ASL Airlines Ireland Builds A330 Freighter Partnership with Saudia Cargo
ASL Airlines Ireland and Saudia Cargo have continued to expand their A330 freighter partnership, with two Airbus A330-300 freighters each operating approximately 360 block hours per month between Saudi Arabia and Europe. The utilisation level meets the programme’s 2024 operational target. Discussions during a recent management visit to Jeddah reviewed operational performance, progress since the programme’s launch and future network opportunities.
ASL Aviation Holdings Expands Boeing 737-800BCF Fleet
ASL Airlines France took delivery of its ninth Boeing 737-800BCF, F-HIQJ, c/n 33719, on 6 August. The aircraft was originally delivered to Ryanair as EI-DAM in April 2003 and later underwent passenger-to-freighter conversion in Jinan. After operating with AirExplore as OM-EDA and being returned to lessor BBAM in December 2025, it was registered to ASL Aviation Holdings in July 2026.
Irish-Based Global FBO Consult Wins African Excellence Award
Ireland-based Global FBO Consult has been named Best Africa Aviation Consultancy 2026 in the African Excellence Awards. The awards programme recognises organisations, leaders and professionals contributing to progress across Africa’s business landscape, from start-ups and SMEs to established enterprises and industry figures.

Minsheng Financial Leasing Airbus A320-271N 2-MSLD, c/n 9412, formerly registered VT-WJT, was ferried from Bengaluru to Chengdu on 18 August. The movement was completed as part of a lease transition.
UR-82007 Antonov An-124-100 Ferried to Shannon for Repaint
Antonov Design Bureau Antonov An-124-100 UR-82007, c/n 19530501005, was ferried from Leipzig to Shannon on 14 August. The aircraft arrived for a repaint visit.

SWISS Replaces Two Geneva-Based A220-300s with Larger A320s for Summer 2027
SWISS will increase capacity at its Geneva base from summer 2027 by replacing two Airbus A220-300 aircraft with two larger A320s. The A320 offers 180 seats compared with 145 on the A220-300, adding 35 seats per aircraft. SWISS said strong demand on the Geneva–London Heathrow route is a key driver behind the capacity increase.
Air Astana Extends Suspension of Dubai Services Through 30 September
Air Astana has extended the suspension of its services between Kazakhstan and Dubai until 30 September 2026, citing continued instability in the Gulf region. The airline has also adjusted its October schedule for the Almaty–Dubai and Astana–Dubai routes, reducing frequencies once services resume.

Major aerospace suppliers are raising their full-year outlooks as demand across aerospace and defence manufacturing remains strong. The positive market environment is supporting financial performance across the supply chain, including at Honeywell Aerospace, which became a standalone company on 29 June ahead of reporting its second-quarter results.
Alliance Aviation Appoints Steven Greenway as CEO
Alliance Aviation Services has appointed aviation industry veteran Steven Greenway as Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Stewart Tully after more than 11 years with the company. Greenway will take over on 1 October 2026, while Tully will remain until 29 October to support the transition. The leadership change follows a revised wet lease agreement with Qantas and organisational changes announced earlier in August.
Asia Pacific–Europe Airfreight Rates Rise Despite Volume Pressure
Asia Pacific–Europe airfreight spot rates increased by 1 percent week on week during the week ending 9 August, according to WorldACD. Rates from China increased by 6 percent and Hong Kong by 3 percent, offsetting declines from South Korea of 6 percent, Singapore of 5 percent, and Taiwan and Japan of 4 percent each.
Etihad Guest Adds Starlux Flights to Mileage Redemption Network
Etihad Guest members can now redeem miles for Business and Economy Class seats on Starlux Airlines flights following a new partnership with the Taiwanese carrier’s Cosmile loyalty programme. From 11 August, the arrangement provides access to Starlux services via Taipei, including connections to Los Angeles, Phoenix and Seattle in the US, and Okinawa, Kobe and Nagoya in Japan.
First American Airlines Boeing 777 with Flagship Suites Arrives in Dallas
American Airlines’ first Boeing 777-300ER fitted with its new Flagship Suites returned to Dallas/Fort Worth on 13 August 2026 after nearly eight months at HAECO’s Hong Kong facility. The 330-seat aircraft is the first completed Boeing 777 under the airline’s Project Olympus cabin retrofit programme, bringing the new cabin product to the largest aircraft in its fleet.
Google to Buy Spirit Airlines Data for 10 Million US Dollars
Google has agreed to spend 10 million US dollars to acquire data belonging to defunct Spirit Airlines as part of the carrier’s court-supervised liquidation. An August 14 court filing showed Google was the highest bidder in the auction for the data rights, exceeding a 7.5 million US dollar offer from Mercor, a company that connects professionals with AI training projects.

