Aer Lingus Maximises A321neo Long-Haul Fleet Utilisation

Aer Lingus is maximising utilisation of its Airbus A321neo long-haul fleet this summer by deploying its 184-seat, two-class Airbus A321LR and Airbus A321XLR aircraft on selected European services from Dublin between North American rotations. The strategy supports aircraft productivity while adding capacity on intra-European routes, replacing Airbus A320ceo and A320neo aircraft on selected services. Scheduled A321LR/XLR services include Amsterdam, Brussels, London Heathrow, Munich and Paris Charles de Gaulle, alongside flights to Bordeaux and Oslo.

 

Airline Flight Academy Celebrates Major Milestone

Dublin-based Airline Flight Academy has announced a major milestone in its partnership with Ryanair, having trained more than 1,000 Ryanair Future Flyer Academy cadets in just five years. AFA Commercial Manager Kilian Hanratty said the achievement was made possible by expert instructors, strong training standards and close partnerships. He added that AFA remains central to Ryanair’s expansion as pilot demand continues to grow, supported by the airline’s fleet of more than 600 aircraft in service and 300 more on the way.

 

FLY4 Airlines Launches Operations From Belfast International

FLY4 Airlines has expanded its operational footprint with the launch of its first services from Belfast International Airport, marking its first base on the island of Ireland. Boeing 737-8K5 EI-FFC, c/n 37251, positioned from Istanbul to Belfast International on 4 May using callsign FFA886P. The inaugural flights departed Belfast International on 8 May, operating on behalf of TUI to Reus as TOM1508/9 and Corfu as TOM1526/7.

Emirates Recycles and Reuses 88,000 Kilograms of Plastic From Inflight Dining

Emirates has highlighted the impact of its closed-loop recycling programme, launched in June 2023, to mark World Environment Day. Over the past year, the airline has repurposed more than 88,000 kilograms of plastic from Economy Class inflight meal service items. The recycled material has been transformed into new products for use onboard.

 

Etihad and DCT Abu Dhabi Launch Complimentary Medical Travel Insurance

Etihad Airways and the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi have launched complimentary medical travel insurance for international visitors flying to or through Abu Dhabi on Etihad-operated flights. The cover is provided automatically for up to 15 days, with no application required. The initiative is being delivered with The National Insurance Company – Daman and is designed to support travel demand to Abu Dhabi.

 

IATA and ICAO Deepen Cooperation on Sustainable Aviation Fuels

IATA and ICAO have announced enhanced cooperation to support transparency and integrity in tracking progress on sustainable aviation fuels. Announced at ICAO Aviation Climate Week, the collaboration aims to accelerate the development and deployment of SAF. The initiative will focus on robust systems, high-quality data and credible tracking of cleaner aviation energies as part of wider net-zero carbon emissions ambitions by 2050.

 

Iberia Celebrates 80 Years Connecting Madrid and London

Iberia is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its Madrid-London route, one of the airline’s key European services. The route was launched in 1946 with two weekly frequencies operated by DC-3 aircraft from Croydon Airport, making London Iberia’s second international destination after Lisbon. Today, Iberia, Iberia Express and British Airways operate more than 20 daily flights between Madrid and London.

 

Jet2 Praises Greece for Suspending EES Checks

Jet2 has praised the Greek authorities for suspending biometric checks for UK holidaymakers travelling to Greece under the EU’s new Entry/Exit System. The airline said Greece had worked with the industry and put customers first ahead of the busy summer period. Jet2 also urged other authorities across its network to consider suspending EES checks until processes and systems are ready.

 

JetZero Breaks Ground on First Aircraft Factory in North Carolina

JetZero has broken ground on its first manufacturing and final assembly campus in Greensboro, North Carolina. The 8 million square foot factory will be built on more than 600 acres and will support production of JetZero’s next-generation aircraft. The project is backed by the largest ever state-level incentive package for any startup and is expected to create 14,500 jobs over the next 10 years.

 

KLM Names First Airbus A350 The Night Watch

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that its first Airbus A350 will be named The Night Watch, after Rembrandt’s famous painting. The airline expects to receive its first A350 at the end of August 2026, with the aircraft currently undergoing final preparations in Toulouse. It is scheduled to enter commercial service in September, with Toronto selected as its inaugural destination.

 

K-Mile Introduces Boeing 767F Service to Abu Dhabi

K-Mile Asia, the Thailand-based subsidiary of ASL Aviation Holdings, has launched Boeing 767 freighter service to the Middle East with a new route to Abu Dhabi. The carrier’s first flights to Abu Dhabi began on 3 May using a 2002-vintage Boeing 767-300BCF. The service operated from Kuala Lumpur via Shenzhen and Chiang Mai.

Lars Wingefors AB has consolidated its aviation-related operations into the newly formed group W. Aviation AB. Azorra has delivered the first of two ATR 72-600 aircraft to Loganair, marking a new customer relationship and further strengthening Azorra’s footprint across the UK and Europe. The twin-engine turboprop aircraft will support Loganair’s regional network and improve connectivity for underserved communities across the UK. Azorra CEO John Evans said the ATR 72-600 provides the efficiency and flexibility required to support Loganair’s operations.

 

IATA and Ryanair Criticise EU261 Passenger Rights Reforms

IATA and Ryanair have criticised the EU’s reformed EU261 passenger rights framework, describing the changes as a missed opportunity and bureaucratic. The EU confirmed the restructuring after 13 years of negotiations and delays. Irish Air Corps Operations Discussed in Dáil Éireann

Irish Air Corps operations were discussed in Dáil Éireann on 14 May 2026 following a question from Deputy Ken O’Flynn to the Minister for Defence. The Minister said military and State aircraft operating in support of An Garda Síochána are exempt from civil aviation obligations governed by the Irish Aviation Authority and bodies such as EASA. The operation, certification and oversight of Garda Air Support Unit aircraft are governed by military frameworks and a cross-departmental Service Level Agreement.

 

Irish Aviation Industry Awards 2026 Open for Entries

Entries are now open for the Aviation Industry Awards 2026, with the submission deadline set for 21 August. Launched in 2014, the awards recognise excellence, best practice and innovation across Ireland’s aviation sector, including airlines, airports, maintenance, safety, leasing and workforce development. Finalists will be announced on 2 October, with the awards gala taking place on 3 December 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin Airport.

Queen’s University Belfast has marked 85 years of the former Queen’s University Air Squadron. The commemorative event featured a replica Second World War Spitfire flown by former Queen’s students alongside a Bulldog training aircraft. The squadron was established in 1941 after heavy aircrew losses during the Battle of Britain, when a university aviation training programme was extended to Queen’s students.

 

MetroLink Works at Dublin Airport Discussed in Dáil Éireann

MetroLink works linked to Dublin Airport were discussed in Dáil Éireann on 9 June 2026. The Minister for Transport said MetroLink is moving into the procurement stage following Government funding commitment and statutory planning approval. Transport Infrastructure Ireland, on behalf of MetroLink and in partnership with daa and the National Transport Authority, has launched a procurement package to deliver MetroLink works at Dublin Airport, including the construction of the Dublin Airport station box.

 

Ryanair to Launch Warsaw Modlin-Zagreb Route

Ryanair will introduce a new route between Warsaw Modlin and Zagreb during the upcoming winter season. The low-cost carrier will launch two weekly flights on 26 October. The service will face no direct competition, although LOT Polish Airlines operates between Warsaw Chopin Airport and Zagreb.
