to expand its fleet to 14 aircraft by 2028. The two aircraft are scheduled for delivery in July and August 2027, supporting the Egyptian carrier’s ongoing fleet expansion.
TARMAC Aerosave to Dismantle More Than 10 A320neo and 737 MAX Aircraft for AerFin
TARMAC Aerosave will process more than 10 Airbus A320neo Family and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for AerFin during 2026 under an expanded dismantling and recycling programme. Components recovered from the aircraft will support AerFin’s growing demand for used serviceable material from newer-generation fleets.
Vietnam Airlines Signs MoU for Five Additional A350-900s
Vietnam Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for five additional A350-900s as part of a wider plan to acquire 30 widebody aircraft for growth beyond 2030. The proposed aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2033 and 2034, subject to further evaluation, negotiations and the airline’s required investment and procurement approvals.
AerCap CEO Highlights Impact of Bespoke Seat Requirements on Aircraft Deliveries
AerCap CEO Aengus Kelly said high levels of seat customisation are contributing to aircraft delivery delays by creating additional certification challenges. He noted that delayed certification of a new seat design can push an aircraft delivery back by up to a year and add 3–4 percent to its price. Kelly also said cabin refreshes for used aircraft are facing extended lead times.
Pegasus Airlines and AirAsia codeshare a significant development in global aviation
Pegasus Airlines and AirAsia Group have launched a codeshare agreement linking Europe and Asia, a relatively rare form of cooperation between low-cost carriers. The partnership initially covers AirAsia X services between Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen and Kuala Lumpur, alongside Pegasus connections to five European destinations. It is Pegasus’ first codeshare in Asia and AirAsia X’s first codeshare agreement, with both airlines planning to expand the partnership to more routes over time.
Amazon Air Relies on Specialist Carriers to Operate Cargo Fleet
Amazon Air operates a cargo network of more than 100 aircraft, but the flights themselves are operated by specialist cargo carriers that provide crews, maintenance and regulatory approvals. The network launched in the US in 2016 using wet-leased aircraft, beginning with a Boeing 767 known as Amazon One. By December 2018, the operation had grown to 40 aircraft serving more than 20 US airports, using Boeing 737 freighters for shorter routes and Boeing 767s for higher-capacity operations.
Former WestJet Boeing 737-800BCF Set to Join Alaska Air Group
A Boeing 737-800BCF previously operated by WestJet is set to join Alaska Air Group. The 2003-built freighter, MSN 32904, was deregistered in Canada on 2 September and received a US registration on 8 September. It is one of four 737-800BCFs formerly operated by WestJet.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel Gains Greater Industry Attention
Sustainable aviation fuel is receiving greater attention as EU mandates and fuel supply challenges increase the urgency to expand production and deployment. Sustainable Aviation Fuels Institute president Cindy Tomei said rising demand also highlights the need for infrastructure to transport SAF from production facilities to airports.

Ryanair Highlights Fuel Hedging Position at AGM
Ryanair has hedged 80 percent of its oil costs at 67 dollars a barrel until March 2027, with a further 15 percent hedged at 85 dollars a barrel for the 2028 financial year. The airline said average fares may rise slightly this winter following a modest improvement since July. Winter schedule cuts have also reduced its fiscal 2027 traffic target to 214 million passengers, while oil prices moved above 100 dollars a barrel during the week.
Lufthansa Records Kühne Aviation Stake Above 20 Percent
Deutsche Lufthansa AG has reported that Kühne Aviation holds an indirect stake of just over 20 percent in the airline, equivalent to 240.4 million voting rights. The disclosure follows the death of long-time shareholder Klaus-Michael Kühne on 23 August 2026 and the appointment of FROMER Services as executor on 31 August. Thomas Stähelin is identified at the top of the relevant reporting chain.
Wizz Air Scales Back A321XLR Plans
Wizz Air has sidelined six of its remaining ten Airbus A321XLR aircraft as part of a strategic shift away from long-range expansion. The airline originally ordered 47 A321XLRs, but has since converted 36 orders to standard A321neos, while the remaining XLRs are being integrated as standard A321neo aircraft. Pratt & Whitney GTF engine reliability issues also continue to affect the carrier’s fleet planning.
Boeing Records Slowest Order Month of 2026 in August
Boeing recorded 15 gross and net orders in August 2026, its lowest monthly total of the year. The orders included 13 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and two 737 MAX aircraft. Boeing also delivered 51 aircraft during the month, including 41 737 MAX jets, taking year-to-date deliveries to 418 aircraft.
Airline Slot Demand Grows at Heathrow
Heathrow says more than 40 existing and prospective airlines are seeking scarce airport slots, with around three-quarters of proposed new routes focused on long-haul services. The airport said its ability to accommodate additional flights remains constrained without expansion. Xiamen Airlines has also become Heathrow’s newest carrier.
Heathrow Passenger Traffic Slightly Lower in August
Heathrow handled 23 million passengers during summer 2026, with August traffic reaching 7.87 million passengers. The airport recorded its busiest-ever day on 2 August with nearly 272,000 travellers. More than 40 airlines are seeking scarce slots, while Xiamen Airlines has become Heathrow’s newest carrier. Middle East traffic declined by 19.8 percent in August.
Zurich Airport Passenger Traffic Rises in August
Zurich Airport handled 3.33 million passengers in August 2026, an increase of 1.8 percent year on year. Around 1.02 million passengers transferred through the airport, accounting for just over 30 percent of total traffic. Aircraft movements rose by 2.9 percent to 26,009, while average passengers per movement and seat load factor both declined slightly.
Irish Aircraft Register Records Additions, Cancellations and Ownership Changes
The latest register update lists six additions, including Emerald Airlines ATR72-212A EI-GZY and Textron Aviation T206-H EI-ROG, along with EI-BMO, EI-HRT, EI-HRZ and EI-PAA. Among the removals, EI-COT moved to the Netherlands as PH-ACZ, while CityJet CRJ900s EI-FPP and EI-FPW transferred to the US for PSA Airlines as N642NN and N648NN. CityJet CRJ900 EI-GEB had been scrapped, ASL Airlines ATR72-212A EI-HAC remains stored in France, and EI-HNB was also deregistered. Ownership changes were recorded for Boeing 737-8CX EI-CXV, Airbus A320-272N EI-HJD and Tomark Viper EI-HPW.

The Irish Aviation Authority has published draft coordination parameters for Dublin Airport’s Summer 2027 season, which runs from 28 March to 30 October. The proposal could allow up to 28 additional daily take-off and landing slots. These parameters will guide the independent slot coordinator when allocating capacity to airlines operating at Dublin Airport.
