ASL Airlines Ireland Builds A330 Freighter Partnership with Saudia Cargo

ASL Airlines Ireland and Saudia Cargo have continued to expand their A330 freighter partnership, with two Airbus A330-300 freighters each operating approximately 360 block hours per month between Saudi Arabia and Europe. The utilisation level meets the programme’s 2024 operational target. Discussions during a recent management visit to Jeddah reviewed operational performance, progress since the programme’s launch and future network opportunities.

 

ASL Aviation Holdings Expands Boeing 737-800BCF Fleet

ASL Airlines France took delivery of its ninth Boeing 737-800BCF, F-HIQJ, c/n 33719, on 6 August. The aircraft was originally delivered to Ryanair as EI-DAM in April 2003 and later underwent passenger-to-freighter conversion in Jinan. After operating with AirExplore as OM-EDA and being returned to lessor BBAM in December 2025, it was registered to ASL Aviation Holdings in July 2026.

Ireland-based Global FBO Consult has been named Best Africa Aviation Consultancy 2026 in the African Excellence Awards. The awards programme recognises organisations, leaders and professionals contributing to progress across Africa’s business landscape, from start-ups and SMEs to established enterprises and industry figures.

S2-STE ATR 72-600 Delivered to Air Astra

Air Astra ATR 72-600 S2-STE, c/n 1822, formerly registered F-WWEK, was delivered from Toulouse to Cairo on 17 August. The movement formed part of the aircraft’s new delivery to the operator.

 

C-FLPD Boeing 767-35D(F) Delivered to Cargojet Airways

Cargojet Airways Boeing 767-35D(F) C-FLPD, c/n 27902, formerly registered N352CM, was delivered from Goodyear to Hamilton on 15 August. The movement was completed as a freighter delivery.

Brussels Airlines Expands Nordic Network with New Winter Flights

Brussels Airlines is expanding its winter leisure network with scheduled services from Brussels to Evenes in Norway and Kemi and Kittilä in Finland. The three destinations were previously served mainly through charter operations in cooperation with tour operators. They will now also be available as regular scheduled flights, responding to growing demand for winter holidays in the Arctic region. 

 

Etihad Airways to Increase Brussels–Abu Dhabi Service to 11 Weekly Flights

Etihad Airways will increase its Brussels–Abu Dhabi service from seven to 11 weekly flights from 15 December 2026. In addition to the existing daily service, the airline will add four weekly rotations on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The additional flights will be operated by Airbus A321LR aircraft configured with 160 seats, including two First Suites, 14 Business Class seats and 144 Economy Class seats. 

 

Saudia Cargo Launches Dhaka–Frankfurt Freighter Service

Saudia Cargo has launched a scheduled freighter service connecting Dhaka, Bangladesh, with Frankfurt, Germany. The route is aimed at supporting air cargo demand for pharmaceuticals, textiles, industrial equipment and e-commerce shipments. 

 

Sydney Airport 2045 Master Plan Approved with Integrated Terminal Redevelopment

The Australian government has approved Sydney Airport’s Master Plan 2045, allowing the airport to proceed with a major redevelopment of its domestic precinct. The plan will bring domestic, regional and international services together into a more integrated terminal experience. Approved by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Catherine King on 14 August 2026, the framework will guide investment in terminal capacity, transport connections and passenger facilities over the next two decades. 

 

FAA Investigates Duplicate American Airlines 737 Callsigns Near Phoenix

The FAA is investigating an incident in which two American Airlines Boeing 737-800s were airborne in the same sector near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport shortly after midnight on 14 August 2026 using the same callsign, “American 2482”. One aircraft was arriving from Chicago O’Hare, while the other had just departed Phoenix for Chicago O’Hare. 

 

Lufthansa Shifts A380 Capacity from US Routes to Bangkok and Mumbai in Early 2027

Lufthansa will adjust its Airbus A380 operations in the first quarter of 2027, shifting capacity from US routes towards Asia. From 16 January to 26 February 2027, the airline will increase its Munich–Bangkok Suvarnabhumi service from once daily to twice daily. All flights on the route during this period are planned to be operated by Airbus A380 aircraft. 