CDB Aviation Delivers Three Airbus A321neos to Jet2
CDB Aviation has completed delivery mandates for three Airbus A321-251NX aircraft to Jet2. The aircraft join Jet2 as part of its fleet modernisation programme, which began in March 2023 following a firm order for 155 new A321neos. Featuring Jet2holidays livery, each aircraft is configured with 232 seats in an all-economy layout.
Menzies Aviation Begins AI-Powered Cargo Handling Technology Trial at Heathrow
Menzies Aviation has launched a proof-of-concept trial of AI-powered cargo measurement and build-up technology at its Heathrow cargo operations in partnership with computer vision specialist CIND. The trial will assess automated cargo measurement, real-time visibility and build-up checks. The technology is being evaluated for its potential to improve data quality, operational efficiency and decision-making from cargo arrival through to aircraft loading.
SWISS to Deploy Larger Airbus A320neos at Geneva for Summer 2027
SWISS will increase capacity at its Geneva base during summer 2027 by replacing two Airbus A220-300s with larger Airbus A320neo aircraft. The A320neos will primarily operate the high-demand Geneva–London Heathrow route. Each A320neo accommodates 180 passengers compared with 145 on the A220-300, adding 35 seats per flight without increasing frequencies.
Derry Airport Passenger Numbers Rise 22.6 Percent in June to 21,742
Derry Airport handled 21,742 passengers in June, an increase of 22.6 percent compared with 2025 and 28.8 percent above pre-pandemic levels. The rolling annual total reached 237,114 passengers, an increase of 13.8 percent compared with the 12 months to May 2025. Passenger numbers for the first six months of 2026 reached 120,151, up 16.3 percent year on year and 28.9 percent above pre-pandemic levels.
Belfast International Airport on Course for 6.7 Million Passengers in 2026
Belfast International Airport handled 635,199 passengers in June, a decrease of 0.8 percent compared with 2025 but 3.8 percent above pre-pandemic levels. Its rolling annual passenger total reached 6,738,908, down 0.2 percent compared with the 12 months to June 2025. Across Belfast’s two airports, June traffic reached 849,572 passengers, while the combined total for the first six months of 2026 was 3,217,197.
London Stansted Records Busiest Month in Airport History with 3.1 Million Passengers
London Stansted handled 3.1 million passengers in July 2026, an increase of 6.3 percent year on year and a new monthly record, surpassing the previous high set in August 2025. The rolling annual total reached 30.5 million passengers, up 1.8 percent. Spain, Italy and Turkey were the most popular country markets, while Emirates returned to twice-daily Dubai services offering onward connections to 140 destinations.
Birmingham Airport Reports Record July as Passenger Numbers Rise 2.1 Percent
Birmingham Airport handled 1,487,899 passengers in July, an increase of 2.1 percent compared with July 2025 and 9.8 percent above pre-pandemic levels. The rolling annual total reached 13,801,491 passengers, an increase of 3 percent compared with the 12 months to July 2025. Passenger numbers for the first six months of 2026 totalled 6,371,547, an increase of 1.7 percent year on year.
Lufthansa City Airlines to Take Delivery of First Airbus A220 in November
Lufthansa City Airlines is scheduled to take delivery of its first Airbus A220-300 in November 2026. Aircraft MSN 55501, registered D-ACAA, is currently at the final assembly line in Mirabel. The airline has 40 A220-300s on order and will become the first German airline to operate the type in scheduled service. Lufthansa City Airlines is replacing Lufthansa CityLine as a capacity provider.