 

Fly2Galicia Plans December Launch with Eight Routes from Santiago

Fly2Galicia plans to begin operations from Santiago de Compostela on 1 December 2026, with eight domestic and European routes and 17 weekly departures. The planned network will include Alicante, Zaragoza, Granada, Brussels, Munich, Milan Malpensa, Prague and Venice. 

 

Peru Approves Abra Group Acquisition of SKY Airline with Conditions

Peru’s competition authority Indecopi has approved Abra Group’s acquisition of control of SKY Airline, subject to modifications to certain contractual provisions. The decision follows a second-phase review launched in March 2026, which examined the transaction’s potential impact on competition, particularly on the Lima–Miami and Cusco–Miami routes.

 

Allegiant Adapts Strategy Following Sun Country Acquisition

Allegiant has begun adopting elements of Sun Country Airlines’ strategy following the completion of its acquisition of the carrier. Planned changes include complimentary drinks for passengers and the introduction of Allegiant’s version of a first-class product. The approach reflects the airline’s willingness to adapt its passenger offering as the US market continues to change.

Aer Lingus and Simtech Aviation have opened a new CAE Airbus A320 CEO/NEO Full-Flight Simulator at Simtech Aviation’s Pilot Training Centre of Excellence near Dublin Airport. The new simulator strengthens Ireland’s airline pilot training capability and expands access to A320-family training infrastructure.

The report also identifies the Airbus A321XLR as an aircraft attracting significant interest from airlines worldwide. SMBC Aviation Capital describes an industry that is recovering cautiously while adapting to a rapidly changing operating environment. 

 

Irish Orders Help Airbus Widen July Order Lead over Boeing

Airbus recorded 203 net orders in July 2026, compared with 30 for Boeing, while deliveries reached 67 aircraft for Airbus and 53 for Boeing. SMBC Aviation Capital contributed to Airbus’ order total with an order for 100 A320neo-family aircraft. Boeing’s July gross orders included 18 737 MAX aircraft and 19 787 Dreamliners. Year to date, Airbus leads deliveries with 418 aircraft compared with Boeing’s 367. 

 

Heathrow Recovers from Terminal Flooding

A burst water main caused flooding outside Heathrow Airport’s Terminals 2 and 3 on 15 August, blocking roads for most of Saturday morning. No water entered the terminal buildings and flights continued on schedule. All roads reopened by Saturday afternoon, although passengers were advised to use public transport to avoid residual road congestion. 

 

Ireland West Airport Records Busiest-Ever July with 107,246 Passengers

Ireland West Airport recorded its busiest-ever July with 107,246 passengers, an increase of 7.3 percent compared with July 2025 and 20.8 percent above pre-pandemic levels. Rolling annual passenger numbers reached 979,037, an increase of 9.5 percent compared with the 12 months to July 2025. 

 

Irish Orders Support Airbus Commercial Aircraft Sales Performance in July

Airbus recorded 203 net aircraft orders in July 2026, compared with 30 for Boeing. The Airbus total included an order for 100 A320neo-family aircraft from Irish lessor SMBC Aviation Capital. Airbus delivered 67 aircraft during the month against Boeing’s 53, taking year-to-date deliveries to 418 and 367 aircraft respectively. Boeing’s July gross orders included 18 737 MAX aircraft and 19 787 Dreamliners.

 

Belfast International Airport Ranked Among Leading Airports for Disabled Passenger Accessibility

Belfast International Airport has been rated ‘Very Good’ in the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Airport Accessibility Report 2025/26, placing it among the UK’s top-performing airports for assistance provided to disabled passengers and those with reduced mobility. Demand for accessibility support reached a record level in 2025, with 120,000 passengers using assistance services at the airport, an increase of 8 percent on the previous year. 

 

easyJet Cancels 100 Flights Due to French Cabin Crew Strike

easyJet cancelled around 100 flights from French airports over the weekend as cabin crew began industrial action over frequent and last-minute changes to working schedules. The disruption affected the airline’s French operations as staff protested changes to rosters and working arrangements. 

 

Europe–China Capacity Reaches Record Level in 2026

Europe–mainland China capacity has reached a record 8.9 million one-way seats in 2026, according to Cirium schedule data. The total is 15 percent above the previous high, with nearly 1.2 million additional seats added over the past year.
